Video Transcript for TruRyde Trailer Suspension TRSS175 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at a spring seat for typical 2,000 pound, round trailer axles, with a 1-3/4 inch diameter. The spring seat is a necessary component of your trailer's suspension system. When mounted with a 1-3/4 inch wide leaf spring, it adds extra support and provides proper positioning for the axle. This unit's made from a durable steel construction. It welds on to a round 1-3/4 inch diameter axle, which is a typical 2,000 axle. It sits on top of a 1-3/4 inch wide spring. The cut out on the flat side of the seat surrounds the raised knob on the leaf spring to prevent turning or shifting.

It's going to provide extra support and secure positioning for the trailer axle. Please note that two spring seats are required for each axle. A few measurements to go over with you real quick. Start with the overall length, measuring edge to edge. It's going to measure about 2-1/4 of an inch long. Overall width, measures about 1-7/8 of an inch.

The height, is just shy of 1 inch, about 15/16 of an inch tall. Then this opening, right here, the rounded point, at the widest spot, that's going to give us an opening measurement of really close to an 1-1/2, maybe 1-7/16 of an inch, right in that area. That's going to do it for today's look at the spring seat for typical 2,000 pound, round trailer axles, with a 1-3/4 inch diameter.

  • Recommended Parts for Rebuild/Upgrade of Harbor Freight Trailer
The Dexter Trailer Idler Axle w/ Hubs - EZ-Lube - 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern - 60" Long - 2,200 lbs # 20545I-EZ-60-15 is a great starting point to upgrade your trailer. This will give you a standard size axle with good bearings, hubs, and EZ-lube spindles. This is far nicer than the weird sized stuff that comes on Harbor Freight trailers. The Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D # AM31994 will be a great addition to these hubs and...

  • How To Get Additional Clearance To Run Larger Tires On Karavan 5 x 8 Utility Trailer
To change the 4.80x12 tires on your Karavan 5' x 8' utility trailer to ST175/80D13 tires you will need need to have 5-6" clearance between the top of the tire to the bottom of the fender, and 2-3" between the inside of the tire to the frame. The ST175/80D13 is going to be about 3-1/2" taller than your current tires, and about 2" wider than your current tires. Based on the pictures you provided you will likely not have enough clearance without lifting the trailer. Not to worry this is...

  • Can etrailer 2,000 lb Axle be Flipped
The etrailer axle part # e82GR can only be installed in an underslung orientation. Since the axle has a bow to it if you were to flip it the alignment would be way off. You'd have to weld spring seats on the opposite side of the axle with the part # TRSS175 to install the axle as an overslung setup.

  • Replacement Parts for 1987 Trailer
Hi Tim; I can get you everything aside from the hangers. All of our standard hangers are designed to weld on but you may be able to find that bolt-on style elsewhere online or at a local shop. Hangers like those do still exist although I'm not sure how easy they are to find. We don't have complete kits but I can piece it together for you. For the rest of your setup we have the following: -Dexter Trailer Idler Axle Beam with EZ-Lube Spindles - 72" Long - 2,200 lbs # T20BTR-EZ-7258 -Spring...

  • Selecting a New Axle, Wheels and Tires for a 4 x 8-Foot Utility Trailer
An easy way to replace your axle is to use a complete kit such as Dexter # 20545I-EZ-60-15. This kit consists of the 60-inch axle, idler hubs, bearings, seals, lug nuts and grease caps - and even grease. This axle is rated for 2200-lbs and its spring centers are at 48-inches. Its hubs have the same 5-on-4-1/2-inch bolt pattern as the wheel/tire you referenced, part # AM31985 from Kenda. This kit will work with 13-inch wheels. Note that you will need to weld on new spring seats on top of...

  • Recommended 2,000 lbs Axle w/ a 72" Hub-Face-to-Hub-Face Measurement
You can but it's going to stick out an extra 1-1/2" wide on either side and you'll need to move the spring seats and replace them with a pair of item # TRSS175. I checked our inventory and the etrailer Axle item # e37YR you were looking at is going to be the closest we have to your 69" hub-face-to-hub-face dimension. If you have any additional questions feel free to throw them into the comment box below.

  • Installing Dexter Trailer Axle T20BTR-7258 In Application Where Spring Seats Need to be Opposite
Since you need the spring seat on the opposite side of the trailer axle part # T20BTR-7258 that you referenced you'd need to either have the spring seat that's on it removed and attached on the other side of it or have new ones like the part # TRSS175 welded to the opposite side. The bow in the axle allows it to flatten out once the weight of the trailer is put on it. This is why you can't just flip the axle over.

  • Does e84YR Axle Come Overslung Or Underslung?
Hello Matthew, thanks for reaching out. As of right now, all of the axles we carry are underslung. Honestly, I wish we did carry overslung axles since they are becoming more common, especially of 5th wheels. There are talks about us making this happen, but there is no ETA for when we would actually carry that. For now the only option would be to get the axle along with a few loose spring seats part # TRSS175 and have them welded to the top of the axle. The # e84YR axle you were looking...

