Installed a complete new axle from dexter the left side brake failed after less then 4,000 miles. I don’t have the time to deal with dexter so l ordered this 10” brake assembly from you. I installed the new assembly it’s working at the moment. I would not recommend this dexter brake assembly to anyone l just didn’t want to replace both brakes at this time as the right side only has a few thousand miles on it. If I have to repair the brakes in the future i’ll Go to a different style.
The Dexter brake assemblies were delivered within 5 days of ordering, a very efficient service along with tracking.
Downside, I had to disassemble the brake shoes off the backing plates and remove the "excessive grease" that was applied to the rub spots for the brake shoes and magnets.
Other than that it was breeze to install the brakes and be back into camping mode.

Changing these out was easier than I would have thought. Everything went together without a hitch. Pardon the pun. I am very happy with the quick shipping, ease of installation and performance of the brakes.

Product was as advertised. Form, fit and function were excellant. Assembly was a breeze, especially with the non-polarity of the wires. Just bolt them on, plug them in, adjust them, and go. Recommend buyers also purchase the 4 nuts that hold each backing plate onto the trailer's mounting flange. They do not come with the assemblies, and 7/16 x 20 (fine thread) nuts are getting difficult to come by. I went to my local Lowes to purchase 16 nuts and lock washers for the 4 assemblies I purchased.. They only had 17 nuts in the entire store.
Haven't been able to try them out yet, but they installed pretty easily, even for having never dealt with trailer brakes before. The only complaints I have are that the hardware and adjuster hole plugs were not included. Seriously, can't we add a buck on the price and throw them in?
I am refurbishing a vintage trailer and the previous owner had disconnected the brakes, not sure why. To be safe I decided to go brand new. These brake assemblies arrived in the factory package in good condition. They were easy to install and are working fine. Great service and fast shipping. The installation is not technically complex but takes some effort and time, especially on an old trailer. The installation videos provided by etrailer were very helpful. Don't forget the BP10-220 Adjuster Plugs and W80630 Brake Adjustment Spoon. You can find the nuts, washers, and waterproof electrical butt connectors at your local hardware store if needed. Also make sure you have what you need to regrease the bearings as you do the install.
The brake and drum assembly was exactly as described, and installed by simply bolting into place (soldered the magnet wires to assure maximum flow of electrical current and improved long term reliability). The individual components appear to be excellent quality, and the assembly was quickly and easily adjusted. We have no reason not to expect a long service life from this item.
About a year ago I replaced all my existing breaks on my camper with these. Swapping them out was painless (first time doing so.) After getting the adjustment correct on the brakes and the brake controller they’ve worked great! We have a lot of hills where we live and camp almost every weekend May-October and have had no issues. I will double check in the spring but as of when we parked for the winter there was no need for adjustment yet, plenty of pad left for another season or two!
A year ago I ordered 4 trailer brake assembly sets, brake drums and bearings. They arrived quickly and in good condition. Everything fit well and I had no problems when I towed my trailer across the country. I would definitely buy from Etrailer again.
First off, Etrailer is awesome. I ordered two pairs of loaded plates and hubs on Sunday night and they were on my door step by Wednesday!..
Three issues with the plates.
1. On one plate, the two wires from the magnet were about cut in two on the back side of the plate right as they come out of the plastic retainer. Must be getting pinched somehow in shipping.
2. Both left plates had lubriplate grease where the brake pads rub the backing plate and at all pivot points. Neither of the right side ones did, requiring disassembly of the new plates to grease the spots that should have been. (Somebody had a bad day on the assembly line!).
3. Product information led me to believe that new backing plate nuts would be included. They were not, but new lug nuts were included with the wheel bearing kits.
Only thing that I would suggest to Etrailer would be to carry replacement lock tabs for the bearings. Other than that, a couple of hours and brand new brakes & hubs all around. They are working great!

I bought these to add brakes to my utility trailer. erailer customer service was excellent.
They were able to price match a competitors price and the shipping was fast.
The brakes fit well and the install was easy.
Why only 4 stars then? Its a small thing but the brakes came with 4 nuts for the install but did not included the required lock washers. No problem I thought, so off to the local box store to get 7/16 washers. This proved futile, and It took me quite a while to finely locate the correct washers.
Added brakes to my 6X10 Wells Cargo enclosed trailer. They are working great. Easy install. As always, new trailer brakes take some time to wear in before you get full "lock - up" level braking. I'd buy these again. As always, great order and order fulfillment experience with etrailer.
Good quality product, zero issues after one year. Works as intended.
I bought a new car trailer with brakes on only 1 axle. etrailer had the exact same brakes for me to put on the second axle. These drum brakes were really easy to install, wire and adjust / re-adjust. I'd really recommend brakes on both axles if like me you're towing close to 7000lb. I've made a couple emergency stops around town, and didn't have the feeling i was being pushed by the trailer at all.
I'd also really recommend getting a high tech brake controller if you're buying one. I had a cheap one that really sucked, i had to constantly readjust brake power every time my speed varied (to stop being pushed by the trailer at speed or jerking to a stop at low speed). Annoying and dangerous IMO.
I removed and reconditioned the axles on my snowmobile trailer. Salt corrosion damaged the brake assemblies. The replacements assemblies from etrailer.com bolted right on and made short work of the brake repair.

Still working just fine.
brakes worked fine last summer, complete assemblies were a better deal than just replacing the shoes. my son in law and myself just combined an order this weekend (save shipping cost) on trailer tow mirrors from etrailer for our vehicles.

just came back from OBX 1400 miles-trailer brakes worked perfect.
The brake assemblies were in relatively good condition when received except for the actuator wires into the backer plate. The insulation on these were damaged presumably by a tool when inserted the associated strain relief. I repaired this with some RTV. Also, this was my first e-brake job and I was not impressed with Dexter customer support - non-existent.

Everything working out fine. Just had some brake service done and wear was fine. About 5K miles on the brake job.
The construction of the brake assembly makes it simple to install. Also the product info video describes the specifications.

E-trailer is a great company to deal with. The electric brake assemblies were exactly the same are the original which insured installation was smooth and easy. Support after the sale is unsurpassed. They follow-up after the sale with instructional video clips to insure there are no "hiccups". After installation of the new brakes, I road tested and calibrated the controller (a device that I previously purchased from E-trailer). E-trailer was referred to me by a friend. I will definitely use them again and will not hesitate to refer them to others. Lastly the assemblies are American made and the shipping was free, could not improve on service, product or value. Good solid brake shoes, fit on perfectly, in fact the first problem free repair job I have tackled in months. The camper is as unusual as the photo is of Alabama weather.

I have only put about 3,000 miles on it since then, if it brakes before I but 25,000 miles on it I would be unhappy with it. For this, a year is simply not enough
You need to provide video on the hardest and most often skipped instruction: undoing the 4 nuts rusted on the backing plate of brake assemblies. You are replacing these brake assemblies because the originals are worn out and rusted. The nuts are rusted on. You need rust buster spray ( like Kroil, PB blaster, etc) judicious heat and a lot of patience. It takes about 1 hour per assembly and that is not including downtime waiting for the rust buster to work.
