What Is The Torque Spec For The 4 Bolts On 10" Backing Plates

Updated 08/14/2023 | Published 08/11/2023

Question:

What is the correct torque spec assigned to the four studs for installing a new Dexter Brake Shoe Assembly to the axle flange housing? Referencing Dexter Part # 023-026-00 Left Hand Assembly, and #023-027-00 Right Hand Assembly respectively. This is a standard installation for a 3,500 lb. axle and a 10inch x 2 1/4inch sized brake shoe assembly. Dexter is very vague as to what this correct torque spec is, and I carefully read through their entire light duty manual for components within this size class.

There is not a "set in stone" torque spec for the brake flange bolts on the 10" backing plates like the Dexter # 23-26 and # 23-27. When we install these here at our shop in Missouri, we will go for 45-50 ft lbs.
