Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

  • What is Karrier Kenda Tire ST205/75R14 Warranty
Hey Carmen, for the Kenda tire part # KE28KV the warranty is: Kenda's warranty states that the 1-year warranty is for the tire only as opposed to the wheel, and the warranty is through Kenda tires. For the first twelve months from the date of sale, Kenda will replace your Kenda/Loadstar tire for any reason as part of our Worry-Free Warranty. Afterwards for a period of 5 years they state that if the tire fails due to "defective materials or workmanship" it will be replaced. So long as the...

  • Replacement 14" Tire for 2014 Starcraft Comet
Hey Kelly! It looks like our information shows your tire size is 205/75R14. However, I would double check the tire size on the side of your existing tires to see if that matches. Are you looking for just a tire or a wheel and tire combo? Assuming you have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern the Kenda Karrier KR53 ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire with 14" Black Mod Wheel # KE75EV would be a great replacement. If you just need the tire you can use the # KE28KV. I wouldn't get too caught up in the differences...

  • I Want to Upgrade my Tires From a 201/75-14 with Load Range C to a Load Range D, What are my Options
Hello Christopher. If you are looking to upgrade your tires I would go with the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # KE28KV, these are going to be 5mm wider than the 201/75-14, they are a load range D so they can handle 2,200 lbs at 75 psi, and have a speed rating of M which is 81 MPH. There are 2 downfalls on using tires that are rated way higher than what you need. It can cause a harsh ride quality, with the weight not holding them down can cause the trailer to...

  • Difference Between Kenda 205/75R 14 Trailer Tires
Hey Dave, I wasn't able to find any wheels listed at $163, but I was able to find the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire with 14" White Wheel # AM32153 and the Loadstar ST205/75D14 Bias Trailer Tire with 14" Black Wheel # AM3S451 which are similarly priced. The reason these wheels are listed higher than the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # KE28KV is because these tires include both the tire and wheel, and the Karrier # KE28KV is just the tire. These wheels/tires also have...

  • Comparing Load Range C And D Tires For A 2012 Lance 2185 Travel Trailer
Hey Eric, It's pretty normal to go up a load range if you're feeling like the trailer is being overloaded since tire wear and capacity go hand in hand. It's ok to have some extra capacity when it comes to the wheels, however, going with something too high of a capacity won't allow for enough compression of the tires and can cause uneven wear and handling issues. The GVWR of your trailer is 6,000lbs and a load range D tire would give you roughly 2,200lbs of capacity, which multiplied...

  • Where Are Kenda Tires Manufactured
Hey Lee, Kenda tires like the # KE28KV are made in factories in either Taiwan, China, Vietnam, or Indonesia. There are markings on each tire indicating which facility they were manufactured at but to read the coding you would need to reach out to Kenda. 99% of the tires made today are made overseas because the quality has vastly improved over the years. On top of that manufacturing tires isn't the friendliest for the environment so the government has plenty of rules and laws that drive...

  • Availability of Trailer Tire 205/75-14 in Load Range D
Hey Rich, you are correct we only have three options for the ST205/75-14 in a Load Range D. We have the part # KE28KV, the part # AM10235, and the part # 274-000012. The # AM10235 has the better tread pattern and higher weight capacity so it's what I would go with.

  • Will 15" Wheels and Tires Fit Escape 17B Travel Trailer After Adding Lift Kit
Hello again Michael; is there a reason you want to add larger wheels and tries? The loss of clearance from switching to the # AM22627 will depend on your current tire size and the size you switch to. An ST205/75R14 like # KE28KV has a section width of 7.9" and an outer diameter of 26.3". If you used a tire like the ST205/75R15 # KE33KV you would lose nothing on the inside and 0.5" on top. If you used an ST225/75R15 like # KE63KV you would lose 0.35" on the inside and 1.10" on top. I'm...

  • 2021 Keystone Hideout 177rd Replacement Trailer Tires
Hey Malte, the Karrier trailer tire part # KE28KV that you referenced is your best option. This has a 2,200 lb weight capacity like you need (it's highest rated option we carry), has a great tread pattern, warranty, and a higher speed rating at 81 mph. What tires do you have now?
