Snow Traction Device Recommendations for 2015 Chevrolet Impala

Updated 11/13/2020 | Published 11/11/2020

Question:

What is the definition of light snow and deep snow in regards to snow chains? Im going to Gatlinburg in January and Im being told to get snow chains in case of snow. I drive a 2015 Chevy Impala so any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

We have rated our tire socks and tire cables as traction devices that work best in light snow. These traction devices are good for when you're driving on a paved road that has maybe an inch or less of snow on it.

Tire chains that we have labeled as good for deep snow offer a heavier traction than the socks and cables but are not as heavy duty has a typical off-road driving chain.

For your 2015 Chevrolet Impala I recommend either the ISSE Hybrid Snow Socks # TCH70 or the Konig K-Summit Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # th02230k45 because both of these traction devices allow for the limited clearance your vehicle offers around the tire. Based on what I found in the Impala owner's manual, Chevrolet does not recommend installing chains on the tires of your car. The snow socks are a non-chain traction device and the Konig K-Summit chains grip your tire's treads rather than wrap all the way around the tire. Both of the devices I have linked will fit your Impala if you have tires sized 235/50-18, 245/40-20, or 245/45/19.

I have linked review videos of both of these chains for you.
