Pop & Lock Locking tailgate Handle works "just ok" after a year. Sometimes it does not unlock, especially in dusty conditions. The lock seems to jam and I have had to dismantle part of the tailgate to open it. The materials for this product are just ok. The handle is plastic (but it has held up for a year) the linkage internally seems to be an issue with the opening and locking mechanism. In general I would say it's a poorly made average product.
It looks nice and should function well as long as you don't have to use it regularly and keep it clean.
Works exactly as I had hoped and installation was straight-forward.. especially when using the E-Trailer video. We have a shell on the Tacoma. It locks...and with the Pop & Lock we can now also lock the tailgate providing a more secure storage area for items stored in the bed of the truck. Highly recommend this item. The only negative is that the Toyota OEM tailgate handle seems a bit more robust than the one on the Pop & Lock.
Item seems well built, fits in place of the original, and functions really well. Back up camera transfers over to the new locking latch. It is nice to be able to lock the tailgate. The only negative I have is with the functioning of the locking mechanism and key. Once the lock is closed, the key does not always unlock it with a single turn. Sometimes a lot of back and forth turning of the key is required to achieve the unlock position with the key. There is no definite detent or click to let you know when you lock or unlock the latch. There seems to be a little to much play in the lock portion.

I've had this tailgate lock for nearly a year. The tailgate lock was easy to install, and appeared to be of acceptable quality manufacture. I'm treating the lock and lever assembly carefully as it appears and feels like it wouldn't take hard lifting without failing. Although nothing has failed to this point, I don't think it would take hard use.
I ordered the tailgate lock, with a knock for the backup camera which I already had, for my 2012 Tacoma in the late evening and could hardly believe when I received a call mid morning the next day saying that the lock was shipped and I would receive it before the end of tomorrow. Well, it arrived mid afternoon the next day! I did pay for next day service because I was traveling on the road and needed it before I moved on with scheduled reservations. But I have to say that etrailer.com did their part very well in getting the part out extremely fast. They also sent an email out to confirm the shipping
After reading the very clear and precise instructions, rounding up a couple of tools, the installation took only about 15 minutes, max 20 minutes. The lock assembly looks and works just great. It looks like it came like that from the factory.
I would not hesitate to use etrailer.com for any product in the future.

This tailgate handle works fine enough, but the plastic is thin and feels fragile/sharp around the edges, and not like the original factory handle. I wish it felt like a better-quality product.

The plastic has held up, but still feels and looks cheap and Im afraid the key is going to break every time I use the lock.

My tail gate lock has worked perfectly over the past year. I can now store tools and parts with with reasonable expectation of security.
My only regret is not knowing that the tail gate lock was available with a backup camera.
Installing my Pop & Lock tailgate handle was easy and quick, especially with the help of the instructional videos on the etrailer.com website. I can now lock my tailgate without fear that it will be stolen. I'm definitely a happy camper. My only regret is that I should have installed a backup camera at the same time. That'll be my next project.
Product quality appears excellent. Installation was a breeze. “How to” vid from mfr was very helpful. I sprayed WD40 on the plastic clips to make removal and reinstallation of the rods a bit easier. Don’t use tools to remove clips from rod, they may break and snap off. Use fingers and combo of force and finesse!

Excellent product! I just installed it today in about 30 minutes. I am just your average DIYer and this installation was as easy as it appeared in the install video, with no surprises whatsoever. It looks like a factory installed product, works great, and gives me the piece of mind I was looking for. I installed the Pop N Lock on a 2015 Toyota Tacoma with a back up camera. I highly recommend this product for anyone looking to lock their tailgate. Thanks to the manufacturer for providing a solution to an issue for which Toyota has not.

We have used this just about everyday. This has given us extra storage area that is secure. I wish I would of done this years ago. Worth every penny and will definitely do it again whenif we purchase another truck without locking tailgates.
The locking handle has performed very well over the last year. It still looks great but I keep my truck in a garage a lot of the time. It was easy to install and has increased the utility of my truck bed and tonneau cover because it locks now.
Easy to install, matches the original - I would have bought a more rugged metal replacement latch if I had known you had one available.
I found that reviewing videos of the installation process helped. The installation was easy and the product met my expectations of quality construct and fit.
Received the tailgate latch last night for my 2015 Toyota Tacoma. Was exactly what I ordered. Installed it this morning and went in very easy, no problems at all. Thank you so much.

After the 2nd year of having the device installed, the item has not held up in the SW climate. The black finish has long since turned a dull grey, even with routine application of restoration product. The renewed black only lasts several days. The locking mechanism has a nice rollover when locking the device, but when unlocking, the key simply rolls to the unlock position with no resistance. That has me concerned that it could unlock on its own. That hasnt occurred yet, however. It would be beneficial to see higher quality material used.
