Backing down a ramp or maneuvering into tight spots is easier with these 12" free-backing hydraulic drum brakes. The fall-away shoe setup keeps the brakes from engaging when you move in reverse, even if your surge actuator is activated. You still get solid forward braking when you need it, but the shoes release smoothly for hassle-free reversing and no wheel lockup.
These brake assemblies are designed for harsh, wet environments. The Dacromet-coated backing plates, stainless steel springs, and aluminum hydraulic cylinders deliver superior corrosion resistance for saltwater or snow applications. They’re tough enough for long-term use on marine or winter gear trailers without the rust and binding that can plague unprotected parts.
Each shoe uses automotive-grade friction material bonded to the surface—no rivets to loosen or wear unevenly. The pads are tapered and circular-ground to prevent cracking and crumbling, keeping braking smooth and consistent over time. Certified to SAE-N standards, the lining provides strong, reliable braking performance while meeting strict environmental guidelines.
These assemblies fit most standard hub-and-drum setups including Dexter, Lippert (LCI), and AL-KO. They mount on a 5-bolt flange and work with 14-1/2", 15", 16", and 16-1/2" wheels for axles rated at 5,200 lbs, 6,000 lbs, and 7,000 lbs. With left-hand and right-hand assemblies included, they’re a direct fit solution for building or outfitting multiple trailers.
These brakes aren’t just built tough—they’re verified tough. Each assembly meets Canadian Standards Association (CSA) certification requirements and has been tested by QAI for braking performance under real-world conditions. That means proven stopping distances and consistent performance every time you hit the brakes.

Works very well and super nice that I no longer have to lock out my surge brakes to back up an incline. Very easy to install.
