Video Transcript for Review of Dexter Axle Trailer Brake Parts - Replacement Shoe and Lining Kit - DX28FR

Hey, everybody. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're going to be taking a quick look at the Dexter Shoe and Lining Kit for your 12x2 inch electric brake assembly. So this is a way to replace the shoe and lining or that outer part of your brake assembly. It's a good idea to get two of these, so you can do one for either side of your axle. You don't really want to just do one side because then your brakes will start to wear unevenly, so it's a good idea to do both at the same time while you're already getting the trailer up in the air and getting access to the one side of your axle. That's pretty much the hardest part anyway, so you might as well do both.

So let's take a closer look, make sure that this is the right fit for your application.Again, this works for a 12 inch diameter by two inch wide brake assembly. This is going to be for your 7,000 pound axles. It includes both your primary and secondary brake shoes with the lining, two hold down pins, and your two shoe hold down springs, so we'll have those guys there. The way to tell the difference on which side goes where is the shorter lining goes towards the front and the longer piece goes towards the rear. So with this one, the sides are pretty much the same, so you just flip it from one side to the other to make sure that it's in the right orientation for your application.

That's pretty much all there is to it for our look at the replacement shoe and lining kit for your Dexter electric brake assembly. I hope this has been helpful in deciding if this is the right piece for you. We do have a lot of accessories and parts here for your trailers here at etrailer.com, so check them out. Thanks for watching.

I had a grease seal malfunction and ruin one set of new brake shoes. Shawnee helped me and in quick order, had my parts identified. She suggested an expedited ground service. I had my parts promptly and they fit perfectly. Shawnee made my worries go away and my 5th wheel is rolling again. etrailer has my highest recommendation.

by:

Perfect fit for my united covered trail er.

by:

We go to your website when we need parts for trailers that is difficult to find at stores because they are not in stock and/or price too high.

by:

These pads didn't come with the rivets installed to connect the springs. We ended up having to cut them off of the old pads and weld them on. They also don't seem to automatically tighten even though they have the automatic tighteners installed on them. I understand this isn't the entire assembly but he would at least think it would come with the parts necessary to install them without having to weld spring connection points to them. Other than that, they seem to be an exact replacement.

by:

just what I wanted good product good service arrived on time

by:

etrailer service and shipping is excellent! These shoes are horrible and are unsafe which will cause injuries and fatalities! My trailers are seldom used and driven gently. The bonding on these shoes often fails and locks the brake up without warning! Once they have some age, the lining can be pulled off by hand! Hoping the replacements would be riveted, but are not!

by:

Service was excellent and professional. Shipping was also very fast. As of the writing of this review, I have not yet installed them.

by:

Perfect fit, Trailer stops nicely now.

by:

Shoes are great, though it would be less hassle if your will call deck was open. I'm only 15 minutes away.

by:

  • Correct Electric Trailer Brakes For Dexter 7,000 lb Axle
Thanks for the photo, and you are correct, you do indeed have a Dexter 7,000 lb axle, and are also correct regarding the shoes and magnets for Dexter 7k electric brakes, the Replacement Shoe # DX28FR and Replacement Magnet # BP01-225. That said, replacing the entire electric brake assembly is a good idea, and what you need for your Dexter 7k axle is the following: - Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 7,000 lbs # 23-180-181 - Mounting Bolts and...

Your 2012 Keystone Raptor will have had the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 7,000 lbs # 23-180-181 unless they were changed out with another brand at some point. If you do have the Dexter # 23-180-181 (which are manual adjust and not the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust) we have the correct replacement parts for those brakes with the following: - Replacement Shoe and Lining Kit for Dexter 12" x 2" Electric Brake Assembly # DX28FR - Replacement Magnet Kit...

  • Replacement Brake Shoes For Dexter 5,200lb Axle With 12"x 2" Electric Brakes
The Replacement Shoe and Lining Kit for Dexter 12" x 2" Electric Brake Assembly # DX28FR is actually designed to fit the 6,000lb and 7,000lb capacity Dexter Axles, and will not work for your 5,200lb axle, however I do have a solution. Instead, you'll want to use the Replacement Shoe and Lining Kit for 12" Manual-Adjust Brake Assembly # AKBRKR-S-12. These brake shoes are designed to work with 5,200lb-7,000lb axles, and is compatible with most manufacturers like AxleTek, Dexter, Lippert...

  • Replacement Brakes Shoes For a Dexter D-70, 7,000lb Trailer Axle on a Sandpiper 5TH Wheel Camper
A Dexter D-70 Trailer Axle # 8327834-EB will use the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-180-181. The Replacement Shoe and Lining Kit # DX28FR contains the replacement brake shoes for one hub. Often times it is easier to just replace the brake assembly than trying to replace just the brake shoes. This also ensures that you have all new components.

I do if your 2021 Dutchman Voltage 3915 Toy Hauler has Dexter 7,000 lbs brake assemblies like item # 23-180-181. If you do not have Dexter 7,000 lbs brake assemblies I will need you to email me back part numbers of what you do have because these are manufacturer specific. • Are Dexter Replacement Shoes for 7,000 Pound Axles Compatible with 6,000 Pound Brake Assembly
The Replacement Shoe and Lining Kit # DX28FR is compatible with Dexter 12" x 2" electric trailer brake assemblies for 7,000 lb axles. I checked with Dexter, and this is also the correct replacement for the 6,000 lb brake assemblies. I am not sure which specific brake assembly is on your 6,000 lb Lippert axle, but if you have either of these Dexter assemblies the replacement shoes will work for you. That being said, it is often a good idea to replace the entire brake assembly rather than...

  • Recommended Replacement Electric Trailer Brakes For 7000lb Dexter Axle
I would be happy to help! Since your Dexter axle has a 7000lb rating you will need the Electric Brake Assemblies # 23-464-465 for self adjusting brakes, or # 23-180-181 for standard brakes that you will need to adjust on occasion. I recommended the self adjusting versions as there is nothing to have to manually adjust in the future, but they are a bit more expensive so it will come down to how much you are looking to spend. I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take...

  • How To Find The Replacement Brake Shoes For a Dexter 7,000LB Axle
Unfortunately Craig, there are several different brake shoes used on Dexter 7,000LB trailer axles. I have a couple ways I can help you find exactly what you are going to need. First off the easiest way for you is by finding the serial number on your Dexter axle. This is typically on a sticker on the rear center of the axle or stamped into the tube about 18 inches from the hub. With this I can contact Dexter to see exactly what components you had installed from the factory. Otherwise stamped...

  • What Replacement Brake Shoes and Magnets do I need for Electric Drum Brakes?
I have some parts you need for your brakes. Unfortunately, all of our brake flanges fall under the pilot hole diameter of 4 inches. The largest one we have is 3" like the Trailer Brake Mounting Flange for 3-1/2" Axles, 12-1/4" Brake Assemblies # 4-50. This is a 4-bolt square pattern. As far as the shoes, I recommend using 2 of the Replacement Shoe and Lining Kit for Dexter 12" x 2" Electric Brake Assembly - 7,000-lb # DX28FR. For the magnets, the parts you need are the Replacement Trailer...

  • Replacement Brake Shoes for Dexter 7k Axle
Before you buy new brake shoes you will want to identify your axles or at least measure your drums. 7k axles could have a hub and drum with an 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern but so do larger axles. Check your axle tag to see if the capacity is listed or if there is a serial number. Dexter can identify it with the serial number. If you measure and find that you have 12" x 2" drums then these will fit. You also need to make sure you have manual brakes and not self-adjusting. The # DX28FR is designed...
