2009 GMC Acadia

I installed this cooler on my 2012 Acadia. Although the Acadia has the tow package, the transmission tends to run hot when towing a 3000 pound trailer. The Derale 12903 appears to be a good choice for the Acadia; it's about a quarter the size of the radiator, so there's plenty of room to install it.

My only complaint about this unit is the supplied retainers, which pass through the cooler, AC condenser and radiator and are held in place by clips on the back side of the radiator. The first time I put any pressure on the cooler three of the clips failed. I replaced the supplied retainers with cable ties, which worked much better. I ran the cable ties through the cooler and condenser fins, then back through the condenser fins and the cooler's mounting brackets. I did use the pads supplied with the unit to keep the cooler spaced away from the condenser.

Since the cooling fans block access to the back side of the radiator, I took the condenser loose from the radiator, which allowed me to get to the back side of the condenser. I then attached the cooler to the condenser alone.

Installation required removal of the Acadia's front fascia and a few other parts, such as the plastic brace that supports the upper part of the fascia. I ran the cooler's hoses over the top of the condenser and radiator, which required putting a small notch in the plastic brace. I used the Derale 13035 adapter to connect to the radiator transmission cooler. By using this adapter, it's not necessary to cut the factory transmission lines. The auxiliary cooler can be quickly taken out of the system if necessary just by pulling the adapter out of the radiator, taking the hose off the factory transmission line and plugging the transmission line back into the radiator.

I haven't yet towed with the car, but the cooler seems to be working quite well. Prior to installing the cooler, both the engine coolant and transmission fluid temperatures were 90C (195F) at highway speeds (according to my scan tool). Now the transmission fluid temperature has dropped to 75-80C (165-175F) while the coolant temp is unchanged. I assume it will reduce the temperature while towing much more than that.

Great cooler upgrade for my 1997 GMC Yukon! Little delivery damage, but was so easy to bend those fins back to original shape so no worries!
Nice that you had proper dimension measurements online, so it was easy to figure out what kind I can fit in my truck. Complete kit had everything I needed to get it done!
Modified old cooler bracket little bit and that was it. Works great!

It’s working great! Installed transmission temperature gauge also and temp is keeping between 110-130F on any driving conditions. Looks like new, no corrosion any kind, very happy with this one!

2010 Chevrolet Avalanche

I just installed this on my chevy avalanche.
Flipped the bottom brace around in order to mount to.
The hardest part is getting the hoses on the cooler and over the return line.
I ended up getting a 90 deg quick connection coming from the radiator instead of using the one I got from etrailer. This keeps the hose from bending as much.
Also purchase the installation kit with a hose as you will need an extra hose.
After install I wish I would have went with the next bigger unit which is 10 high instead of 7 1/2 as I had plenty of room.

I have always loved etrailer and their service. Once again order another of these coolers. Drop my temp from 240 to 170-190 also remember to order extra hose, the adapter if needed for your vehicle make, mount kits. Love it. Perfect this one is on a 07 GMC Yukon XL always add an extra cooler on your 1500 gmc or chevys they help out so much for them.

What is the rated towing weight for a 1999 Honda CR-V? Does a trannie cooler install fairly easily on the Honda CR-Vs? What is the most effective mounting location for the finned cooler? How does the addition of a trannie cooler effect the volume of fluid and fluid level reading on the dip stick? Thanks for your time and expertise.

The towing capacity question is a loaded one. For that, I would refer back to the owners manual. It can vary depending on engine, transmission, drive configuration and more. Furthermore, Honda has some very specific guidelines regarding towing so it's best to defer to them. Installing a trans cooler on a full size truck can be easier because of the extra space, but it is not particularly difficult on any vehicle. We actually have a video of a cooler being installed on a 2006 C-V. We remove the front bumper cover for the video, but you may find you do not need to. (See link). The most effective location will be in front of both the radiator and the A/C condenser. As you move behind each cooling device, the efficiency diminishes. We put ours in front of everything on the 2006 in the video. For fluid capacity, plan on an extra 1/2 quart. Depending on cooler size and construction, it will vary some, but 1/2 qt. is a good rule of thumb.

