Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

they are the worst tires i ever had. they are ballooned out in the center.they only ride on the center of the tire, no flat surface, looks like a donut. i am afraid to go to far with these tires.

by:

These tires are awful. They were trouble as soon as they arrived at my shop. Tires come compressed about completely flat and boxed up; I have ordered hundreds of tires over the years and have never seen tires shipped this way. This made it extremely difficult to get the tires mounted and beaded up on the rims. Upon airing up the tires they have a shape similar to a motorcycle tire which gives it a pretty small contact patch, even when fully loaded. On the first trip out, I noticed a vibration from the trailer; took off all four wheels and noticed one of the tires had a broken belt. They replaced that tire under warranty, which actually wasn’t a bad process. The trailer still doesn’t feel quite right with these tires, I had asked several times through the manufacturer that I wanted a different set of tires as I don’t trust these, they won’t do anything about it and told me everything I experienced was “normal”. It’s funny because I’m the past I purchased cheap trailer tires from Amazon and had really good luck with them, but was ordering a bunch of items from eTrailer to do maintenance on my trailer and decided to get these. These were more expensive than the Amazon tires and have been a total disaster. I get to buy another set of tires now just so I can get this nightmare out of my life.

The Kenda trailer tires are excellent. No issues and they hold up well.

by:

Was as described.

by:

The tires were hopeful to be made somewhere other than China and sure enough they were Chinese and crunched up into boxes that were difficult to prep for the rims. My tire guy was very disappointed as was I as I was told that these tires were supposed to be basically the last tires not made in China
I was hoping to give them solid business but unfortunately they will not be receiving any of mine and they were informed of my issues and did nothing about it

by:

I received the tires I ordered earlier than I expected and they were in perfect shape, which is what you would expect for new tires. I had them mounted and they are performing well. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and definitely will order from you again if I need something else.

by:

Good company to work with. Tires just like they said. Fast shipping. Thanks!

by:

Perfect match for an old 1960's era Montgomery-Ward utility trailer I found buried in a junk pile and restored for use on the farm behind ATV and golf cart.

by:

Ordered two Loadstar K399 215/60-8 load range C for my snowmobile trailer. My old tires were 5 years old and starting to cup bad so I thought I’d put a no set of tires on before winter. I received free shipping and tires arrive within a reasonable time. Local tire shop put tires on my galvanized rims that I also purchased from E-trailer. Very happy with the quality of service I receive from E-trailer! From start to finish!! Gold Star

by:

We purchased these tires as replacements for our Harbor Freight trailer. Much better than what we had. Very happy we found these.

by:

Identical tire to my 18 year old log splitter tire that finally wore out. Wasn't easy to find but of course Etrailer had it and got it to me in Montana in a couple of days. Great tire from a great company!!

by:

Good site well laid out and excellent service wish the tires lasted a little longer in the sunlight.

by:

This is only a trailer tire order, but i appreciate you taking this so seriously and following thru. I suspect this is all AI generated, which is fine. But is people are actually involved please let me know and i will sing praises from the mountaintops.

by:

Seems like a good quality tire for my utility trailer. Mounted them fairly easily on the old wheels once I found the right youtube instructional video! The right lube and strategically placed vice grips made all the difference!

by:

Perfect fit for my boat trailer- FAST s hipping!

  • Can I Use A ST205/75R14 For A Spare Tire On Trailer With ST205/75D14 Tires
Since you are not replacing all of your tires, I do not recommend to use a ST205/75R14 to use as a spare because it is not a good idea to mix radial and bias ply tires. The D in your existing tire size means it's a bias tire and the R stands for radial. Mixing radial tires with bias tires could result in uneven tire wear because they radials are more flexible. I recommend using Americana ST205/75D14 part # AM1ST52 to use as a spare if your tires are a load range C. This Taskmaster tire...

  • Recommended 205/75-14 Sized Tires to Replace Original Tires on 2003 Pop Up
First of all I definitely recommend replacing them. We recommend replacing tires are 5 years old or older regardless of the miles or treadware. I recommend keeping the same 205/75-14 size you have but unless you're predominantly driving on rough terrain I'd replace the bias tires with radials. Radial tires flex more than bias tires so they make better contact with the road. This creates better traction and tread wear. They also run cooler which helps them last longer. On the other...

