Updated 03/20/2026 | Published 03/14/2026

Question:

How wide is the support piece that attaches to the trailer? I have 2 3/4 inches from door frame to awning support. Will it fit?

Hey Bob! The wall bracket on the MORryde Safe-T-Rail # MR54BR is 2-1/8" wide. Since you have 2-3/4" it will be able to fit in your available space.

Are you upgrading your hand rail or did something happen to the original?

Upgrading, I like the extension down the full length of the stairs.

@BobH me too, the Safe-T-Rail # MR54BR is a really nice addition to any trailer. If you need anything else don't hesitate to reach out!

@BobH Added this to my motorhome a couple of years ago because of the steep staircase coming out and my wife and I love it. Makes it easier and safer to get in and out of the coach. I installed it in less than an hour and would buy it again if the need arose.

I agree with Robin H, the bracket will fit on your RV. But here's a tip for others that I'd like to pass on. My wife's sister liked our Safe-T-Rail, & bought one for her travel trailer. When I installed it for her, I found that her door frame and awning arm were not completely parallel with each other. She had room to spare at the bottom of the bracket (& door frame), but at the top of the bracket, the clearance between the door and awning arm had disappeared. I placed a dull, worn scraper underneath the bracket and tapped with a hammer until the top of the bracket had squeezed itself between the door frame and awning arm. Since the top of the bracket is only there to cover the holes left by the top mounting point of the original folding handle, & the movable part of the Safe-T-Rail is narrower than the bracket anyway, her Safe-T-Rail operates just as easily as ours does. If you run into a situation like this (RVs are notorious for factory mistakes such as hers), this method may work. The top of her bracket was sort of rounded off anyway, and the bracket easily drove in between the two frames.

Safety rail works really nice installed very easily. However, my wife has have some mobility problems and we needed to have a railing that was much more sturdier on the door side so we manufactured one attached to the steps extending up able to be removed easily if there were one manufactured for the door side I would’ve bought it, but there isn’t is this a need.
