How to Tell Left and Right Side of a New Dexter Axle without Taking Off the Hubs or Brakes

Question:
I have new Dexter axles with electric brakes. How do I tell left from right without disassembling the hubs?

Expert Reply:
If you look at the backs of the brake assemblies there should be a hole where the magnet wires come out and a little opaque plastic strap. So if you are looking at the back of the assembly and those items are on the left then it is the left side (drivers side). If on the right then it is the right side (passengers side).
Or if you are unsure look for the Dexter stamp on the back of the brake assembly. There should be a part number there and I could look that up and tell you if it is a left or a right.
Once you know which is the left or right assembly then you would know which way the axle should face. If your Dexter axle has those wires sticking out from the actual axle beam then they would face towards the rear of the trailer.

So...if I'm looking under the trailer at assemblies that are already installed, then all of the wires and straps be on the rearward trailing side? NOT the forward leading side correct?
