Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Pop & Lock custom manual custom tailgate lock with the handle in the black sand pearl finish. Now, this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2005 to 2015 Toyota Tacoma trucks. And on a custom fit part like this, I do like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show if this will work for your application. Now, this is gonna replace your existing factory tailgate handle with this ABS plastic tailgate handle that has the built-in lock.
This will work on trucks with or without a backup camera. You can see right here there's a little punch out. If you have a camera, you just punch that out and put the camera in there. And if you don't, you just leave it as is. And as I mentioned, it is customized for your vehicle.
The ABS plastic locking handle replaces your OEM tailgate handle. This is a keyed tailgate lock. This will discourage theft of your cargo and your tailgate. This will create a nice secure storage for valuables when used with a cover or a truck bed cap. Does include the lock mechanism itself, the two keys, and all the necessary hardware for installation.
And just the way it operates, right now you'll be able to see if you pull up on the handle, you can see how it'll open or close. And then when you lock it, put the key in there and you turn it that way to lock it. You can see the handle will still operate, but if you notice on the back, it's not moving the lock. So even though the handle will still move, it's not opening it. And then if you just turn this back, take your key out, now you can see when you operate the handle, you're opening and closing it.
Does use a tough armored steel lock mechanism to resist tampering. Gives you better theft protection than a tailgate lock with a plastic housing. We mentioned the finish on it. If you look closely, it's a black sand pearl finish, so this will match your truck's trim. And it is a raised lock for quick key access. Very simple installation. The product still performs as it did on day one. I’ve had no issues, I haven’t needed to make any adjustments, it has been solid and performed well. It was a great decision a year ago.

My only complaint is that it is difficult to unlock. I have even had to use pliers to increase the grip on the key.

I have had to remove the lock assembly and reinforce it with nylon wire ties to keep it working. It is DEFINITELY NOT as good as the OEM !

After year, still working fine! On trips, it is nice to have the tailgate locked so anything in the bed is out of sight. Combined with a bed cover all is secure.
