Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Just received the tires on July 16, 2021. Faster shipping than was quoted. (Happy there) The three tires I received are only 2 months old. Don't think they can get any newer than that. Was looking for GY endurance but could not find 2200lb rating for a 205 size tire. These are the same tires that came on the camper. Never had any issues with these yet. Will just keep them out of grass in the shade and pressures up. Should be fine. Will update in a year when etrailer reminds me. Great company. Just wish there was a walk in store near me. Would probably spend alot more money though.

This brake line kit (20TA-BLKIT) was easy to install and after 1 year on my tandem axle boat trailer, used in salt water, still looks brand new. No rust, corrosion or leaks and functions as it should. Much better than the steel lines I replaced. I would recommend this brake line kit.

Still working fine. No complaints.

Ordered 14 inch rims and tires for my 2007 Jayco travel trailer. Easy ordering, prompt delivery, easy to install, very satisfied with every aspect of etrailer!!!

Comments
Were your original rims 13 inch? I have 13 inch rims with ST18580D13 bias ply load range D tires on my Jayco Jayfeather Ultralite 228 trailer and am looking to switch to radials in load range D... These are about as close to the original tire size as I can find. If you did up-size from smaller rims and tires, how is it working out for you?

Comments
Ernest,Yes I had 13 18580D13s as standard equipment. Put on Hankook 195 75R14 8 ply load range D 2094 lbs at 65psi. Tires fit fine. There is hardly any difference in the width and height increased maybe 1 inch. I have taken the trailer on logging roads with pot holesbad washboard without any issues. With the 13 inch tires on i had 2 clearance on each side and about 7-8 from the top of tire to the wheel well Jayco will not give you any help and Dexter, axle manufacture, sent information but to check the clearances out required a lift which i did not have. Common sense dictated the 14 tires would work and they do. Hope this helps just check the side wall and top clearances.Hope this helpsclearances

Bought 2 of these tires in 2015, just bought another to replace one that had serious blowout at 60 mph after 16,000 miles. Fortunately no damage from the blowout. Very happy with the tires up until then and not sure of cause of the blowout. It was the tire on the passenger side so maybe picked up something on roadside, rumble strips or hitting a curb. I still like the higher air pressure and load capacity so that's why I got another one. I use these on a single axle light weight travel trailer. I'm including pics of damaged tire and comparison of new and used (~20,000 mi.) I think the wear rate is good for a trailer.

Tires arrived in good condition in three days, individually boxed. Had them mounted today on my Lance travel trailer and they look great, much better than the Tow-Max tires they are replacing. Only minor surprise was that the DOT date code on the tires indicates the tires were manufactured around mid 2017. Nevertheless, they look great and I am confident my BAD experiences (three) with "Blow-Max" brand tires are over. Concerning etrailer, this is one of many purchases I've made over the past 10 years and I have always been impressed with the EXCELLENT customer service, product information and instructive videos, communications, pricing, and product selection. IMHO etrailer is one of the best retailers on the web and I highly recommend them to all.

Comments
Tires continue to perform well, NO FLATS OR BLOW.OUTS. Tites hold pressure extremely well, rarely do I need to add air between trips. I use TireMinders to monitor the tire while on the road, I am very satisfied with them as well.

If you need anything, eTrailer is the place!!! I have ordered multiple items over the years and have always received excellent customer service, great products, and quick shipping. The most recent order was the Karrier "D" rated tire, which I have ordered 4 others of the same from eTrailer. This is one of the best trailer tires I have used in over 30 years of boating, and one of the few "D" rated 14" tires that meet my load requirements. These things ride amazing, no flat spots from sitting in the off-season, traction and wear is excellent. I don't see how you could get a better tire or at this price anywhere.

This process was great. The site had all the information I needed to find the right tire. I am planning on driving tons of miles with my boat. Old tires were not meant for long trips and barely enough to support weight of the boat. Easy to order. Packaged same day by an actual named person and arrived early! No backorder. Now I can go fishing. Thanks.

I have always had problems locating ST205/75R14 Load Range D tires locally for my camper. etrailer.com had them and made it easy. I have loaded the camper down and made several long trips. Every stop I monitor the tires for heat buildup. They run cool and I have not had any problems.

Comments
I have had the Kenda Karrier ST20575R14 tires on my camper for 1 year now. No problems with the tires and they seem to be wearing good. I load the camper down heavy and make 300 mile trips frequently. I will buy the next set of tires from etrailer.com if I ever need them.

