Swing-Away Design for Rear Cargo Area Access

The SportRack Ridge has a hinged arm that lets you swing the rack away from your vehicle. This provides full access to your vehicle's rear cargo area and eliminates the need to remove your bikes when you're unloading your vehicle or letting your dog hop in or out of the back.

To open the hinged arm, loosen the knob attached to the anti-rattle bolt, pull up on the black T-handle, and swing the rack away from the rear of your vehicle. Insert the pin into the rack's arm joint to lock it in place in the open position. This leaves your hands free to open your hatch and remove cargo. When you're ready to go, remove the pin, fold the rack back against your vehicle, and tighten the T-handle.

Unit doesn't fit a Jeep Rubicon with a spare tire. I tried 4 times and contacted etrailer.com that the unit doesn't work as sold and they offered to sell me a 7 3/4 extension and reduce the load capacity 50%.
The length of the 2" hitch needs to be 3" longer for a standard Rubicon to get past the spare.
You not going to want to take your spare tire off for the hitch to work. It defeats the purpose.

Customer service was excellent, however the product is a flawed design. Can't recommend this hitch. Its also heavy.

Solid rack for half the price of the name brands. Don’t waste your money! Thanks to the extensive reviews on etrailer and a free shipping promotion I took a chance and ordered this along with the three of their crossbars, anti rattle hitch pin and cable lock. All for well less than the name brand rack alone.
Shipping was painful. Etrailer said it was in stock but then due to a delay with the manufacturer it took 35 days from order to arrival. I wasn’t in a hurry so I waited patiently, and etrailer reps emailed often to lmk they hadn’t forgotten. I thought some kind of reward for my extreme patience was in order- discount, gift card, free bag of chips- but they politely declined. Oh well. In the end it arrived when they (eventually) said it would, all in one box, in great shape.
The rack was super easy to assemble. You’ll need a ratchet or two and you’ll need to crank those bolts to assemble- they don’t just “insert.” But otherwise it’s only a few steps; I had mine hanging on my truck in probably 15 minutes. Swings away and locks smoothly and requires no effort to do so. Everything feels quite sturdy and well made. No rattle on initial test drive either.
This will be a once in a while rack at best for our family of four. We have two SUVs so I needed a rack that could get out of the way of the rear hatch WITH bikes on it. This will do that. And now I don’t need to stuff four dirty bikes into the back of my truck, getting them all tangled and scratched!

2017 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and 2017 Toyota Tacoma - Having heavily researched this and other products for a 4 bike rack for our Rubicon and Tacoma, I decided on the SR2415. The Rubicon was the concern with finding a rack that would work for both vehicles. We have an after market Class III hitch on the Rubicon that is almost flush with the rear bumper (protrudes about 1" or less). This rack came very close to touching the tire at the top when the Bike Holder Bar is in the stored position (about 1/2" of clearance). We have BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM LT255-75-R17. Purchased a Locking Hitch pin with this, but the rack comes with a threaded ping and the racks pin hole is also threaded on the right side. Was not able to use the locking bolt but the bolt that came with it holds it very tight. Only concern it being stolen. The Tacoma wasn't a concern but having the swing feature is extremely helpful for needing to access the bed/tailgate.Swings out and away from the Jeep with a little more effort than expected. Overall we are very happy and excited to start using this and will report back any updates.

Perfect fit on 2004 Honda CRV utilizing Curt 13535 hitch. Easy to assemble, high quality construction, and ample clearance for the exterior-mounted spare tire on the rear hatch of the car.
My only (slight) gripe is the concave stabilizing bracket on the rack (designed to secure to the downtube on a mounted bike) is too small a diameter to fit securely around any sizable downtube. Would be nice if the bracket was about another 1” across the concave portion to better fit many standard mountain bikes. I think most small diameter road bike frames should fit ok. I placed a rag between the bracket and my downtube to prevent the bracket from scratching the downtube.

