Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a Street Rod with Limited Air Flow and Space
Updated 06/17/2015 | Published 06/15/2015 >
Question:
Space is at a premium in my 1938 Ford 2 Door Deluxe coupe. I am moving the radiator to the front of the vehicle, up 7 inches into the nose, having a custom radiator made to fit without a tranny cooler, I am planning to move the tranny cooler under the car, or possible in the front wheel well. First, will I need a cooler with a fan, what size cooler and fan do you recommend for a C4, and the size of the tranny lines. Thank you for your help.

Since you plan to install a transmission cooler in an area that won't get direct air flow you will want one with a fan. Since you said space is a premium you would want a smaller one.
The Derale part # D13960 would be a great option as long as you have the room for it. It measures 13" wide x 10" tall x 5-5/8" deep. This stacked plate cooler is incredibly efficient and would work well as it has a fan that can flow 500 cfm.
