I do have a solution for you, however the Pop & Lock Custom Locking Tailgate Handle # PAL5500 referenced in your question is designed for the 2005-2015 Tacoma and is not compatible with your 2002 model.
For your 2002 Toyota Tacoma, you will instead want the Pop & Lock Custom Tailgate Lock # PAL5100. This is confirmed to fit your truck and will install under the OEM tailgate handle. This system features a simple installation without drilling and includes 2 keys, the lock mechanism and all the necessary hardware.
