Video Transcript for What to Know About the 12-1/4" x 2-1/2" Brake Shoe and Lining for Dexter

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the replacement brake shoes for the Dexter 12 1/4" by 2 1/2" Right Hand Side Electric Brake Assembly. Now these are the replacement, primary and secondary brake shoes, for the Dexter 12 1/4" by 2 1/2" Right Hand Electric Brake Assembly. That's for 7,200 pound axles and has the cast backing plate after April of 2000. And now we do sell that whole assembly.

If you need the whole assembly, we do sell that separately on our website. It is part number 23-429. Now, I did wanna mention about being a right hand side assembly. The reason that is, is 'cause when these are installed, you always want the primary shoe, which is this shoe here, facing the front of the trailer and then the secondary shoe will be at the rear of the trailer. So when these are installed, this one's designed to be pointing towards the front, and the way you can tell a difference between the shoes, the primary shoe will always have the shorter pad on it, so the pad goes from here to here, and the secondary shoe will be the longer pad, it goes all the way from here, all the way to here.

So when these are installed, this will be at the rear, this one will be facing the front. Now this part does include the two brake shoes. Now we mentioned the size brakes this fits. It's a 12 1/4" by 2 1/2" dimension, and what that measurement is, is when these are installed onto the brake assembly, and in place, the 12 1/4" is gonna be the diameter measured from this shoe to this shoe. So if we measure it across here when it's installed, it'll measure 12 1/4", and then the 2 1/2" is the actual width of the shoe itself.

There you can see, we put a ruler on it, 2 1/2". Now these brake shoes with the right hand side, if you do need 'em for the left hand side also, we do sell those separately on the website.