2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

I bought this cooler for my 2007 Chevy avalanche LTZ 4X4 with 5.3 motor. I also bought the adapter the adapter D13035 for my truck as well. It was a quick and easy install. I just got it installed on 2/2/2018 and took the truck for a drive and it has dropped my transmission temp at least 40 degrees. It took me around 40 min to install. Very Happy with this new addition to my truck. FYI if you buy this unit to make it easier i would order an extra Line because the one line will be cutting close to reaching location.

Very good product works well. The reason for 3 stars, it's NOT a direct fit as described when I purchased the product. The transmission lines are fitted to the A/C condenser so they had to be cut and needed to buy a flaring tool to flare the cut transmission lines. I look at the product online and now there's a note stating altering OEM lines may be needed. This wasn't there when I purchased it which delayed my install for another day.

It appears that my transmission temp dropped about 40-60° adding this cooler. The hose was pretty hard to attach to the cooler, even with lubrication. The hose was also to small for my vehicle so I had to source other parts to make it work. I installed it on a 2017 explorer.

All parts were as they were stated. I have not towed my boat for any distance yet to see how well it lowers the temp of my transmission. Idid have to buy some more because I came up about 6" to short.

1999 Jeep TJ

Hose barbs on the radiator are 0.4 inches, not 0.345. With the added raised portion it's almost 0.5 inches. It's basically impossible to force a 0.335 ID hose over a barb that big. Hopefully I was sent the wrong cooler with the kit, I could only get them on a little past the raised section. The hose will probably split too. You can see how little I was able to push them on in the photo, I bent some fins from slipping while pushing them on. Like I spent 30 minutes trying to force them on with lots of transmission fluid as lubricant.

The hose size is right for the truck. But I'm super glad I didn't order the adapter to the truck radiator if this is the quality of their radiators. Two male to male SS 3/8 inch hose barbs worked perfectly to hook the hoses to the existing line after cutting it.

The hose clamps were almost too big also. They are almost completely tightened down to where the threads stopped. The two in the photo are mine because I needed 6 and the kit only has 4.

It's almost like I was sent partially a kit for 13/32 or 3/8 inch hose. With only the hose being correct.

2004 Dodge Dakota

good product form a great company !
my only complaint is this was listed as for my specific truck, but the "insta-dapt" supplied doesn't fit the Dodge truck of my year. even doing my research ahead of time, it seems to be hit or miss whether it would fit as some of them come with 5/16 fittings and some (like mine) come with 9/16 fittings. it doesnt matter the engine size, even other 3.7L dodge trucks of the same year have 5/16 fittings... I think Dodge made a change middle year, but never let the consumer know as mine is a late year '04.
no dig deal as I was able to assemble it anyways and got it up and running great and both the radiator and trans are running much cooler now !
I attached the D12902 to the bumper as you will see in attached images.

Removing the front bumper/grill on my Odyssey was a must! Installation was pretty much straight forward once you confirm the feed, and return connection points. Mounting the actual cooler to the front radiator was the easiest part of the job. My Odyssey made two 650 mile trips pulling 2050 lbs with no problems so I’m very happy with the cooler!

I am not sure if the gauge you're referring to is displaying engine coolant temperature or if you have one that shows transmission temperature. The easiest way to determine the return line on your 1999 Ford F-150 transmission is to start the truck, shift into drive but do not go anywhere. Transmissions should operate at right around 200 degrees ideally. The 215 degrees is a little concerning as 220 is recognized to reduce power and the life of the transmission, so I do recommend adding a transmission cooler to your truck. Out of the Derale # D13503 and # D12903 I recommend going with the former over the latter on your 2019 Ford F-150. Reason being that the part D13503 is a plate-fin cooler which is more efficient than the D12903 which is a tube-fin cooler.
