1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at this Dexter trailer hub and drum assembly. This is a beefy trailer hub and drum. Weighs in about 130 pounds. So it is going to be very, very sturdy. It's got this iron construction, so it will hold up really well for you.
It's got a max weight capacity of 7,500 pounds, and of course you'll have one on each side. So it is going to work for your 15,000 pound heavy-duty axles. This will provide approximately 5 1/2 inches of surface area for your brake shoes to grip when your brake is activated. This will work with your hydraulic drum brakes, as well as your electric drum brakes. The braces are installed already as well as your 3 1/2 inch-- sorry, 3 1/4 inch long by 5/8 inch diameter wheel studs.
The bolt pattern for these studs is 8 on 275 millimeters. This hub is going to be compatible with the oil bath lubrication system, as you can see with the threads there. So it's going to allow you to easily check your lubrication level without having to disassemble the hub. Just look through the clear cap to check your oil levels. Now, this does not include the oil cap, any of the oil seals, the bearings or lug nuts.

The break parts are like original. When we got it back together we got our trailer DOT certified.Life can go on.
I received my parts on time and in good order. I ordered two left hand brake assemblies, and two right hand assemblies. Unfortunately, four right hand units were delivered. To the companies credit, they refunded me for two of the units. Also the knock off oil bath 12 inch Dexter brake drum hub assemblies, which were very good quality, did not have the oil drain hole drilled in the side of the hub like the originals. This made it slightly more difficult to fill them with oil and they also will be more difficult to drain them, add oil and refill. I will be tempted to purchase the original Dexters in the future.

Best choice I have ever made. My fifth wheeler tires never get higher than 90degrees F on the roads from the good old Texas. Equivalent to 3K miles round trip to my beautiful twin cities MN.

Perfect fit. I bought these because I wanted to change my horse trailer from No. 2 wheel bearing grease to No. 00 semi fluid grease. It’s the best characteristics of both grease and oil hubs without the negatives if you ask me. Well I needed a vented hub so the oil bath hubs. A tube and a half later of Schaeffer’s 274 Moly EP synthetic NLGI#00 grease and all bearings packed, hubs half full of grease and everything torqued to spec and I was done. There really is no better place for trailer parts than etrailer. Best prices and fast shipping.
