Features to know about

Direct Replacement for Worn Hubs: Fits 3,500-lb Axles with #84 Spindles

When you’re refreshing a trailer that’s been in service for years, it’s nice to drop in parts that fit exactly. This Dexter hub-and-drum assembly is built for 3,500-lb axles with #84 spindles and has a 5 on 5" bolt pattern. The 10" diameter drum works with 10" brake assemblies (electric or hydraulic) and includes everything needed for mounting—inner bearing L68149, outer bearing L44649, matching races L68111 and L44610, grease seal 58846 (1.719" ID × 2.565" OD), grease cap (1.98" flange diameter), wheel bolts, and 1/2" lug nuts. Each hub supports 1,750 lbs, giving a combined axle capacity of 3,500 lbs.

Solid Iron Hub and Drum: Reliable Braking Surface

A sturdy iron casting gives the brake shoes a consistent surface to grab, whether you’re towing across town or down the highway. The 10" × 2-1/4" drum design works smoothly with standard brake assemblies and keeps braking performance even on long grades or during repeated stops.

Straightforward Install: Races Pre-Installed and Hardware Included

The races come already seated in the hub, so you only need to grease the bearings, install the seal, and slide it onto the spindle. With the grease cap, bolts, and lug nuts included, you avoid multiple parts runs and can finish the job in one go. No guesswork—everything matches from the first fit-up.

Balanced Setup for Smooth Rolling

Matched bearing sizes—inner L68149 (1.378" ID) and outer L44649 (1.063" ID)—keep the hub centered on the spindle for even rotation. The correctly machined center bore (2.67") mates cleanly to most trailer wheels with a 3.19" pilot diameter, giving a snug, vibration-free ride.

Built for Ongoing Use: Works with Electric or Hydraulic Brakes

Whether you’re running electric brakes or sticking with hydraulic, this hub and drum is ready for either setup. It’s a dependable, serviceable assembly that makes restoring, upgrading, or keeping a trailer road-worthy simple and predictable.

Determining Bolt Pattern

1. Count the lug holes

Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).

Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug

2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.

Center to Center
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"

2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).

Center to Outside Edge
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Quick shipping. Parts fit perfectly. Bearings were cheap so I used better bearings from auto parts store. Overall good value.

by:

Shipping was faster than expected, the price was great, the quality of the products was as I expected, which was excellent. It was extremely easy to use the website to select the parts I needed for my trailer.

by:

I have used Etrailer.com many times, their customer service, knowledge and shipping speed cannot be beat. Great company and staff to work with. Shipping speed and method is top notch!

by:

The seller had the product I needed - 5X5 hub. Product was in excellent shape when delivered. Bearing races were set in hub which was a pleasant convenience. I will do business with seller in the future.

by:

The drum and bearing/seal package fit like a dream and your prompt shipping to my field destination was amazing. Thank you for your service. I will definitely tell others about your company and services.

by:

Received parts as expected in good shape. The grease cap was a bit of an issue with the fit up. Needed a little more machining to the hub for the fit.

by:

The hub/drum fit fine and seems to be of good quality.
The bearings are Chinese made and I wish the assembly included only USA made bearings-seals.

by:

I just added trailer brakes to my BBQ trailer. These brakes a worth the money. This was my first time to install trailer brakes it took me only about an hour for the complete installation. It could have been done faster if i was younger. GREAT ITEM

Everything to add brakes to one axle fit perfectly and worked as it should. In less than two hours after my order,I got confirmation that it had shipped.Excellent outcome from placing the order to installing the parts.I will definitely do business with Etrailer again.

by:

Breakers were great installed with ease. One comment though the dust/bearing caps were just a little bit to big to fit the drum I had to grind them down a little to get them on.

by:

Could not have been more pleased with the order of new electric brakes and drums for my trailer. Easy ordering and fast delivery.
Everything fit as it should.
Thank you very much.

Still working fine. Good product, excellent customer support!

by:

Had a mixup in hub numbers. Called Amanda at etrailer, and we worked it out very satisfactorily. New parts and refund were received promptly. If I need additional trailer parts, I will certainly use your company again. The new parts worked exactly as prescribed. Thanks, JC

by:

Ordered a set of four hub and drum assemblies for my 15 year old Big Tex 70DM car hauler trailer. All merchandise arrived intact and within a reasonable time. Especially liked the convenient hand holes for easy carrying of the heavy cartons. Great hardware package. The remove and replace went without a hitch (pun!) and she's back on the road. I have ordered from etrailer before and will again when the need arises.

by:

Very nice product. All the parts were included with the brake drums to make for an effortless installation. I've bought items from etrailer in the past and will buy from them in the future.

Good communication and quick shipping.

Prices are very reasonable.

by:

These kits bolted on with no modification. I replaced a hydraulic surge brake system with them. The brakes perform well and the auto adjusters make it easy to keep them well adjusted.

by:

Purchased new backing plates assemblies and drum assemblies 2 to replace worn out parts and 2 for installation on an axle that didn't have brakes on at all. Parts fit great and have been working flawlessly for a year. Great parts, prices, and shipping time.

Thanks,

Brad B.

Perfect fit for my M101CDN2 military trailer converting to Jeep JK 5 on 5 bolt pattern. Only complaint is the imported bearings supplied with them. Will be adding Dexter electric brakes soon.

by:

On a tandem axle trailer I add brakes to the non brake axle. This matched the other brake axle perfectly.

The trailer stops as well now as the day they were installed.

by:

I ordered new Brake Hubs and Brake backing plates. After a year and constant use, these are still holding strong. There is no substitute for 4-wheel braking on any dual axle trailer. I highly recommend upgrading any two wheel axle brakes to 4 wheel braking. They work! Thank you etrailer.

Still going strong- brakes still work perfect.

by:

Perfect fit when used with the Dexter Never adjust brake system. I normally purchase Dexter for the RV and in this case a flat bed car hauler for the quality of the parts.

by:

I was very satisfied! Everything fit like it should and the trailer tows great. I will definitely order from etrailer again!

by:

Purchased a 7,000 Lb. trailer, but new laws required a trailer with a weight rating to have axle brakes. With the help of etrailer; I found the right parts to add brakes to my trailer. All the parts fit perfect. Thank you.

by:

I originally received drums with incorrect bolt circles due to box contents not matching their labels. etrailer provided a shipping label for their return and had the correct drums on the way even before receiving the incorrect ones back. All bearings, races and grease seals were included in sealed packs, as well as detailed instructions. After packing the bearings with grease, as well as the hubs, final installation was simple.

The final result worked quite well. After learning the cause of the self-adjusting brakes overtightening from a different source but the etrailer staff should have recognized the issue I loaded my 2500 pound sports car on my trailer for a round trip of about 1500 miles and was very satisfied with the brake performance.

  • Availability of Dexter Axle Brake Assemblies K23-026-00 and K23-027-00
We do have the regular Dexter Axle brakes and their Nev-R-Adjust equivalents. The regular (manually adjusted) brakes that you are wanting are listed as part # 23-26 for the Left Hand side and part # 23-27 for the Right Hand side. Their Nev-R-Adjust equivalents are parts # 23-468 and # 23-469 respectively. The Dexter Axle hub and drum assemblies that we have for a 3,500 lb axle use the Inner Bearing # L68149 and Outer Bearing # L44649. If you have a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern then you want...

Additionally the # 84556UC3 is not going to fit your spindle because the # L68149 outer bearing it contains is going to be slightly too big. You could continue to use your old hubs and simply replace the bearings with the # LM48548 and # L44649.
