The MORryde Safe-T-Rail open dimensions

Essential Measurements

If you are eying the Safe-T-Rail and think you'd really like to upgrade your trailer with this unique design, the next thing you need to eye is the side of your RV. This will work perfectly on many trailers, but there are some situations that might make it incompatible or require some extra work during installation.

The MORryde Safe-T-Rail bottom bracket detail

The Safe-T-Rail needs to be mounted on a completely flat surface that is free of any obstructions. The bottom bracket will hug the corner of the door frame at the bottom (as shown). So check the following things:

The MORryde Safe-T-Rail install measurements

  1. There should be no trim or obstructions, including around a fold-out step well. The image above shows obstructions, such as trim around the step well, that will prevent installation.
  2. Slide out should be at least 4-1/4" away from the outer edge of the door. This image shows the trim from a slide out is far enough away to allow installation.
  3. Windows and awning arms should be at least 2-1/2" from the door frame. The photo above shows an awning bracket that is too close to the door trim, so the Safe-T-Rail cannot be installed here.
  4. There should be no obstructions within 1-7/8" under the door to fit the bottom bracket. This image shows the step well is far enough away. If the trim along its left side can be removed, it will be OK to install the Safe-T-Rail here.

If you have rubber seals or trim that can be removed, that's OK. Just know you will need to be ready with the tools to cut and seal those areas to prevent any water damage.

When you remove your old grab handle, you're going to need to be ready to repair the screw holes to prevent any water damage. This can be done with some simple silicone caulk or sealant. You'll also need caulk or butyl tape to seal the screw holes when mounting the Safe-T-Rail to keep moisture out.

There are 2 upper mounting brackets included. The longer bracket may be needed to cover up screw holes from your old grab handle. This not only helps to keep out moisture, but it makes sure the outside of your RV still looks nice. If the shorter bracket covers any old screw holes, the longer one is not used.

by:

Much more sturdy than the original trailer rail. Still some play but not enough to loose your balance. However I could not find any instructions on how to remove and cut the aluminum molding along the bottom where the rail passes through on my 2026 Phoenix 381 DBL. I managed though. ;) I ended up having to cut across the top of the trim with wire cutters to make room for the rail.

by:

We’d been looking at these since the Tampa RV Show 2 years ago, but I was hesitant to try it because, based upon the installation instructions, I would have to cut a piece of trim beside the door. Finally decided to give it a shot. We couldn’t be more pleased with this product. Installation was far easier than I had expected, and the Safe-T-Rail is far more sturdy than the previous hand/grab rail that we had. Highly recommend the product and eTrailer.

We absolutely love the Safe T Rail. Easily, one of the best MorRyde products in the market. So much better than the standard door hand handles.

by:

Installation was straightforward and the handrail seems sturdy. Really like the minimal profile when retracted against the trailer. Price at etrailer was competitive with other sellers and delivery was fast.

The handrail looks great on your camper, Scot! I agree with you with how sturdy it looks. Hope it help getting in and out of the camper better and easier for you.

by:

Awesome product. Should come standard on all Rv’s. Easy to install. I put one on both doors to my 5th wheel. Makes the stairs much safer with a rail as long as the stairs are. Super simple deployment. Secure during travel.

@Perry Nice! A lot more stable than the usual swing out RV handle?

by:

Installing this on a $100,000 RV I am very disappointed. Feel the product is cheaply made, when walking from the bottom step, the first three steps the railing it moves due to the design and the material the product is made of the last to steps are okay but my original railing did that which is the only reason I gave it two stars. I WOULD NOT BUT THIS ITEM

by:

The railing seems to be very good quality and functions perfectly. Installation was well documented on the instructions and did not take much time. Very happy with it.

by:

I installed the Safe-T-Tail on the side of the trailer. It works well but contrasts with the white side of the trailer. The installation went easily and is very secure.

by:

Clear instructions, easy installation. I did have to shorten the upper bolt slightly to keep it clear of the awning arm, and inserted the bolt from the door side since there wasn’t room to insert from the awning side. Works smoothly and has a very solid feel!

by:

I recently installed the Safe-T-Rail on my 2018 Imagine. The installation took approximately 1.5 hours with the majority of time spent on cutting the trim. The YouTube video instructions were outstanding. I am really impressed with the quality and workmanship. The hand rail is wife approved and I highly recommend it especially if you have problems climbing the steps on your trailer.

by:

The hand rail is perfect for my wife. The instructions leave a whole lot to be desired. 20 minutes turned into 4 hours. We had to modify to get the rail to attach to the trailer. But we did it. And it looks good and gives a lot of stability for my wife.

by:

Great stable solution to the wobbly handrail that the rv came with

by:

We LOVE the Safe-t-rail. It makes a huge difference going in and out of our 5th wheel. I feel so much safer with it. Opening the door is even easier. If you are thinking about getting one, just do it. You won't regret it!!!!

by:

We have yet to install the handle but will do so this evening. I’m so impressed with how fast it was delivered. I ordered it st 9:09 pm last night, it had already shipped by 9:46 pm and was delivered to my door step around 11:45 am today. Talk about service. We’ve never had any complaints either any of our orders from etrailer.com. Thanks for the exceptional service.

Good luck on the install, Teresa! Let me know how it goes once you're done and how it went!

by:

Good instructions and quality material. Increased handrail length by 3’ compared to old handle. Says it’s made to pair with Moryde steps, but works great with exterior folding steps too.

by:

Received the order in two days. The shipping box was damaged but no damage to handrail or lost items. I do not feel the damaged packaging was the fault of etrailer.
Very pleased with the quality of the handrail. No issues with the installation of the handrail on my truck slid-in camper. It is very sturdy. A great addition to our camper.

Glad to hear that, Bill! When do you get to take the camper out next?

by:

My fiance purchased your torklift stairs for our truck camper. I purchased this hand rail to help with balance issues on the stairs. It's works perfectly. I would have given this 5 stars but a nylon washer and a nut were missing. The second washer and bolt we're just loose in the box. It was an easy fix. Altogether though I love the steps and the handrail. Easy to open and close. Sturdy enough to feel safe.

by:

Very sturdy, well built. Install isn't really hard but directions are weak and could be much clearer. When drilling holes into a trailer clarity is important.

Love it. A big upgrade over what we had

by:

This rail will work nicely with my new Brophy 4 step just added to my 1999 Lance 1010 truck camper. My wife and I will appreciate the extra safety factor.

by:

Went on easy great asset for us!

by:

Fast shipping easy install I have had campers for many years I believe this might be the best add on yet has made getting into the camper so much easier used the first weekend showed it to the camper’s next to me they was very impressed

by:

We feel much more confident walking up and especially down the steps. Also there is no foam to wear down as there was on the original swing out grab bar. Simple to deploy and stow.

by:

Seemed a little shaky at first. Our confidence did build after a few uses
A lot better than the original grab bar

by:

Great product, easy install, fast shipp ing

Hello Dan, Yes, you can still use the MORryde Safe-T-Rail # MR54BR on your 2003 Montana 2955RL, even if the bottom 12 inches of trim are mostly unsupported. The key is to make sure you're mounting both brackets into solid material, and it sounds like you've got good structure just above that trim. It’s okay to install the bottom bracket a bit higher than the directions suggest if that’s where the support is, the rail will still function as intended. If you're unsure about the strength...

I spoke with a MORryde tech and found that the 36" measurement would be pretty close to the end of the leg adjustment slots but that you would still have 2-4" of adjustability.
