Product works as advertised! Keeps my Swagman XTC-2 bike rack well secured to my trailer hitch. Four Stars!

I would have given it 5 out of 5 stars if it had come standard with the bike rack. I don't think this should be an extra cost item on a pricey bike rack like this one.

I have a 2nd bike now, so the rack and lock are getting plenty of use. - However, I still believe the lock should be a standard feature that comes with the bike rack.Cheers

This works beautifully on my Swagman XTC-2 carrier, making it very stable with this locking hitch pin in place. Very pleased. Indeed, as noted on some of the other comments, the shaft is quite long and does extend a bit beyond the side of my 2" receiver when installed, making it conceivably subject to being hack-sawed off by a determined thief. My (rather simplistic) solution...stacking steel washers between the side of the receiver where the bolt exits, all the way to the locking barrel...it takes about 25 or so. Cheap but effective.

Dont stack washers or anything else in there! I just bought the same lock and thought about that too. But if you do, a thief can simply thread the pin out with a socket and the lock will pop right off due to all of the washers pushing against the hitch and the lock mechanism.

We purchased everything we need to transport our bike;, hitch, bike rack, locking hitch pin, hitch cover. Everything shipped quickly and was of the highest quality. Since we are newbies to transporting bicycles, the product descriptions and ratings were incredibly helpful! We are using all products purchased and are more than satisfied with them, as well as the ease of purchasing from etrailer.

I just got the swagman xtc-2 and I'm very optimistic about this product. It seems to be very well constructed. As for etrailer, I am very pleased with their service and level of communication. I will purchase from this company again.

by:

Lock worked great and provides another level of security.

by:

Received the bike rack shipment today and did a partial assembly, following the easy to understand instructions. Plan on completing the installation on the vehicle tomorrow.

We were concerned on possible missing parts as the package was badly damaged
- see pics - but all were there and we are very satisfied.

Purchased the bike carrier a year ago. While we are not avid hard-core bike riders, it is very nice to be able to take our bikes with us when we do go up in to the mountains or over to the beach for the weekend! This product fit our needs perfectly. We have it installed on a VW Tiguan and have had no issues with it.

by:

They say locks keep honest people out. I'm not even sure this could keep out a Sunday school teacher. First, the pin itself is machined from a regular old bolt (very soft steel) and not hardened at all. Second, this thing is about 2" wider than it needs to be, allowing someone with bolt cutters or a hacksaw to easily access the shank to make quick work out of it. This does not provide any more peace of mind to me over the standard anti-rattle pin with a threaded shank, since a thief would still need a wrench. As always though, prompt delivery from eTrailer.

by:

I found this product to be as advertised. Solid, well made. I chose this one, because I needed to be sure my Bacchetta Giro recumbent would fit it. The product was easier to install than it was for me to figure how to adjust it, so that my recumbent would fit it — mainly because of the seat and the other gear I had on the bike. I didn’t want to have to remove/move any gear every time I wanted to transport the bike. But once I figured that out, the setup is golden. It’ll be easy to get the bike on and off. Also, because I have only one recumbent to transport, I can access the hatchback without taking the bike off the rack! Thumbs up!

by:

I'm using it as a replacement hitch pin/lock with a Swagman QUAD 2+2 rack and it works well without issues!

by:

2012 Juke while traveling 1500 miles the bikes stayed put. After going about 800 miles we needed to tighten all the bolts again. This stopped the bikes and rack from swaying back and forth. The bikes and rack did bounce somewhat but with all the tie downs and the hook that were provided they never left the rack. The rack was easy to put together. Bikes were very easy to lift on and off. We can also use the same rack with our truck with the attachment that came with it.

by:

After misplacing our threaded Hitch pin that came with the bike rack we had purchased from etrailer I made a call.
Rep helped look up a replacement.
I thought it was a bit pricey but ordered it anyways!
To my surprise it came with a locking end and two keys.
Now I now understood the cost!
So appricative of the security plus anti rattle!
Another great purchase from etrailer! We also purchased previously a ladder rack for our truck! Happy customer who will definitely return again!??

by:

I am very pleased with the Swagman XTC-2 platform bike rack. I can easily mount two bikes and there is plenty of room to clear the rear mounted spare tire on my 2009 Toyota Rav4. There is 6 1/2" of clearance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear mounted spare tire cover on my vehicle. I can fully open my rear door when the bikes are not on the rack. I would order from this website again.

I'm totally new to trailering/hitches, and I learned a ton from this site. Hopefully this comment will help someone in a similar situation.

Anyway, two things attracted me to this product: anti-rattle and locking.

Anti-rattle apparently means it's a threaded bolt instead of a smooth pin. I think this is important for my application - a bike carrier, being driven long distance at highway speed then through areas with SUPER rough roads.

Be aware: Cylindrical locks are not highly secure. (google for "pen open kryptonite")

The pin is also *really* long, and that makes it vulnerable to cutting. (bolt cutters, hacksaw, whatever) But it's good enough for what I'm after - making sure someone needs to jump through at least a couple hoops to steal my bike while I am in the restroom or whatever.

Also - at least for my bike carrier, there is another pin that needs to be locked to provide security. A visit to my local auto parts store got me what I needed, but of course it's another key to keep track of and I .

A set like 2848DAT, but with an anti-rattle pin, would have been ideal for me.

In my picture, on the left you can see the product installed in a standard 1.25" bike rack (S64650) - and how far the pin sticks out. In the center of the picture you can see the second lock I needed.

Purchased 3 items from etrailer (Swagman-S64650, Hitch -24902, Anit-Rattle Lock -S64029)- Product review below etrailer review (both get similar star rating)
Decided to use etrailer based in their support videos and upfront information. For example: on some products I reviewed they provided (in the title info ) Class I or II. For other retailers you had to dig deep into description. Being a novice at the ratings it not only educated but prevented incorrect part ordering.
I will not hesitate to use etrailer based on the above and AFTER the purchase support

Nothing complicated/easy to use.
Upon initial check it does seem to reduce "wobble/rattle" of mounted Swagman-S64650 bike rack.

by:

I haven't actually gotten to try it yet, but one thing I don't quite "get" is that the package says "Pin can be locked without key" ... but I notice that when you remove the lock from the pin there's no way to get the lock back onto the pin without the key being in the lock mechanism.

by:

I needed this Swagman bolt for my Swagman rack. Swagman told me they didn't have anything that would meet my needs. ETrailer did. Works perfectly to affix the rack to a hitch receiver requiring a longer bolt.

The product works great. However, all I needed was a slightly longer bolt - the original bolt wasnt long enough to secure the rack on our new car. I did not need the lock, which is too big to fit in the available space on this car. So I just use the bolt and put a clip on the notch on the locking end. Works great and I am very happy with it. But, I ended up paying ~$40 for a locking bolt when all I needed was the bolt itself. It was the only solution I could find and I would happily do it again, but it was pretty expensive.

by:

Works well. Bolts through Hitch receiver so you can snug it down to avoid rattling. Locking cap just spins around unless unlocked, so about impossible to remove.

Unfortunately, many of the bike rack manufacturers use proprietary hitch locks. For Thule racks, you'd want to use # THSTL2.

by:

Well made. Sliding lock cover is an improvement on blocks with caps. Also, the Pine locks automatically when it is engaged instead of having to turn the key afterwards.

by:

This hitch pin solved two problems for us: (1) it is longer than the pin included with the hitch rack, more than long enough to deal with the extra width of our 2” hitch receiver with reinforcement; (2) it is locking with two keys, helping to make the hitch rack more secure and insuring that the bolt cannot become unscrewed and potentially rattle out of the 2” receiver.
