Cable chain installation Step 2

2. Reach around to the back of the tire and fasten the rear side cable by running the end with the metal stops through the eye of the hook on the opposite end.

Cable chain installation Step 3

3. Run any excess side cable through the metal clip.

Cable chain installation Step 4

4. Repeat this process on the front side of the tire.

Cable chain installation Step 5

5. Drive forward 1 car length, then check the chain and hand tighten it again if needed.

You can use rubber or chain adjusters (sold separately) to increase the tension on the chains for a tighter fit.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

For those with an F-250 with 20” wheels, you know the pain of figuring out what you can and cannot do, according to Ford’s owners manual, for chains/cables. If you live in a state that requires carrying chains (traction devices), figuring out what will work with the 250/350’s can be confusing. I knew I needed cables for the 20”s but couldn’t find the right ones that fit a 275/65r20, so after a few minutes online, I called the 800 number. Great response, very helpful, knew exactly what I needed and was even able to recommend the tensioners I needed. I was able to order them online within 5 minutes. The shipping on etrailers part was exceptional, not so much for UPS, but they still got to me in a very reasonable time. Overall, I’m super pleased with my etrailer online and on phone experience! You’re probably wondering about the cables I bought? I dunno, they look great, and the bag they came in was a plus, as it fits under the back seats no problem. The F-250 Fx4 really does not need cables, even with the stock Michelin’s ATX, took it up into the mountains with 2-3” new snow and more falling all day and didn’t experience any issues. But I gotta have them legally, so these are the ones I got and I think they’ll do very well if I ever get stuck.

I just received my latest order for snow cables for my new truck. I've been ordering tire chains and cables from etrailer for the past 15 years. They have great service and they always have equipment in stock. Shopping is easy and if I need additional information I just call one of the representatives for help.

Review from a similar Ladder Cable in Tire Chains

Purchased Titan Tire Chains for Wide Base Tires - Ladder Pattern - Square Link part TC3229S for a 2018 Ram 2500 with OEM 275/70/R18 tires. These are great chains and very heavy-duty for wide base tires. I mounted them on the rear axle of the Ram and discovered the chain in close proximity to the P-Brake cable, too close for my comfort. I believe the wide base chains are too wide for these OEM tires and fit was pretty loose. One could gain more clearance near the E-Brake by attaching the inside hook to the end (last) link. Then using a chain a tightener do your best to take up all the outside slack. I just was not comfortable with the overall fit so I send these chains back. Very painless return made easy by etrailer because they emailed a return UPS label. After reviewing tech info and reviews I purchased Titan Alloy Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link part TC2533 for the 2018 Ram 2500. These are regular duty and a better fit. These chains offer a lot more clearance for the P-Brake cable. They are a cleaver design, have great carrying case and are fairly quick to install. I have not purchased winter tires for this vehicle so the Ram need chains to pull a travel trailer up and down our snow-covered road.

Review from a similar Ladder Cable in Tire Chains

Titan Chain Cables are great quality and so easy to use. We were able to intuitively put them on and take off quickly. Etrailer has the best prices I've seen after researching. Also, they have the BEST customer service, specifically Jane S. & Tammie P. I was not familiar with cables and our Subaru had specific clearance requirements. They made sure I received the correct type, fit and clearance for my car. We highly recommend!

Did the job and got me to the mountains! Here’s a pic from Sequoia National Park. Would definitely use with the bungee cord type tire chain adjusters to help keep the chains tight.

I won't be able to test the quality of the tire chains until winter. That is, however, if we get any snow. The price was very good and the order process and tracking system were one of the best I've ever used. Good job, E-Trailer! Doug at Anderson Island, Washington

Review from a similar Ladder Cable in Tire Chains

Bought the Glacier v-bar chains for the rear tires in extreme conditions and the Titan cable chains for lighter duty, also to be installed on the rear tires. Videos show that the cable-chains can be installed on the front tires of a 2020 or greater Toyota Tacoma, though not recommended by the owner’s manual. These cables are S-class compatible so they should work on the front tires, however caution should be taken as appropriate. I would recommend only installing on the front tires after the v-bar chains have been installed on the rear tires and extra traction is deemed worthy. Both the Glacier and Titan multi-arm adjusters were ordered in support of the chains. Parts arrived as ordered in a timely fashion. Have not installed or used these products at the time of review.

