Dimensions

Stacked-plate heat exchangers have long been considered the most effective type of oil or transmission coolers, primarily because of their increased surface area. Allowing fluid to spread out over this larger surface area decreases the time required for heat transfer to take place. As a result, plate coolers typically manage to cool a greater volume of fluid faster than tube-and-fin, or even plate-and-fin, varieties. Add to that a powerful tornado fan that ensures optimum airflow at all times, no matter the environment, and you have a super-efficient heat exchange unit.

Awesome remote transmission oil cooler. Attached at the rear under belly of a Toyota FJ Cruiser, 2007.

2007 Ford F-150

Awesome product! Received it yesterday. Custom fabricated brackets for it to mount below my auxiliary trans cooler on my 07 fx4 f150. Installed the on off switch on out side of transmission and the fan works great!

by:

Mounted between fuel tank and transfer case. Larger 6.0 cooler would go in front of intercooler. Dont need anymore heat there. This was cheaper and works great in this position. Wrapped exhaust near the lines as they have to dump out on right side of trans. and I did not want any hard 90 degree turns with all this extra plumbing. Keeps temps way lower. Also installed oversize/cooler pan.
FYI using temp sensors in pan and in valve body. Pan is regularly 30 degrees cooler than valve body.

2010 Toyota Highlander

excellent quality product, I have intalled the fan/cooler on a toyota highlander 2010 without tow package not infront of the a/c radiator but exactly at the same place as toyota install the oem transmission cooler just behind the right fog light. I have a travel trailer of 3300 lbs dry, (4000lbs gross weight) and before my transmission temperature was around 215-220 F with a standard transmission cooler(without a fan) infront of the a/c radiator, but now with my new derale fan cooler, its around 180F after a long climb. I am totally satisfied. I had to build a bracket to fit the cooler in this tiny space behind the fog light, it took me 6-7 hours .

by:

Easy install, and works as specified. Would put on future high performance vehicles

by:

Have not installed it yet, but looks impressive! This this is like a beast cooler. Will be installing it this week before a long distance rv trip.

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler with Fan for 2012 Chevy Suburban
I spoke with my contact at Derale and he said that your 2012 model Chevy Suburban 1500 uses 1/2 inch transmission lines so the Derale Hyper-Cool Transmission Cooler # D13960 won't be the best option. For your Suburban you will instead want the Derale Hyper-Cool # D15960 which is essentially the same cooler with fan but designed to work with the 1/2 inch lines. An adapter isn't needed as the compression fitting that comes included with this cooler should work perfectly. A transmission...

  • Transmission Cooler for 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
It's definitely not abnormal for your transmission fluid to heat up while towing, especially when you're going up hills that force the truck to work a lot harder. To help with this adding a transmission cooler like you mentioned is a great idea. For your 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD I highly recommend the Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit w/ Fan # D13960. This cooler will do a great job of improving the performance and function of your transmission with its reversible tornado...

  • Should 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 Transmission Cooler be Bypassed for Derale Cooler Kit?
Hey Pete, thanks for reaching out! I'm not entirely sure what the size is of your existing hoses, but Derale has the Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit # D13960 as coming with hoses that are the same size as your OEM hoses so you won't have to worry about compatibility. All of our coolers are aftermarket and should only be used in conjunction with an OEM cooler. These won't be sufficient enough on their own so you definitely don't want to bypass your existing cooler. Did your...

  • Best Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2012 Chevy Suburban
One really efficient and larger transmission cooler would be all that you'd need. In theory, the more the better but in reality one really good one would be all that you'd need. The Derale Hyper Cool part # D13960 is a stacked plate style of cooler with a built in fan which would be more than adequate. The stacked plate coolers are by far the most efficient and the fan ensures that you'd always have enough airflow to cool the fluid. It also allows you to mount basically anywhere as it...

  • Is Derale Transmission Cooler a Good Option for 2020 Toyota 4Runner
The Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit # D13960 would be an outstanding choice to add to your 2020 Toyota 4Runner with a 4.0L V6 engine. The reason is because it's a stacked-plate cooler, which means it gives you the most surface area with which to cool fluids. As for mounting, there isn't a recommended or suggested spot on specific vehicles for these types of coolers. They are designed in order to fit in any location where there is space, and an experienced installer will...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
You mentioned wanting the best cooler for your 2003 Chevy Silverado. The best, as in the most amount of cooling, is going to be a remote cooler with its own fan like # D13960. It does not matter where this cooler gets mounted because its fan offers the optimum amount of cooling all the time. Otherwise for a standard cooler that would require air flow I recommend # D13105. Its large surface area will provide plenty of cooling for your trucks transmission. To avoid cutting and flaring lines...

  • Can a Transmission Cooler be Used to Bypass the Factory Cooler on a 2007 Hummer H3
It is usually the other way around with factory transmissions coolers in radiators. By that I mean that normally you see a problem with the factory coolers, not the aftermarket replacements. It is possible to bypass the factory cooler in the radiator by blocking off the input/output locations for the transmission cooler on the radiator. You would then need to mount the largest possible cooler that you can get to fit or install a remote cooler with its own fan. The Series 9000 Plate-Fin...

The Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets part # D13503 is an excellent supplemental transmission cooler. However, I would not use this cooler as the sole source of cooling your 2008 Acura MDX's transmission fluid. This transmission cooler is designed for supplemental use meaning, it is more or less to aide the factory transmission cooler (radiator) not replace. This transmission cooler is really not capable of being responsible for the sole source of cooling...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a Street Rod with Limited Air Flow and Space
Since you plan to install a transmission cooler in an area that won't get direct air flow you will want one with a fan. Since you said space is a premium you would want a smaller one. The Derale part # D13960 would be a great option as long as you have the room for it. It measures 13" wide x 10" tall x 5-5/8" deep. This stacked plate cooler is incredibly efficient and would work well as it has a fan that can flow 500 cfm.

I verified with my contact at Derale that the Derale Hyper-Cool Transmission Cooler, # D15960, will work to bypass your radiator and cool your transmission fluid. One important thing to consider when installing a transmission cooler is the size of your transmission lines. It is typically recommended to install this with your factory cooler to assist in the cooling process. I would not recommend this if you plan on doing some heavy towing. The cooler on this setup is a stacked plate design which is the most efficient style on the market and the fan will flow 500 cfm of air through the cooler to keep the temperatures down. The bigger the diameter the more fluid can flow through it. Either are a great option for your truck.