I was searching for a Load Range D tire for my pop up trailer in a better than basic J speed rating (65 mph). The Loadstar Kenda Karrier is one of the few that fit the bill in a ST205/75R14 tire. The tire is M speed rated (81 mph) and is an 8 ply rated tire that is a lot tougher than stock trailer tires. They have a deep tread and great longevity. Etrailer is a great company to do business with. I am hooked on their great selection of quality products and amazing service. Buy from them with confidence!

Comments
We have driven over 12,000 miles on this tire since putting it on our Chalet 1935XL A-frame pop-up camper. The tires offer a very smooth ride, hold their balance well, and have shown only very slight wear over the 12,000 miles. No flats. No problems. No unusual loss of air pressure. Just a very good, dependable, and long wearing tire for our camper. Based on our real-world use, I highly recommend the Kenda Carrier tire. Its been a good value and offers peace of mind every time we hook it up!

On Sunday July 12, 2020, I ordered 4 Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tires - Load Range D. It was 6:29am, and by 11:49am, I received an e-mail stating my tires were shipped. I received them two days later on Tuesday the 14th. Now that’s what I call very fast service. The next day I took them out to my campground and used a manual tire changer to dismount the old ones and mounted the new ones. These new tires replaced the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C. My original tires had about 20,000 to 22,000 miles on them and were 7 years old. I noticed that after a short trip, the tread of one of the original tires wasn’t flat with the road anymore, but was round from sidewall to sidewall like a motorcycle tire. I think a belt may have broken in it. The tires were replaced on a 2013 Rockwood Mini Lite 2503S. While the new replacement tires might be overkill, it gives me a piece of mind for the long trips I have planned. I highly recommend etrailer for your travel trailer needs.

These will be my 3rd set of tires on our trailer and the first ones with load range D. I like the idea of a little extra security with the higher speed rating. They will be installed this week and I can further evaluate them after some miles. The 5 star so far is for the great folks at E-trailer who make ordering simple and got my carefully boxed tires here right on time and with great email communications. They promised fresh tires and these were produced less than 6 months ago. Perfect!

Received my tires from etrailer quickly and hassle-free! This my third purchase from them and they are certainly a vendor of preference! I bought these tires as replacements for my 2011 Kodiak travel trailer. Even though I haven't used them yet, they far exceed the OEM tires. 8 ply, heavier weight capacity and a higher speed rating, looks like a win, win to me. The reviews on these tires really helped in my selection. Thanks again etrailer!

I will be traveling next week and will have much more confidence in the tires on my camper. These appear to be great tires at a great price! etrailer.com was EXCELLENT to order from - tires arrived as promised, in great condition and they even promptly honored their price match policy when I found abetter price elsewhere.

We just returned from a trip to the Florida Keys. Also traveled to northwest Kentucky, Smoky Mountains NP and a state park near Columbus Ga last October. We have camped several placed locally as well. The tires performed well for each of these trips - with no problems at all. I keep the tires covered when parked to avoid any sun exposure issues. Very pleased with the tires and overall purchase. I will likely order another tire for the spare in the near future.

Good Tire from a great company. This is the only Load Range D tire I could find in a 14" rim size but this tire has been an excellent purchase. I could not be happier with my purchase and my tire dealer was happy to mount them because they knew that they did not sell a load range D tire in a 14".

Tire was as ordered. Good service from etrailer. Tire was not delivered as scheduled because it was shipped to a local UPS warehouse where it remained for over a week with no contact from UPS. I had a great deal of difficulty tracking the shipment before I finally located it and had to go pick it up from the warehouse.

  • Are My Load Range D Tires Rated Sufficiently For My 2019 Coachmen Apex Nano
It looks like your 2019 Coachmen Apex Nano has a GVWR of 3800-lbs. When it comes to the tires that you've got, which are 205/75R14-Load Range D like the Kenda Karrier # AM10235, those are going to have a capacity of 2200-lbs each, for a total of 4400-lbs. As long as you're not overloading your trailer, you really don't need to be concerned with them being insufficient. According to your spec sticker, this trailer is only designed to carry an additional 800-lbs or so of cargo, so I would...

I would be happy to help, but unfortunately we do not have a breakdown of the specific tire size that will fit on your 2002 Coleman Fleetwood Fairlake Pop Up Camper. • Recommended Tires for Pop-Up Camper
The Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10235 would be an excellent radial tire for your camper. We also have the Loadstar ST205/75D14 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1ST86 which, like your original tires, is a diagonal bias tire. The bias ply tire has a slightly lower weight rating (1,760 lbs at 50 psi). The issue is that trailer tires are built with a thicker side wall to handle more vertical load. This thicker side wall also means that the tire can generate more heat. Higher speeds create even more heat. You will want to avoid doing anything that will increase the amount of heat the tire can potentially...
