Thule Apex XT 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Locking Cable

Note: The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the face of the hitch must be 1-1/2" or greater to use this rack.

Approved for use on cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, and motorhomes - not approved for fifth wheels or towable campers

Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

Thule Apex XT 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack

This premium, powder-coated steel hitch-mounted bike rack lets you transport 4 bikes on the back of your vehicle. It has fold-up anti-sway cradles and ratcheting straps that make it easy to load and unload your bikes. The cradles are set 7" apart, so there's enough space between your bikes to prevent them from becoming tangled on the rack. It also has an anti-rattle hitch pin and integrated cable with keyed-alike locks that secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle.

Folding Dual Arms with HitchSwitch Lever

Thule Apex XT 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Folding Dual Arms with HitchSwitch Lever

The Apex XT has dual arms that provide your bikes with excellent support and ground clearance during transport.

Thule Apex XT 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Hitch Switch Lever

The upper HitchSwitch lever lets you fold the arms down when not in use.

HideAway Anti-Sway Cradles

Thule Apex XT 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Anti-Sway Cradles

The Apex XT has HideAway anti-sway cradles that secure each bike twice along the top tube and once along the seat post or downtube. This reduces rocking to help eliminate bike-to-bike and bike-to-vehicle contact. The soft rubber cradles rotate around the arms to accommodate your bikes' frames. Each cradle is set 7" apart on the arms, so there is more space between your bikes when compared with many other hanging-style racks. The added space helps prevent your bikes from becoming tangled on the rack.

Thule Apex XT 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Grooves

The cradles have grooves on the surface that prevent your brake and shifter cables from getting pinched.

Thule Apex XT 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Folding Cradles

Durable, dual-molded ratchet straps hold your bikes firmly in place on the cradles. You can remove the lower straps and fold the cradles up against the arms to make it easier to slide your bikes onto the rack.

Tilting Rack with HitchSwitch Lever

Thule Apex XT 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Tilting

The rack tilts for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Just pull up on the HitchSwitch lever at the base of the rack, and lower the rack into position. When you're ready to go, lift the rack up until it snaps into place with an audible click.

Thule Apex XT 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Lower HitchSwitch Lever

The HitchSwitch lever is located right behind the base of the mast. This makes it easy to reach with one hand and steady the mast with the other.

Tool-Free Installation

Thule EasyFold XT

The knob at the front of the shank lets you quickly and easily install the rack. Just slide the shank into your hitch and turn the knob until snug. The knob deploys an anti-rattle wedge in the shank to help take play out of the hitch connection. It also sets the integrated SnugTite hitch pin into place, securing the rack to your receiver.

Complete Security for Bikes and Rack

Thule Helium Pro 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Locking Cable

The Helium Pro includes One-Key System locks to secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle. The integrated cable lock threads around your bikes' frames and inserts into the lock at the end of the left arm. The cable stores inside the mast when not in use.

Thule Helium Pro 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Locking Pin

The lock on the hand knob secures the rack to your vehicle. The hand knob will spin freely when locked so a would-be thief can't operate it to remove the rack from your hitch. The locks are keyed alike so you can use the same keys for both locks. Additional One-Key System locks (sold separately) let you make all of your Thule products keyed alike.

Hitch Compatibility

Thule Helium Pro 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack 1-1/4

The rack works with both 1-1/4" and 2" hitches. To use it in a 1-1/4" hitch, simply remove the adapter with the included Allen key.

Solid performer from Thule. The easy installation for on/off vehicle is easy. Sturdy, heavy duty. The socket connection is designed as to prevent socket bounce which was a concern by other bike carrier mfgs where the socket and carrier connection is sloppy. I have used this on 3 road trips with all 4 bikes mounted with no need for concern. It has a safety/security cable to lock all bicycles on the bike carrier. Comes with security cable lock and lock for socket securement. No need to purchase additional locks. Provided with a handle to tip the carrier out of the way to open trunk.

I am so excited about this rack. It was easy for me to get into the hitch (and I am 5’ 1”) and all set up. Just beware you are paying attention when you put the straps in. There are 4 shorter straps for wrapping around the center near the bike seat. I put one in the wrong strap insert and have yet to be able to get it back out (may just have to cut it out and order a replacement). So far I have gotten my bike (road bike with mountain bike style handlebars) on with my two kids bikes. Looks to be good room to hey mybhusbands in there when the time comes I live that it has an integrated lock system to secure the bikes while you aren’t with the car. We are happy riders now!

