Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the Pop & Lock locking tailgate handles. This is going to replace your existing handle. This is a fit for the 2005 through 2015 Toyota Tacoma. If you have that vehicle, this is going to be able to replace that lock without any issues. Even if you do have a backup camera installed on your Tacoma, this is still going to accomodate for that.
It's going to have this little panel here that you can pop out and then be able to see what's going on behind you.Let's take a little closer look at it. It's just going to be a manual lock, so it's going to come with the two keys to operate that lock. Put our key in here, we can open that up. Then, even when this is locked, the handle will still move. But, as you can see at the back, this large kidney bean shaped piece, whenever it's unlocked, that will open up so that'll pull the two rods that go to connect to the latch mechanism on your tailgate.
So when it's unlocked, that moves. If we lock it back up, now our handle will move but that kidney bean doesn't move. It's not going to pull those rods and thereby the tailgate will not be operable. Any would-be thieves are just going to have that handle to pull but nothing's going to happen.Now this is going to be the Barcelona Red color. If you have a metallic red for your Toyota Tacoma, this is going to be a color match for that.
There are other colors available. I'm going to put those up on the screen there. A lot of different colors, as you can see. You just want to grab the one that's going to match most closely with your vehicle. There's a lot of different options there.But the nice thing about this is that it's really easy to install.
There's no cutting or drilling required with this, no welding or anything like that. Just simply bolts in using the existing hardware from your tailgate. It does come with a set of instructions with some pictures to help make it clear how all that's supposed to go. No wiring with this either since it is just a manual lock.Now these are available with a bolt lock where it's going to key alike to your ignition key. They're also available with a powered option. Those are going to be some different part numbers. You can find those here at etrailer.com. Still going to fit that same range for the Toyota Tacoma. If you're interested in getting something with a powered lock, you can do that even if you don't have powered locks in your Toyota already.All in all, I think this is going to be a really easy to use system. It looks really nice. Again, it does accomodate for that camera at the bottom there. That's that little panel that bumps out. You can pop that out as needed and still be able to utilize your backup camera. It doesn't really cost you any functionality. It's just going to add a little bit more security to that tailgate. Especially if you have a camper shell or a tonneau cover, it's going to make sure that all those items inside your truck bed are going to stay secure. Excellent product! I just installed it today in about 30 minutes. I am just your average DIYer and this installation was as easy as it appeared in the install video, with no surprises whatsoever. It looks like a factory installed product, works great, and gives me the piece of mind I was looking for. I installed the Pop N Lock on a 2015 Toyota Tacoma with a back up camera. I highly recommend this product for anyone looking to lock their tailgate. Thanks to the manufacturer for providing a solution to an issue for which Toyota has not.
Installing my Pop & Lock tailgate handle was easy and quick, especially with the help of the instructional videos on the etrailer.com website. I can now lock my tailgate without fear that it will be stolen. I'm definitely a happy camper. My only regret is that I should have installed a backup camera at the same time. That'll be my next project.
Product quality appears excellent. Installation was a breeze. “How to” vid from mfr was very helpful. I sprayed WD40 on the plastic clips to make removal and reinstallation of the rods a bit easier. Don’t use tools to remove clips from rod, they may break and snap off. Use fingers and combo of force and finesse!

Rear tailgate Pop & Lock with code able lock was easy to install and operates as designed.
Installed the latch in less than 10 minutes. It looks great on my 2015 Tacoma. Very happy with my purchase. The best feature is that I can use my truck key and not carry around one extra key just for the lock.
It appears to be made of good quality materials installed easy works well. I guess the only downfall of it is that I wish that the ignition key to the actual truck would also work to unlock the tailgate. I don't want to have to have two keys, but that's OK. It still works as advertised.
Easy install took 45 minutes outside in 32° weather.

Quick and easy install, the installation video really helped.
Everything works great, giving me a locking bed for my truck. The only thing preventing me from giving a five start rating is the feel of the lock when keyed to lock. My key must be turned al the way to the stop before the lock locks. I am worried that it will fail to lock in the future.
The locking handle has performed very well over the last year. It still looks great but I keep my truck in a garage a lot of the time. It was easy to install and has increased the utility of my truck bed and tonneau cover because it locks now.
So far, so good. It has only been installed for a short period of time, but the fact that it can use my ignition key, and allows for the backup camera really makes this feel almost like OEM.
Easy to install, matches the original - I would have bought a more rugged metal replacement latch if I had known you had one available.
My original Pop & Lock faded a bit after 4 years, so I replaced it with a brand new one. I had added a bed cover and needed to secure the tailgate.
The original worked without issue for 4 years.
I found that reviewing videos of the installation process helped. The installation was easy and the product met my expectations of quality construct and fit.
This replacement tailgate handle is fantastic. Exact fit and very easy installation and it works great. It’s awesome that it can be keyed to your vehicle key.
Really easy install by following step-by-step video, took about 20 minutes. Keying the lock to match my ignition key was simple,and so far it's working great. I read a few reviews that said the tailgate has to be in locked position in order to remove key, I did not find that to be the case, my key comes out regardless of whether it's locked or unlocked. Great product, highly recommend.
2014 Tacoma. This was a piece of cake to install. The biggest problem was finding the proper torx wrench for the tailgate cover remove - fortunately they were not very tight. The factory backup camera re-installed into new handle just fine after removing knockout plug. The two metal arms installed easily. The re-keying to fit my ignition was painless. I'm impressed. Handle is not as sturdy feeling as original OEM handle but is adequate. Not only is the handle smaller (which is expected) but the plastic feels thinner to me. Overall I'm very happy with this lock so far.
