Will 15" Wheels and Tires Fit Escape 17B Travel Trailer After Adding Lift Kit

Published 01/21/2025

Question:

Just installed my dexter lift kit on my trailer-torsion axle. My trailer came equipped with 14 inch wheels and I wanted to switch up to 15 inch wheels-aluminum I have the 3 clearance from in the wheel well now and more than an inch of clearance on the inside. Can you tell me if you think this will work or should I be considering anything else. I am looking at the Sendell Aluminum Mod Wheels 5 on 4-1/2

Hello again Michael; is there a reason you want to add larger wheels and tries? The loss of clearance from switching to the # AM22627 will depend on your current tire size and the size you switch to. An ST205/75R14 like # KE28KV has a section width of 7.9" and an outer diameter of 26.3". If you used a tire like the ST205/75R15 # KE33KV you would lose nothing on the inside and 0.5" on top. If you used an ST225/75R15 like # KE63KV you would lose 0.35" on the inside and 1.10" on top.

I'm sure the ST205/75R15 would be alright. Technically you want at least 3" on the top and 2" on the inside of the tire. Since you added a lift kit it sounds like you were previously under 3" on top so unless your tires were hitting the wheel well even the larger ST225/75R15 will probably work without an issue. If it were me I would go with the ST205/75R15 since there will be less clearance lost.