I was moving across country through the mountains and saw there was going to be a lot of snow when I started the trip in 10 days. Nobody in Southern California carried the chains I needed. The etrailer tire chains were priced right, arrived quickly and fit perfectly.

I purchased a set of tire snow chains for a 2014 Hyundai Sante Fe Sport AWD. The price was reasonable and I received them in a reasonable time period. The quality of the chains were great, and they came with their own carry case. I did add additional / optional rubber support tensioning straps. These items will stay with this vehicle for as long as I own it. Thank you, Rich Rossi

Review from a similar Ladder Cable in Tire Chains

I've used the cable snow chains with steel rollers in Colorado when the DOT announced chain laws over the radio. It does its job of keeping the vehicle on the road and it's easy to put on the wheels. Great for emergency use if caught in ice or snow. I keep two pairs of chains in the car just in case we run into increment weather. As to the different brands, I'll have to see which one lasts longer when they are used. Etrailer is a great place to shop.

Review from a similar Ladder Cable in Tire Chains

Ordered this set of tire chains (Titan TC2019) from etrailer because I have previously had good dealings with the company, and have seen them sell good quality products. Also, I was able to determine precisely, from their website, the kind of chains that would be best, and that would fit my tires (not always easy on other websites). These tires are on a 2019 RAV4 with 225-60-18 tires (a bit unusual size). Fitment: The cross-chains are just right for 225 and slightly wider tires. However, the edge cables (around the tire circumference) are right at being too long, but tighteners should take up the slack that develops (and extra length makes them easier to install). Higher profile 225-70-18 winter tread tires would fit perfectly, I think. Quality: The chains themselves appear to be sturdily constructed--cable "chains," for light weight use on SUVs (not for heavily loaded pickups or trailer towing). The cross-link connectors are well-designed, and appear to be heavy enough. The chain installation fasteners are good--work easily and look to be quite secure. Usage: They are cables, not chains; very adequate for light snow, or plowed and sanded surfaces, and, being cables, they are easily stowed. As cables, although they'll work in deep snow, yet true chains will work much better. These will be adequate on hard ice (drive carefully!), but there are better choices for ice. But as cables, they don't require much clearance room to function--plenty of room on the RAV4. They attach firmly, and appear to be easy to install with freezing fingers (if that can be said of any tire chain!). They have the right sort of pieces and layers over the cross-tie cables to provide traction, long life and stay secure. I'll see how they work when I hit the snow--to see if they hold up as well as previous similar traction devices I have used. Down side: The bag they come in has *flimsy* zippers. Compress the cables well before you try to close the bag on them! I had to cross bungee them to get them into the bag, and then again after they were in the bag. (Why did they fit in the bag so well when they were packed in China???) Summary: I have only fitted them on the tire to verify correct choice. I have used this kind of "chains" (cables) in the past and found them to be perfectly adequate for traction and long life. These look like a good purchase for my use.

I have purchased few types of tire chains over many years, some were for looks others were for function, others were for "dong the job" My latest set purchased from ETRAILER.COM were the best, basically ease of mounting and drivability is better then other more expensive types.

Review from a similar Ladder Cable in Tire Chains

Needed lightweight cable chains for wife's Q5. Since I knew the chains were essentially only for looks (AWD with M/S tires, Audi doesn't recommend chain use and would likely never be used (but CHP and NHP require you carry when chain control), I aslo didn't want to spend $ 250+. Q5 has 20' rims so selection at usual inexpensive places scarce to say least. etrailer had right size, right style, right price and delivered with low cost shipping within 3 business days to my door. What is not to like. Second time buying chains from etrailer (2018 F150 4X) and they make the process a breeze. Highly recommended.
