Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Been guiding for 25 years and these are the best tires i have ever ran on my boat trailers. I have had no issues and Oklahoma can burn tires quick! 605444

Received the tires and they are fine tires. My issue is with the buying experience with etrailer. 2 things that did not go so well: 1. The day after I bought the tires, etrailer dropped the price by over $7/tire. So etrailer has this "Lowest Price Pledge" policy (there is a link right on the page for this tire) of a lowest price pledge and if you find a lower price in 30 days, they will refund 110% of the difference. When I called etrailer, they would only refund the price difference and NOT 110% of the price difference. Why? They said that the 110% price pledge does not apply to their own site? Huh? No where on the price pledge does it say that etrailer is exempt from their own price pledge of refunding a 110% of the difference if you find a lower price. Not Happy. If you make a pledge, stick to it. 2. Got the tires and I live near Redding, CA. Went into town and could not find any one who would install the tires on my trailer. The basic message I got was we do not want to install someone else's tires. After 2 hours of calling and driving to the tire shops in Redding, I finally found a reputable outfit to install and spin balance the tires for $22/tire which pretty much negates any savings from buying them online. Based on this overall negative experience, this is probably the last time I will ever buy tires online again and my issue with etrailer's own lowest price pledge left a bad taste in my mouth from an outfit I usually have had a really good relationship with. I have bought quite a bit from etrailer and I expected better customer service than what I got. 407919

Received them well before expected, given free delivery. Just had them mounted on my X-lite. This was an upgrade from the load rate C. The real test will be to see if they make it all the way to Alaska from Maine. Get back to me in September of 2015. So far I am happy with the product and e-trailer. 184959

They performed very well. 14000 miles over some very marginal conditions. Including the top of the World highway in Yukon territory. Highly recommended.

Tires arrived in good condition in three days, individually boxed. Had them mounted today on my Lance travel trailer and they look great, much better than the Tow-Max tires they are replacing. Only minor surprise was that the DOT date code on the tires indicates the tires were manufactured around mid 2017. Nevertheless, they look great and I am confident my BAD experiences (three) with "Blow-Max" brand tires are over. Concerning etrailer, this is one of many purchases I've made over the past 10 years and I have always been impressed with the EXCELLENT customer service, product information and instructive videos, communications, pricing, and product selection. IMHO etrailer is one of the best retailers on the web and I highly recommend them to all. 653723

Tires continue to perform well, NO FLATS OR BLOW.OUTS. Tites hold pressure extremely well, rarely do I need to add air between trips. I use TireMinders to monitor the tire while on the road, I am very satisfied with them as well.

On Sunday July 12, 2020, I ordered 4 Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tires - Load Range D. It was 6:29am, and by 11:49am, I received an e-mail stating my tires were shipped. I received them two days later on Tuesday the 14th. Now that’s what I call very fast service. The next day I took them out to my campground and used a manual tire changer to dismount the old ones and mounted the new ones. These new tires replaced the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C. My original tires had about 20,000 to 22,000 miles on them and were 7 years old. I noticed that after a short trip, the tread of one of the original tires wasn’t flat with the road anymore, but was round from sidewall to sidewall like a motorcycle tire. I think a belt may have broken in it. The tires were replaced on a 2013 Rockwood Mini Lite 2503S. While the new replacement tires might be overkill, it gives me a piece of mind for the long trips I have planned. I highly recommend etrailer for your travel trailer needs. 845300

When it comes to the tires that you've got, which are 205/75R14-Load Range D like the Kenda Karrier # AM10235, those are going to have a capacity of 2200-lbs each, for a total of 4400-lbs. If you want a good quality tire with a load capacity of 2,200 lbs at 75 psi and a speed rating of 81 mph, I recommend the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10235. • ST205/75-14 Trailer Tires for Summer Heat and Highway Speeds on a Boat Trailer
Karrier tire # AM10235 is a great option. This is a radial tire and radials run cooler than bias ply tires. This tire is rated for 81 miles per hour and 2,200 pounds at 75 psi. Many trailer tires are rated for 65 miles per hour unless otherwise stated on the tire so that could be the problem. Another issue is the amount of air pressure you have in the tires. Trailer tires should be inflated to the maximum psi indicated on the tire. This is because trailer tires are built with thick sidewalls...
