Features to know about

Upgrade Old Drum Brakes for Stronger, Smoother Stops: 13" Dacromet Disc Kit with Hub and Rotor

If you’re replacing worn drum brakes or upgrading your setup, this 13" Kodiak disc brake kit gives you a major boost in stopping power. Each 1-piece hub-and-rotor assembly bolts right on to a #42 spindle for a 7,000-lb axle with an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern and 1/2" wheel bolts. The large, stainless steel piston and ceramic pads create fast, consistent braking that feels smooth and controlled even at highway speeds.

Built to Resist Rust and Salt Damage: Dacromet-Coated Components

Saltwater, slush, and coastal air can take out bare metal brakes fast. These Dacromet-plated hub-and-rotor assemblies, calipers, and brackets hold up to 300 to 400 hours of salt spray before corrosion starts. That makes them ideal for trailers that see wet or treated roads all season long. The coating protects every major component for long-term reliability in rough conditions.

Runs Cooler and Lasts Longer: Vented Rotor Design

Heavy towing generates serious heat, but these vented rotors spread it out fast. The vented design dissipates heat quicker than solid rotors, cutting down on brake fade and extending pad life. You get repeatable, confident braking even when hauling over long grades or stopping under load.

Low Maintenance, High Convenience: Preassembled Kit with Bearings and Seals

This complete kit comes ready to mount with everything needed for one axle—inner and outer bearings (25580 and 14125A), races (25520 and 14276), grease seals (10-36), E-Z Lube caps, wheel bolts, and lug nuts. The disc setup has no springs or magnets to replace and requires minimal maintenance over time. When the pads wear down, they’re easy to access right from the outside of the caliper for a quick swap.

Reliable Performance Year After Year: Durable Construction with Side-Support Brackets

Every part of this system is built for strength. The cast iron hub-and-rotor assemblies are paired with ductile iron caliper brackets that use a side-support design to carry the load on the bracket instead of the bolts. That detail prevents bolt wear and keeps your braking system solid over time. With automotive-grade materials, stainless steel hardware, and a 3-year warranty, it’s made for lasting performance through repeated towing seasons.

Video Transcript for Breaking Down the Kodiak Disc Brakes

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Kodiak 13-inch hub and rotor disc brake assembly set. This is going to allow you to upgrade your trailer from drum brakes to disc brakes so that you can take advantage of the superior performance that comes along with having disc brakes on your trailer. Having the two brake assemblies is going to allow us to upgrade a single axle with a 7,000 pound capacity and the number 42 spindles. Our rotors are 13 inches in diameter and you can see we've got eight of these half inch diameter bolts in the 8 on 6 and a half inch bolt pattern. So these are going to work for your wheels that are 16 inches and larger.

Our hub and rotor as well as our calipers and our mounting bracket, all have this Dacromet finish that's going to offer excellent rust and corrosion resistance with 300 to 400 hour of salt spray rating. So this is gonna be great option for your boat trailers and trailers that are used in coastal areas or on roads that are gonna be heavily treated. So if you're looking at your good, better, best kind of scenario, I'd say your Dacromet is probably your better. There is stainless steel construction that is going to be a little bit better, little bit longer lasting but your Dacromet is definitely one of your best options out there as far as corrosion resistance goes. So this is gonna do a great job for you on that side.

It's also going to give you a much better performance than you're used to with your drum brakes. Having the disc brakes is going to dramatically shorten your stopping distance. It's also going to make it a much smoother, more controlled ride for you so you don't have to worry about that push and pull that you sometimes get with your drum brakes. These do have these ceramic brake pads that help to increase the stopping power and you can't see it, but there is a large 2 and a half inch diameter stainless steel piston that's gonna provide fast, responsive braking for you. So definitely an improvement over your drum brakes.

And not only are you going to get better performance but it's also going to require less maintenance and therefore it's gonna save you time and money. Having the one piece hub and rotor assembly is gonna reduce the chance of uneven rotor wear. And then here on the side, we do have the vented design that's gonna help dissipate heat faster to prevent premature brake pad wear. So overall, a really great quality, automotive grade construction that's going to be very long lasting to help save you time and money. Doesn't have all the small springs and different things that your drum brakes do, and so less to have to replace in the future.