  • Is it Normal for an Axle to be Installed Above as Well as Below the Leaf Springs?
Hey Jeff! Yes, the axle can be installed either above the leaf springs or below the leaf springs - it all depends on if the spring seats are located above or below the axle. I see you ordered the Spring Seat # TRSS175 from us recently. Are you having it welded onto the other side of your axle so you can swap where the axle is installed?

  • Axle Flip Kit for a 1,000 Lb to 2,000 Lb Trailer Axle 1-3/4 Inch Diameter
I have a solution that will allow you to flip your axle but there is not an all-inclusive kit for your axle size so we will need to piece together one. I assume you have a 1-3/4" diameter axle (1,000 lb - 2,000 lb) so that means you will need the U-Bolt Kit part # APUBR-10 and the Spring Seat part # TRSS175 (2). These u-bolts are 4-1/4" which is the longest we have for this width. However, I would highly doubt that you will require a 6" long u-bolt as most leaf springs are only 3/8" thick....

  • What is Needed to Lift Camper With Round 2k Axle
Hi Sean, You mentioned you have a higher GVWR but it looks to be just about 2,200 lbs for your Starcraft pop-up, so I'm guessing you have a 2,000 lb axle still. You'll want to verify you do and that it is round and 1-3/4" in diameter, and if so you can use the same things you had previously seen, a pair of the Spring Seat for Typical 2,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles with 1-3/4" Diameter # TRSS175 and U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 2,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles # APUBR-10. • Do You Have a Replacement Axle Rated for 2K with 72" Hub Face and 59 1/2" Spring Center?
Hello Philip, We don’t have an exact match for your specifications. The closest option we carry is the axle you were looking at: Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs - 4 on 4 Bolt Pattern - 72" Long - 2,000 lbs # e62YR. The 72" hub face matches your requirement, but the spring center is 58", not the 59.5" you’re looking for. You could still make it work by welding on new spring seats, such as part # TRSS175. What kind of trailer is this going on?

  • How to Determine the Correct Over-Under Conversion Kit
In order to determine whether you need the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00 (2-3/8") or # K71-385-00 (3") you will need to measure the diameter of your axle. If you get 2-3/8" then you need # K71-384-00 and if you get 3" then you need # K71-385-00. As far as tires/rims are concerned you will want to ensure you have a 4 on 4 bolt pattern (which is the most common 4 bolt pattern) I have included a link to an article that can help you with determining this. • Will etrailer Axle Fit 5x7 DK2 Trailer
Hey Mario! The # e22GR might fit but I don't have the axle information for that trailer. I recommend getting your hub face measurement along with the spring center measurement to see if it matches. I can try to reach out to DK2 but they haven't responded to myself or others on my team for quite a while now so measuring is the best solution. • Looking For Axle For Boat Trailer With Hubs And Springs
Hello Don, thanks for reaching out. We do offer an axle with a 72" hub face in both a 2,000 lb capacity and 2,200 lb capacity. The spring seats on our axles are at 58" so you would have to have new spring seats welded on at 61". For example, the Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs # e37YR has a 72" HF, 58" SC and it comes with 5 on 4-1/2" idler hubs. Then we offer loose spring seats as part # TRSS175. Then for new U-bolts use part # CE23000. We have leaf springs for 2,000 lb axles like part...

  • Do You Make Custom Axles? Need 2K Axle 60" Hub Face, 44" Spring Center, with 5 on 4 1/2" Hubs?
Hello Evan, Many moons ago we used to make custom axles, but we no longer do that. But don't be discouraged, what we recommend is getting the Dexter Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs - 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern - 60" Long - 2,000 lbs # 20545I-ST-60-15 (the axle you were looking at), then adding new spring seats where you need them. We do NOT recommend cutting off the other ones, there is too much room for error on doing so and you can very easily ruin your brand new axle. For new spring seats...

  • Does etrailer Carry 71" Long 2,000 lb Replacement Axle
Hi Dennis; a 71" axle is not something that we carry. However, you can use an axle like the Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs - 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern - 72" Long - 2,000 lbs # e37YR as a replacement. This will stick out an extra 1/2" on either side but it isn't enough of a difference to be a problem. The only other thing that you may need to do is move the spring seats. This axle has a 58" spring center measurement so if yours are different you will have to cut them off and weld on # TRSS175...

  • How to Flip a 1-3/4" Diameter Axle So the Springs are Above the Axle
Yes, it can Darin but you'll need some extra parts. The Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs item # e62YR has a bend in it, like all axles, and if you just flip the axle over this will be pointed down causing alignment issues with your tires. You run the risk of wearing your tires out quicker just inverting the axle. What you'll need to do is install two of the Spring Seats item # TRSS175 on the opposite side of the axle at the desired location. This will give you a mounting point to use the...

Hey Bob. I have a solution for you but they don't make a specific kit for a 1-3/4" diameter axle like they do with the 2-3/8" item # K71-384-00 you were looking at. To make your own conversion kit for a single 1-3/4" diameter axle you will need one of the U-bolt kit Item # APUBR-10 and two of the spring seats item # TRSS175 you were looking at. Hey Jake, thanks for the information. The closest axle I have to those dimensions is the Trailer Idler Axle Beam item # e78GR. This is a 2,000 lbs capacity axle with a 72" hub face. It's got a straight spindle which uses item # L44649 inner and outer bearings.