Very satisfied with this rack and the service from etrailer.com. I ordered in May 21, 2020 and it took some time to arrive due to the high demand for bikes and everything related to bikes during Covid 19 pandemic. As soon as etrailer found out the item was delayed from the manufacturer they let me know and even offer if I wanted to change my order. The excellent culture of customer service was evident on the responses I got from Ricky, Nicole, Amy, Carol and Victoria. They were all very understanding and patience in explaining the order delay. I decided to wait and it was worth it. I looked online for racks and found this model with a good rating. When I arrived at etrailers I was impressed with the detailed information they provided. They happen to have a video for the CR-V 2018 which it is what I have. Also they have the best price. I have use the rack for a couple of trips and I am very satisfied with it. I currently mount 3 mountain bikes on it, and they stay solid during the bumps and swings. I strongly recommend etrailer. Thank you.

Works great for our needs. I've only used for two bicycles so far. It seems like it would be a pretty tight fit so I can only imagine how bad it would be with the Yakima Fulltilt which is essential their equivalent, which has arms several inches shorter. I was going to go with the Yakima equivalent but the etrailer Q&A team gave me a great advice to get this one. I am completely satisfied with this rack all around.

Comments
Still working perfectly. Looks nicer and sturdier than most other carriers I see on the roads around us. No regrets here. I only had a 1.25 hitch so this met my need well and will be able to follow me to a larger 2x2inch hitch size in the future.

Always had a Thule bike rack and have always been very happy with their product. However, new Apex strap system is horrible. I gave the product a generous 3 stars because of excellent etrailer service and the Apex hitch connection system. Strap/bike securing is horrendous. We have two expensive road bikes that have after two weeks deep marks and paint wear from the straps. Trying to devise a way to remove the straps and outfit with older model rubber strapping system.

Just used the rack for the first time for a 1,500 mike trip. Overall the rack worked great and is easy to use. The bikes stayed very secure. I have the four bike rack and have only carried three bikes but it seems that it would be very difficult to have four full size bikes. Maybe three full size bikes and one small child bike. Etrailer has great prices and great customer service. I had a problem with a strap while we were on our trip and they responded immediately and got me a replacement strap. Thanks Tiffany for being so helpful! It is rare to find a company that provides excellent customer service.

I like the bike rack but three normal size bikes is all we can fit on there. I guess if there was one small bike for a child I could squeeze the fourth one on. Overall the rack is easy to use and works very good

We have had our old Thule bike rack for over 15 years and although it was fine, it didn't collapse making it impossible to access the hatch without taking it off completely and it jutted out a good 20 inches from that back of our van. This rack is simple to install in the hitch, collapses down when not in use and also collapses down to get into the hatch-game changer! This is less bulky and lighter than our last rack too.

I just installed the Apex XT 4 bike rack and looking forward to using it soon in better weather with my son and the three grandkids (my son bought one at the same time so we can fit all of the bikes). Installation was easy once I checked out a video. I selected this bike rack from etailer.com after I looked at their videos evaluating many similar 4 bike racks.

This rack is so easy to install and use. I did it myself in about 20 minutes. Super stable and secure. This is the first hitch rack I've had and I don't know why I waited so long! We haven't used for more than 2 bikes yet. Trunk access is easy as well with the tilt feature.

It is clearly very sturdy and cleverly built. As someone who hadn’t used one before, the manual illustrations (with no verbal instructions) were inadequate. Once I was shown what to do, it was obvious , but only in retrospect Luckily there’s a bike shop in the neighborhood to help. I was advised to put thick lubricant in the tow hitch box to keep it from corroding and to make it easier to get the rack in and out. I couldn’t find the slot for the strap that wraps around the vertical tube to keep the bike from swinging until shown where the bottom of the bike support swings out. Words would have helped

I just purchased a hitch and Thule bike rack. I was very pleased with etrailer.com. I had a question about the billing and they were very polite and helpful with my question. The video was exactly how the installation was going to be and made it very easy. Already told a coworker about the site and he ordered a hitch for him self. I will use this site again.

- TH9025XT

Attaching the rack to the hitch was extremely easy. Clip it in, add the lock core and tighten the hand knob until it’s snug in the receiver tube. My wife likes the levers to fold in the arms and for access to the lift gate. It’s definitely easier than a pin style system. You can tell it’s solid and great quality. Definitely measure youth bikes if you can’t afford room in the vehicle for travel. Some bikes are too small for the arms to go under the bikes top tube. Customer service was great and shipping was fast. Highly recommend etrailer.com and Thule products.