  • Recommended Replacement for 7.75x14 Trailer Tire
The best replacements we have for your old 7.75x14 trailer tires are the 205/75-14 tires. For this, I recommend the Americana Kenda ST205/75D14 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM1ST52 which has a 1,760 lb load range and 81 mph speed rating. This tire has a bias ply so it will be a good replacement for what you have now and they will fit perfectly on your 14x7 wheels. If you need a different load range or would like to upgrade to a radial ply then please let me know and I will make an additional...

  • Is the Kenda ST205/75D14 AM3S455 a K558 Tire?
I can confirm the Kenda ST205/75D14 Bias Trailer Tire w 14" White Spoke Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C # AM3S455 does have the Kenda K558 ( # AM1ST52 ), but the wheel technically will not include the red and blue stipes like the # AM20352. Other than that though, they are both Dexstar wheels and have all the same capacities and sizes, they just do not have the stripes with this tire/wheel combo.

  • 14 inch Trailer Tire Size that Fits on a 7 inch Wide Trailer Wheel
The issue you experienced is frustrating for sure but not totally a surprise. The widest rim a tire size 205/75-14 is designed to fit is 6-1/2 inches. The good new is that the tire size you went with of 215/75-14 like the # TTWTRTM2157514D will fit a 7 inch wide wheel so you'll be good.

  • Recommended Replacement Tire for my F78-14st Tire.
Your trailer tire size F78-14st is an older tire size. The new label for that tire size is ST205/75D14. They are the same tire basically, but different size label. Your tire size is likely 14 inches instead of 15 inches because to measure the diameter of your tire, you do not measure the lip of the wheel. You only measure the part of the wheel the tire has contact with, also called the bead seat. With your tire size in mind I have two tire recommendations for you. If you do more highway...

  • Replacement Tires For a Car Dolly With ST205/75D14 Tires
If you want to stay with a bias tire we have the Kenda ST205/75D14 # AM1ST52 in a load range C. You will need to check your specific tow dolly to ensure this is the correct load rating for the trailer. I do see most tow dolly's will use a load range C tire. Since radial tires perform better on road than bias tires you will benefit from making the change. We have the Karrier ST205/75R14 in a load range C # AM10234 or D # AM10235.

  • Replacement Tires for 2001 Ranger Boat Trailer with F65/14ST Tires
The best modern day replacement tire size for a F65/14ST is an ST205/75-14. This new size will be about 1.5" larger in overall diameter and about .5" larger in width. That said, you only need to account for an increased diameter of .75" and increased width of.25". If this does not put you outside of the recommend tire clearance (1" between frame and tire/3-4" between tire and fender) then I recommend using the Kenda ST205/75D14 Bias Trailer Tire - Load Range C # AM1ST52. If you can provide...

  • What Causes Uneven Center Tire Wear On 205/75D14 Trailer Tires
I am not really sure what you mean by "gets out" but if you are experiencing uneven wear patterns then this is generally attributed to improper inflation. For example, if the center of the tire is wearing faster than the outside then this means you likely are overinflating the tire. If the outside edges of the tire are wearing faster then that means you are likely underinflating. The proper psi for even tread wear is listed on the sidewall of the tire in the from of cold fill psi. I recommend...

  • Replacement for 7.35x14 Trailer Tire
There is not an exact replacement for a 7.35x14 trailer tire but we do have similar options which should work for you. For this, I recommend using a 205/75-14 like the Americana Kenda Bias Trailer Tire part # AM1ST52. The Kenda should be a great fit for your log splitter. It has a load range C rating and comes with a two-year warranty. I have attached a review video for you as well.

  • Replacement Hubs, Bearings, Races, Seals, and Tires for a 1996 EZ Loader Trailer
Unfortunately, there is no documentation on the hubs and bearings for a 1996 EZ Loader Trailer. However, there is a way to determine what you need. You will have to disassemble your hubs and read the numbers on the bearings, races, and seals to determine the correct replacement. I have linked to a video demonstration of how to do this below. If you cannot read the numbers, you can use a digital caliper like part # PTW80157 to measure the inner diameter, which will help in determining...