The one caveat with disc brakes is that they do require a higher line pressure and so you're gonna need to make sure that you've got a brake actuator and brake lines that are rated for 1500 PSI or higher in order to activate your disc brakes. That's pretty rare on trailers that have drum brakes currently so that is gonna be a bit of a project to upgrade the rest of your system. But we do sell both the actuator and the brake lines here at etrailer.com and those are sold separately. They're not included in this kit. So this kit isn't gonna give you everything that you need but it is going to include the two Dacromet plated, cast iron hub and rotor assemblies with those eight pre-installed wheel bolts that have that half inch diameter. You're also gonna get the 16 of these half inch zinc plated steel lug nuts to make sure that your wheel stays in place. You're gonna have the two Dacromet plated, cast iron calipers and the two Dacromet plated, ductile iron caliper mounting brackets. And these brackets you can see, have the 5-bolt brake flange configuration. So they are gonna be very easy to put in place on your axle. Now I do want to point out that I do have these mounted on top just for display purposes, for balance and whatnot. When you actually install these, they're gonna be on the side and having that side support design puts all the weight on the mounting bracket instead of the bolts here. So it's gonna help to take some of the pressure off those bolts, make sure that they last longer. These are stainless steel caliper mounting bolts. You're gonna get four of these with this kit. You're also going to have the inner and outer races pre-installed on the system so those are included obviously but then you'll also get your inner and outer bearings to make sure that everything's running smoothly. This kit is going to be lubricated with grease so you're going to get two of these grease seals for the inside. And then two of these E-Z lube grease caps for the outside. Those do have that removable rubber plug so that you can very easily access your E-Z lube spindles, pump some grease in there without having to take everything apart in between your regular grease bearing, packing maintenance. So overall, like I said, a great upgrade coming from drum brakes to disc brakes, gonna give you much better performance, require much less maintenance and having that Dacromet finish on there is going to make sure that these last a nice long time for you. So that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.

Seams to be quality product.Does NOT come with mounting bolts for the caliper bracket mounts so make sure you have 8 -7/16 nuts and bolts on hand if you are switching from factory brake setup.

Fantastic love it. Worth every cent I paid for it. All big trailer should come with discus brakes standard . Stopping power is like night and day there a big difference.

Kodiak stainless steel disc trailer brakes are phenomenal! Super durable especially in saltwater environments. They last for years
by:
Perfect fit and much easier to work on, compared to the original Dexter brake assemblies.

No regrets and loving the product design.

Dexter works well but sadly these come with china bearing. I order Timken instead. Wish you could get the best with the best in one package. Probably should be an option. Maybe it is and I missed it.

Nothing new which is good news, although I will replace the bearings sometime this winter with Timken. This is the stock brake for Morryde IIS and it work well enough. The China bearing are what it comes with, but in an effort to not have to worrywonder, Timken is my choice. Not sure about some of the complaints but other than cardboard not holding up to heavy metal mine were new and good. I believe sometimes returns and part get put in a box a second time and that screws everyone up. Not being an upgrade, I am not sure there is another choice even if I wanted it.

One caliper failed (broke from flange) after 2000 miles. Had to reach out to Dexter for prompt warranty replacement. etrailer was very helpful in getting me in touch with the manufacturer.

Good Product, Great service.

Kodiak disc brake kits look very nicely made and work well with no issues.

Delivered on time. I did not give it a 5 because the boxes were pretty torn up upon arrival. Other than that everything went well.
by:
These rotors and calipers are very impressive, they look better than I expected. Can’t wait to install them.

