Replacement Leaf Springs For A 2014 Trail Star Boat Trailer

Question:

I have a 2014 trail star boat trailer that is single axle with a 3500 pound axle rating. My boat seems bouncy when I’m going over rough areas. I wondered if it could be time to replace the springs. I’m driving from California to Florida 2200 miles and want to take care of this before I hit the road. Can you recommend a good pair of springs for me.? Thanks

Hey Robert,

A bouncy ride could indicate that your leaf springs are worn out and in need of replacement, but could also indicate that you're overinflating the tires. I would first check the tires to make sure the psi rating is the same as what's on the sidewall of the tires. To replace the leaf springs you'll want to unload and lift the trailer on one side to take the pressure off of the leaf spring. You can then measure from the center of one eyelet to the other. Once we have this measurement we can pick out the correct replacements.

@Robert Since you're experiencing a lot of bouncing you can go up a bit in capacity to the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,000-lb Trailer Axles # e22YR. I've attached a link below to a video where I'll walk you through installing your new leaf springs.

@Robert Hey, it's showing we like 800 of the # e22YR in our main warehouse so that definitely doesn't sound right to me. Did you possibly have something else in your cart that is on backorder that could've given you that shipping date?

@RobertS If the shackle bolts are in good condition then just back the nut off enough so that you can hammer on it instead of the bolt itself to back it out of the shackle and hangers. If you have standard bolts then you'll most likely have a mechanical lock nut (has a small divot on the outside) which will need to be replaced because it will no longer bite into the threads after being backed off. Replacing the bolts just comes down to diameter and length. The # e22YR has would require a 9/16" diameter bolt. The length is going to vary depending on the thickness so I recommend measuring the length of your current bolts before purchasing to ensure you're getting the right fit. Let me know what the length is and I can find the right part for you. As for the mechanical lock nut you can use part # TRFA916DLNZ. I've attached a link to one of my videos below where I'll go through swapping out suspension components and offer some helpful tips along the way.