Very well designed bicycle rack. I was very concerned about it fitting on my car's hitch (Mercedes GLC 43) as my car has flanges on either side of the hitch housing blocking easy access to a tightening screw. However, the way this rack is designed, there was no problem installing it securely.

  • Comparing Thule Apex XT 4-Bike and 5-Bike Racks
If you only plan on ever carrying 4 bikes and you're looking for ease of use then the Thule Apex XT 4-Bike Rack # TH9025XT is the better option. It has 28" arms and the cradles are spaced 7" apart which should allow you to load up all 4 Trek bikes just fine. The 5-Bike Apex XT # TH9026XT also has 28" long arms so the cradles are 5-1/2" apart which is the more traditional spacing, but it will make loading up your bikes a little more of a hassle. Your only real benefit of the 5-Bike version...

Those two M6 x 25 mm screws are what help to keep the shank from folding up like that again. They are more or less a security measure to help keep the bike rack from coming into contact with your vehicle so yes, you will want to install them even though you can technically use the bike rack without installing them.

  • 4 Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon Carrying 4 Adult Mountain Bikes
For your 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon I recommend going with the Thule Apex Swing XT 4 Bike Rack # TH9027XT because it only weighs in at 42 lbs, it can hold up to 4 bikes weighing in at 37.5 lbs each. The best part is that this has a swinging arm that allows you to move your bike rack and all of the bikes out of the way for complete rear hatch access without psychically removing them from your vehicle. Since it sounds like you'll have 4 adults in your Outback Wagon you're going to want that...

  • Fit of Girls Bikes on Thule Apex # TH9025XT Bike Rack
The best way to carry a girl's or women's bike on a hanging style bike rack like the Thule Apex # TH9025XT is to use a frame adapter bar like part # 64005. The bar spans the distance between the handlebar gooseneck and the seat post, providing a level attachment point for the bike rack. This allows the bike to be carried level, which maximizes the ground clearance. As long as the distance between the seatpost and the handlebar gooseneck is greater than 16 inches, the adapter bar will work...

  • Will the Thule 4 Bike Rack Fit a 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited
Yes, the Thule Tram Ski and Snowboard Carrier Adapter part # TH9033 will work with the Thule Apex 4 Bike Rack part # TH9025XT. However, the issue you are going to run into when using the Bike Rack on your 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited is the rear spare tire. In order to be sure the bike rack will clear the rear spare tire you will need to measure from the outside of the bumper beam to the outer edge of the spare tire on your Jeep (see photo). You will then need to subtract the length...

  • Using a Cable Lock to Secure Bikes to a Thule Apex Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack
The Thule Apex # TH9025XT comes with an integrated cable lock to secure the bikes to the rack. But it does not come with a hitch lock. To add a hitch lock you would need # THSTL2.

  • Is an Adapter Needed to Mount a Mens Schwinn Beach Cruiser on the Thule Bike Rack
It is always best to carry a bike as level as possible on a bike rack to keep the tires from hitting the ground when driving. Mounting a bike with an angled frame on a bike rack will bring the front tire closer to the ground than bikes with straight, horizontal top tubes. This can be dangerous if you are driving on rough terrain or over bumps. Based on the photo that you attached, you should be able to carry your mens Schwinn beach cruiser without needing an adapter bar. To be certain,...

  • How to Carry 4 Bikes with a 2018 Honda HR-V
Since the 2 trailer hitches that we have available for your 2018 Honda HR-V are Class I rated, part # 24932 and part # C11416, you won't be able to carry more than 2 bikes with a hitch mounted bike rack. All Class I trailer hitches are smaller so the extra weight from bikes sitting further away from the vehicle will cause damage to your bike rack, trailer hitch, and possibly your HR-V and bikes. We have 4-bike bike racks that are compatible with your Class I trailer hitch, like the Thule...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 2008 Volvo V70 to Carry the Thule Apex XT
I recommend going with a Class III trailer hitch with a 2" receiver. This will allow you to gain full use of your Thule Apex XT 4 Bike Rack # TH9025XT on your 2008 Volvo V70 and it will be compatible with more accessories than a 1-1/4" receiver is. Between the Draw-Tite # 75916 and the Curt # 13266 I recommend going with the Draw-Tite option over the Curt as the Curt requires the use a stabilizer strap like part # 18050 for any non-trailer loads per the Curt warranty. I have attached...
