etrailer Trailer Axles - e72GR

Highlights

  • 3,500-lb Capacity: Handles medium-duty loads for small campers or utility trailers.
  • 4" Drop Spindle: Lowers deck height for easier loading and unloading.
  • 89" Hub Face x 74" Spring Centers: Matches common trailer frame spacing for replacements.
  • Pre-Greased Idler Hubs: Ready to run with bearings, races, seals, and lug nuts installed.
  • 5 on 4-1/2" Bolt Pattern: Fits standard 13"-15" wheels for easy wheel replacement.
  • 2-3/8" Round Steel Tube: Strong, underslung design for steady, straight-line towing.

Features to know about

Easier Loading and Unloading: 4" Drop Axle Lowers Deck Height

A high deck can make hitching or loading a hassle. This axle’s 4" drop design brings the trailer frame closer to the ground, creating a lower deck height that makes it easier to load, unload, and stabilize your setup. The underslung spring seats are welded to the underside of the 2-3/8" diameter beam so the leaf springs (sold separately) mount beneath it, giving you that lower ride without sacrificing strength.

Smooth, Controlled Towing: Bent Beam for Even Tire Contact

Towing feels best when the trailer tracks straight and steady. The round axle beam is built with a slight bend to create the correct camber angle, so each tire maintains even road-to-tread contact across its width. This keeps the trailer stable and predictable on the road, with steady, in-line acceleration and even tire wear over time.

Ready to Roll: Pre-Greased Idler Hubs with Bearings and Seals

Getting an axle ready shouldn’t mean hours of packing bearings. This one comes complete with pre-greased idler hubs already fitted with bearings, races, seals, and lug nuts. The cast-iron hubs are tough and durable, while the built-in grease zerk on the Easy Grease spindles makes future servicing simple. It’s set up for 13" to 15" wheels with a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern and 1/2"-diameter wheel studs.

Built Strong for Long Hauls: 3,500-lb Capacity and CSA/QAI/SAE-N Certified

For trailers that rack up miles, durability matters. This 89" hub-face-to-hub-face axle with 74" spring centers is constructed from high-strength steel and welded using a patented process that’s 40% stronger at the spindles. Certified by CSA, QAI, and SAE-N, it meets rigorous safety and performance standards. With a 3,500-lb weight capacity, it’s a solid choice for dependable towing day after day.

Good quality axel and everything was included. Customer and technical support were both very helpful as well.

by:

Works great. Easy to purchase from Etra iler

by:

Axle and hubs arrived on time and undamaged, hubs easy to install on axle and install on trailer, will definitely use etrailer again

by:

Will install tomorrow then able to write a review

by:

I bought this axle and hubs to replace my broken and worn axle that was left on the side of the road. I had tried a quick fix, but the axle from a local store was too narrow. I found this trailer axle and hub kit and it was the correct assembly to fit my trailer. I was able to replace the worn-out axle and hubs. The new trailer axle and hubs handle my load of the trailer with two Jet Skis, along with a toolbox and extra gas cans. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. A year later I just came home from another trip with the trailer and everything is working great. I had a fabrication shop weld the spring mounts on the trailer axle when I replaced it and it tracks straight down the road. Not bad from a 75-year-old retired guy.

by:

Good price. Fast shipping. Exactly what I ordered. Already mounted to the trailer. Will be a repeat buyer.

by:

Looks to be a well made product but I was disappointed to see it was not US made.. I went with this axel because it is far superior to any I could find for small farm trailer use.. The hubs I got and measured are roughly 2-1/2 inches or 63mm and I could not find this in the specs.. My rims will fit but won't be hub-centric so they will be centered and ride on the lug nuts alone.. I am cutting a foot out of the center of the axle then splicing it together to narrow it for my application so no warranty for me.. This axle and pair of hubs with real bearing should last a very long time on the farm hauling dirt, mulch, stones, firewood..

by:

Easy to install and get my trailer back on the road. Delivery was a day or two later than expected but was still pretty fast.

by:

Had to return. Did not match up with old axel. Called customer service and to order special setup for older boat axel. Waiting on new order which I’ll have to weld kit on axel to match old set up. Thanks to customer service.

by:

With the info provided it was very easy to identify the correct axle for my trailer. Ordering was easy and quick. Delivery was as quoted.

by:

Delivery extremely quick. Very helpful custservice. Only thing….the axle and hub combo did NOT include new castle nuts, washer or new cotter pin.

by:

An excellent choice for my kayak trailer project. 2000# rated and a great match for the other components, springs, hangers and spring mounts.

  • Do You Have a 2-inch Square Axle Rated for At Least 3,000lbs and Has Idler Hubs?
Hi Brian, The best option I have for you based off the axle you were looking at, e72GR, and the other info provided would be the Dexter Boat Trailer Axle - 89" long part # DX47HR. It has a 4.5" drop, 89" hub face, and the square tube is 2" x 3". It is rated for 3,500lbs which is just over your 3k capacity you were wanting. The axle itself doesn't come with idler hubs, but you can pair it with the etrailer Idler Hub Assembly for 3.5K axles - 6 on 5 1/2 part # AKIHUB-655-35-K, these are...

  • Replacement Solution for Dexter 8-237 Hub
Hey Steve! I reached out to Dexter and I'm sorry to say that the 8-237 is an obsolete 2,800 lb hub. Unfortunately, there are no replacements available. The only solution is to replace the axle so you have modern hubs and replacement parts are readily available. You will need to get your hub face measurement and spring seat measurement to find the right replacement. You will also need to move up in capacity to a 3,500 lb since 2,800 lb axles are also obsolete. If you can add that measurement...

Hey Travis, unfortunately all of our 5.70 - 8 trailer tires, like the Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" Galvanized Wheel # am30156 are only rated for 65 MPH. So to get a higher rated wheel, you'd need to swap out your wheels to a different size. • Availability Of 3,500 lb Rated Overslung Axle
Hello Randy, thanks for reaching out. You are correct that all of the axles we offer are underslung. For example the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam # T3584F-EZ-8974 is 89" long and has 4" between the spring seats. So this will be our closest option to the specs you provided. To flip the axle you can use the Dexter Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00.

  • Replacement Axle, Hubs, and Leaf Springs for 2003 Stratos 185
Hi Jeremy; can you send me a picture of your axle tag? Assuming the axle manufacturer is still around that is the easiest way to identify a replacement. If it is missing or worn, you will need to measure. I'm going to need to know the capacity, length (hub face measurement), and spring center measurement. Then for the leaf springs you can get the flat measurement which will be the most accurate. I attached two help articles below. One shows how to measure your axle and the other shows...

Hello Bill, thanks for reaching out. We do offer the 5.30-12 tire/wheel combos like the Kenda # AM30850 which comes on a galvanized 5 on 4-1/2" wheel. As far as the axle, we do carry some 3.5K axles that may work for you, but I will first need to know the hub face (HF) length, and spring center (SC) length of the current axle. It will be critical that the new axle is identical to the current. There should be a tag on the axle that has this info, or if not you will have to measure. For...

For example, we offer a torsion axle rated for this weight, the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with 4" Drop E-Z Lube Spindles - 89" Long - 3,500 lbs, part # 8327812. That's going to depend on the specs of your trailer frame and current axle measurements. • Availability of 3,500 lb Trailer Axle that is 89 inches Long that Has 4 inch Drop
The etrailer axle part # e72GR matches everything you need but you didn't mention the spring seat to spring seat dimension you have which is only piece of the puzzle missing. The spring seat dimension is the attachment point for the axle to the trailer so this has to be exact. This axle has a 74 inch dimension for that and if that matches what you have it would work really well. All of the axles we have that match what you listed have this dimension as 74 inches so if you have something...
