Features to know about

Keep Control on Icy Hills and Snowy Roads: Polyolefin Fabric Restores Traction

When the road turns slick with snow or ice, these ISSE Classic Snow Socks give your tires the grip they need. The thick, tightly woven polyolefin fabric creates friction by capturing the thin layer of water that forms between your tires and the ice, eliminating that slippery barrier. Once the snow sticks to the fabric, it builds dry friction that keeps you in control without the vibration and noise that come with metal chains.

Quiet, Smooth Driving in Winter Conditions: Low-Profile Class S Design

You don’t have to trade comfort for traction. These SAE Class S snow socks are built for vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance and keep the ride smooth and quiet. The even, low-profile surface produces no vibration or rattling, so you can travel snowy or icy roads without the harsh feel of traditional chains. They meet Department of Transportation traction requirements in all states and are compatible with ABS and electronic stability control systems.

Ready When You Need Them: Lightweight and Easy to Handle

When snow starts falling, these lightweight socks are simple to slip over your tires. The stretchable fabric and built-in elastic bands help the socks center themselves as you drive, giving a snug fit without a struggle. They’re compact enough to keep in your trunk all winter and come with gloves and a tote bag for quick use and storage.

Built to Last Through Winter Conditions: Durable Polyolefin Construction

Made from long-lasting polyolefin, these tire socks stand up to heavy use on snowy and icy surfaces without tearing. They’re machine washable so you can clean them after every trip and use them again season after season. Designed in Europe to meet Colorado Department of Transportation specifications, they’re rated for speeds up to 30 mph and fit tires from 13" to 20".

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

by:

Living in Arizona we don't have a lot of use for these when we do need them it is critical that they can go on easily and work. This is one of the few places I could send my tire size and have the unit match pacifically for my tires which gives me peace of mind knowing that when I do have to use them they will fit.

by:

These things are great. So easy to put on & take off, gave me great traction going up & down steep snowy hill with small car & ordinary tires.

by:

Took over a year for a sufficiently snowy day to come, but these tire socks were quite straightforward to install. Didn't notice excessive slipping around while driving.

Really quick arrival. Sure they will meet all our needs for a 2017 Subaru. Thanks so much!

by:

It is a new product,so time will tell. As I drive a Subaru, I really don't
expect to ever use them, but I'm in Ca and the cops rule.

by:

Five star is for the service I received and the fact that the product arrived in a timely manner and fit as advertised. I tried them on the car and they were a piece of cake to install.

Have not had to use them. I have a Buick Envision with AWD and all season tires, which does not permit the use of chains. I bought the snow socks as insurance and to meet the requirement that I have chains onboard even though I am not required to use them.

by:

Shipping arrived exactly when predicted.

by:

I have not used the product yet, but they look exactly as represented on the website. Small enough to keep in the trunk storage compartment through the winter. Etrailer had them shipped and delivered within 3 days. Always great service!

by:

I ordered these just to have on hand as we prepare for a winter trip to the southwest. I can't really testify as to how they work because I have yet to use them but etrailer is once again a pleasure to work with.

by:

First, these are for a trip in January, so I have not used them yet, but what I can say at this point is that I'm very happy to have found something that will work on my Forester which has no clearance for chains or most cables. The Forester is great for snow, but nothing is great on black ice, so these will provide some added safety if needed. Etrailer's excellent online guidance led me to these. Thank you.

by:

Wow. I was hoping these would work as reviewed and they did! Living on a hill, these socks saved me from sliding all the way home. My tires lost traction on a snowy hill; I pulled over and relatively quickly (and easily!) slipped the snow covers over my tires. Once on, I completed my drive down the snow covered road in control. My husband's going to get a pair (he was impressed how well they worked) and I plan to get these for my adult children. Well worth the cost and peace of mind knowing I have these in my car.

by:

Watch the sizing folks. The web site said to get size 74 for our 225/60/18 tires but when they arrived, the size chart on the package said size 70 was needed. I hope this was fixed on the web site. etrailer was very good about understanding the problem and returning the original package, sending me a pre-paid return label for the UPS guy. I ordered the new ones after they received the originals and credited my account. Easily a five star rating if it were not for the step of returning and reordering.

We bought tire socks for our Subaru because the owners manual says NOT to use chains. But, when snowing in the mountains of Oregon, chains are sometimes required. We'll probably be fine without, being all wheel drive, but the police don't think so. There are hefty fines for driving without at least having chains in your possession.

by:

Really great price and fast delivery.

by:

I live in Dallas, TX so we don’t get snow but ice and sleet and available a couple times a year. I put these on my Subaru Outback and was able to drive around the local neighborhood streets that were iced over. Stopping went well a and starting did not have any wheel spin.

The advantage that these snow socks have over a standard tire chain is that they are easy to install which you can see from the sample video and they won't ever damage the vehicles wheels.

  • Should I Get Snow Socks, Cables, Or Chains For My 2022 Subaru Forester?
The ISSE Classic Snow Socks # TCH70 will meet the Department of Transportation requirements in all states, but they will not be very effective if you do end up hitting snow. Due to this, I tend to steer people away from this option and towards one that will get you better traction when you need it most. The Titan Chain Diagonal Alloy Cable Snow Tire Chains # TC343DC will do a much better job than the socks will, but even these are really only intended for one season. With that said, I...

It's pretty much like wrapping a towel around your tires and hoping for the best (oversimplification, but that's about how helpful they are). The owner's manual as you stated recommends against using tire chains but does suggest alternative options which is where the snow socks come into play. I cannot make any legally biding statements in regards to what you can and cannot do to your vehicle but by the definition laid out in the owners manual the snow socks would be permissible therefore not voiding the warranty. • Can Tire Chains Be Used on 2018 Subaru Outback
According to the owner's manual for your 2018 Subaru Outback, tire chains shouldn't be used because of limited clearance to the inside of the wheels, however using Class S cable chains like # PW1042 on the front wheels only would be acceptable. I'd also recommend using rubber adjusters like part # PW105 to ensure that the cables stay tight to the tires. I've linked to an install video that you might find helpful.

The ISSE Hybrid Snow Socks # TCH70 referenced in your question do indeed have a maximum speed rating of 30 mph. The speed limit is in place because going at a higher speed can cause the sock (or chains or cables) to start to come off of the tire due to the speed.