We have been taking extended trips for years with a variety of bike racks, and just got back from a 9,000 mile trip from NC across the SW looking for deserts in flower, up the CA coast, and back across Utah and CO. We often leave the highway to take rough roads that say 4wd high clearance recommended, but we manage in our 2wd Tacoma. We only hauled 2 bikes, but we added a shelf for a 6 gal gas can because we were often far from a gas station. Our bike rack made a 2 month backcountry camping trip so much easier! Totally satisfied!

The hitch is great. It swing out of the way for our Subaru just fine. When I use it on my Ford Transit the swing arm is a little short. Which does not allow me to open the door all the way. I also wish there was an option to swing it to the driver's side.

Excellent bike rack. Fits the 2013 TT FJ Cruiser perfectly. The swing out feature is easy to use and allows full opening of the tailgate. Rack is sturdy and holds the bike securely with minimal movement of the bike and rack on rough roads. Order and shipping was convenient and prompt.

This rack rocks! I've got it on the back of my Sportsmobile camper van. It attaches super easy, it has many different foldable positions that are ideal for access to the back of my van as well as easy bike placement and removal. A+ product and I highly recommend it!!

Easy to put together. Holds bikes securely. Easy to use. Can open the back door of Rav 4 completely. Pretty heavy but not too heavy to hang on the upper hook in the garage for storage.

It has worked well for our two mountain bikes. Easy to swing out of the way to lower my truck tailgate. There is very little play of the rack in the extender hitch it fits in while traveling down the road. The bikes as well fit snuggly on the rack. Overall it was a good buy and cost less than comparable racks.

I used the SR2415 on my 2014 Honda CRV EX because I wanted a bike carrier that would allow me easy trunk access. The package arrived quickly and without any problems. The rack is heavy though and assembly was a challenge. The directions were not clear in text or pictures and some it took some "muscle" to get it all together. I was particularly frustrated when one of the nuts was screwed too far onto the end of the screw ( inside the part that attaches to the hitch) and I was unable to screw the bolt onto the other bar and attach the locking mechanism. I finally figured out that I needed to move the nut up further on the screw but I had to put the wrench inside the bar to do so. This rack took about 2 hours to assemble due to the unclear directions. I would rate the assembly poor but once I loaded my bike the rack did exactly what I had wanted. It easily gives me access to the trunk. One twist and I can swing everything out of the way. My cruiser bike held up great during my travels. The only thing is that the bike did shift a bit on the bar, so where you rest the bike was slanted and not across from each other when I arrived. This did not impact the stability or my ability to travel with my bike.

I still really like the rack but it is still a work in progress figuring it out. I recently changed up my child seat carrier and was worried it would not work on the bike. The Universal bar that your company had suggested and I bought last year but never used was the answer to my prayers. After trying it out in a few positions- it is perfect. I would still recommend it for a less expensive, sturdy swinging rack.

So, it has been just about a year since this purchase and we've been pleased with this hitch rack for the money. With its heavy gauge steel construction it is on the heavy side, but we would pay a lot more for a lighter model and this has worked well for us. I was going between 4 and 5 stars since this rack is VERY tight for 4 adult-sized mountain bikes with thicker aluminum frames, but we can get them all on there in a pinch (and we more typically use it for 2 or 3 bikes). Very solid and tight for even long trips and the fold/swing mechanisms have held up well. I think this rack should be on anyone's list for comparison shopping for hitch racks (we use it on a CR-V).

Another year has passed and this rack has held up with frequent use on both short and long trips. We use it for both mountain and road bikes. Three beefy mountain bikes max we put a fourth one on a roof rack mount if needed.

Instructions are horrible. Should be a simple assemble but its not. Product appears to be solid and is currently working as advertised. Wish it didn't have a bolt connection to hitch so I could you use my locking hitch pin. Clearance for Jeep spare tire is an issue when rack is folded down. When up holding bikes not an issue, unless I get bigger tires

After one year, it has remained sturdy and functional without issues. We have made several long trips with multiple bikes and the swing out feature has made utilizing the back of the SUV simple. We love it and highly recommend it. If there is any negative, we would say it is the tie down rubber straps; they can be difficult to close, but it gives us a feeling of security that the bikes won’t come loose.