I decided to go with the Kodiak set up and we couldn’t be happier with the service with them. I feel that the trailer stops around 40 better.

by:
I bought the brake kit to repair the Kodiak brake kit that I installed over 10 years ago. I am very pleased with the kit. I lost a caliper and it damaged the rotor. I had a service teck grease my wheel bearings and I suspect he did not use lock tight on the caliper pins and did not thoroughly tighten the pins on one side. Shipping is an issue. The box is very heavy and was badly damaged during shipping. I was sent the wrong kit and received a correct kit a week later. Both shipping boxes were destroyed. Cannibalized one box to fix the other box (lots of packing tape) to return the initial kit.
by:
I'm so glad I swapped out these old drums. Installation was a breeze. Yes, I painted the calipers to match the Brembos on my Jeep SRT.
by:
Package box had a lot of damage. Bearings were not sealed in any packaging and were loose in the box. Not of the items had damage but I am not use to this type of quality from etrailer. etrailer is a very good company.
by:
Got them installed but haven't had the time to try them.
by:
I replaced my drum brake system last year
I was very impressed with the additional stopping power.
I paid extra for the Dacromet material so that I wouldn't have to deal with them rusting during periods of non use.
When I opeed the trailer for the season, this is what I found.

Not happy!
by:
Your plastic caps are terrible
They heat up and fall off

It’s a disgrace that you would offer them
The set set should be sold with metal caps
by:
Quality is absolutely terrible. The Castings look like rejects. There is massive pitting of the metal. There are sharp edges where the part was cut from the casting trees. The caliper mount bracket is a casting that makes the caliper sit much further inboard than most of the other style brackets. When I tried to mount the caliper to the bracket, after the bracket was bolted to the axle flange. The Rotor inside of the rotor dragged on the caliper bracket. I had to grind away some of the metal of the bracket so that the hub/rotor would rotate freely. Where the rotor is bolted to the adapter, None of the bolts are recessed or set in the preformed holes as they should be. This is obviously very poor China or elsewhere manufacturing. Kodiak(DEXTER) should be ashamed of themselves for selling this junk.

Lauren is great. I wished I would have let her handle everything!!!

Always a helpful crew!

  • Parts Needed to Convert to Disc Brakes on 2011 Keystone Montana 346LBQ 5th Wheel Trailer
Hey Adam, We can definitely get you set up to convert your 2011 Keystone Montana 346LBQ 5th wheel trailer from drum to disc brakes. You'll need a hub and rotor kit, so what you'll need is the following: - Kodiak Disc Brakes # KOD66FR Since you're moving to disc, I assume you're going to an electric-over-hydraulic set up for your 5th wheel. We do have a kit with the rest of the needed parts for that if you need them, the Hydrastar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator w/ Line Kit for Disc Brakes...

  • Which Disc Brake Kit is Going to Be Best For a Trailer With 7,000LB Tandem Axles?
I feel the Hydrastar Disc Brake Kit # HSE7K-T1 is of similar quality to the Kodiak Disc Brakes # KOD66FR. If you are looking for the best brakes I prefer the DeeMaxx Disc Brakes # DE88YR. These rotors have additional venting and the calipers have a stainless steel construction to resist corrosion which often leads to the caliper failing and needing replaced. If you choose to go with the DeeMaxx or Kodiak you can get a Actuator # HS381-8067 and Brake Line Kit # HS496-252 separately. You...

  • Looking For Replacement Disc Brake Kit For Triple Axle Trailer With 7K Axles
Hey Phillip, thanks for reaching out. The Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # KOD66FR is exactly what I recommend for your trailer. Since you've already converted one axle over to the Kodiak 250 setup and want everything to match, this is the easiest way to get there. You'll need two kits to replace the brakes on both braking axles, and they'll give you a complete, matching setup instead of piecing everything together one component at a time. Each kit includes the hub/rotors, calipers, caliper mounting...

We sell Kodiak hub and rotor kits like the part # KOD66FR which you could use to piece together a conversion kit for your 2016 Keystone Fuzion 345 which has 7k axles but we do not have kits that include all of the components needed from Kodiak. The only other part number you'd need is the part # CAR-HBA16-2 which comes with the best actuator from Hydrastar and all of the brake lines and breakaway kit components needed. You'll need two of the part # KOD66FR.