There's a few things I'd change about it; but for the price you can't beat it. Fits our family's 4 bikes nice and easy once I figured out a good order to put them on in (2 kids bikes, adult road bike, adult hybrid bike)

I was unsure how this would perform due to the price point compared to the big name swing away racks, but we are really happy we chose the SportRack. It is rock solid and really well built. The instructions are a little weak but it was overall easy to put together, I did it myself in about 30 minutes. It is a little heavy but i had no problem attaching it to my hitch by myself. Once installed it feels like it is part of the van, no wiggling or shaking around at all.
We just did a 2000 mile shakedown trip with it and needed to swing it away frequently to access the back of our camper van, it worked flawlessly, and released and returned to place in seconds.
It was great that we could leave the bikes on the rack and kept on the side of the van while we were camping, where they were completely secure but out or the way.
We received a lot of positive comments on it from other travelers.

Just a couple of things to note:
1. You need to check the tightness of the threaded pin every so often when traveling. We did find that is loosened up a bit a couple times, so i checked it whenever we stopped for fuel. Also care is required to make sure the pin is lined up and turns easily when tightening,,it feels like it could strip if it is misaligned. Sometimes a little wiggle or lift on the arm is needed to get it in place.
2. The wire that attaches the safety pin to the rack can get pinched in the swinging hinge if it isn't placed properly, just need to be aware of where it is hanging when you pull it out
3. We had two hybrid bikes on it, might have been able to figure out how to squeeze in a third but don't think we really could get four on.
4, We bought a locking hitch pin and due to the tight space between our hitch and the bumper, the lock faces down and away from the back of the car, so you either have to unlock it blind or lay under the bumper.
5. If the rack had an integral bike lock or some way to attach a cable lock to it, this would be a 6 star review!

I chose this rack for my 2014 Jeep Wrangler 4-door so that I would be able to get into the back without taking the bikes off, it works perfectly in this respect and made a long road trip much easier. The only issue with the fit is when you rotate the rack into the folded down position it will rub a little bit on the spare tire, I have the stock Goodyear spare on mine. If you are using a wider tire you'll likely have to add a short hitch extension to make it work for you or else just leave the rack in the up position all the time. A couple days after I bought this rack we drove up to Acadia National Park in Maine from our home in Northwestern PA, it was a 12+ hour drive one way and this rack held up great there and back. No excess shifting or bouncing and the straps are very easy to use without feeling like they're going to tear apart (or tear your hand apart). The rack weathered quite a bit of rain and damp, foggy days and shows no signs of being affected by it. I will note that when I put it together I added extra grease to all the hinge pins/bolts and the spring-loaded pin. All around it was a great performer at half the price of the Yakima and Thule counterparts; it's essentially the same design without all the "chrome" so-to-speak.

Great customer service and delivery of the car bike rack.

The rack requires a trailer hitch in order to attach it to your car. The hitch cost me an additional $600. The rack itself is well made. The elastic straps that hold the bikes in place on the rack are very difficult to hook. Only other negative is the rack is very heavy to carry when removing it from the hitch.

We ordered the sport rack ridge swing for our Dodge Pro Master Travato and it works great. We can swing the bikes to the side and open both back doors without issues. The bikes secure nicely to the rack without much vibration from what I can tell. etrailer was great to work with, this item was on back order for several months. etrailer kept us updated and offered us other alternatives if we did not want to wait. We received the product last week and hauled three bikes in the rack for over 600 highway miles and the rack appears to be solid and durable. Much better than the the Travato bike rack that dented our door during bike transport.

After purchasing the Sportrack 4-bike swinging rack. I was emailed for comments regarding the performance of the rack and subsequent satisfaction with the product. I am very impressed with the Sportrack, it has performed great. However, I must admit it is very difficult to attach the straps to the carriers. It is trying to force a round hole onto a square peg. Particularly on cold mornings.

I do have some replacement parts that could work, but unfortunately there aren't any specific replacement pieces.     We do not have any swinging platform bike racks. We do have platform racks that tilt away from the vehicle. I suggest the Swagman Chinook # S64683 for your 2014 Honda CR-V.
