Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

The versatile Rola TX-104 hitch-mounted bike carrier allows you to safely and securely carry four bicycles of almost any frame size on the back of your vehicle.

Rola TX-103 bike rack anti-sway cradles

The bike rack has large, soft anti-sway cradles that hold your bikes securely in place during travel with rubber straps and that accommodate bike-frame tube sizes up to 2" wide and 3" tall. The anti-sway devices touch your bike frame at three points to keep the bikes from moving back and forth, eliminating bike-to-bike contact during travel and protecting your bikes's painted surfaces. The cradles can be repositioned along the rack arms to ensure that your bikes remain properly spaced.

TX-104 arms outTX-104 arms up

The TX-104 has dual arms that provide your bikes with excellent support. You can fold down the arms for convenient storage when the rack is not in use by removing the handle mounted on the top of the upright support arm. When the arms are lowered replace the handle to lock the arms in place in the down position.

The bike carrier includes an integrated cable lock that stores inside the upright support arm when you are not using the rack. The cable lock secures to a post at the end of one of the rack arms to lock your bikes to the carrier. The cable lock comes with two keys.

Rola TX-103 bike rack anti-sway cradles

The TX-104 offers easy access to the rear cargo area without your having to remove the bikes from the rack. You can tilt the bike carrier away from your vehicle by pulling a pin at the foot of the rack. Pull the upright arm of the rack up and forward until it rests on the stops that keep it from hitting the ground. To restore the rack to the upright position, push the rack back into place and insert the pin and clip.

Video Transcript for Rola TX-104 Hitch Bike Rack Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Rola TX 104 bike four-bike rack for two-inch hitches, part number 5-9-4-0-1. The Rola TX 104 is a great bike rack for families with multiple bikes and can carry both kids, road bikes, alternate frame bikes and mountain bikes. To prevent theft and tampering, the bike rack also comes with an integrated cable lock which wrap around your bikes and then provide that additional security. When loading up the four bikes, you want to make sure you don't go over its hundred-pound weight capacity. Now with the bikes off, we can take a closer look at some of the features, the first ones being the cradles themselves. These are adjustable along the arms of the bike rack itself and it's also made of this soft rubber material, which is going to be easier on bikes so it won't scratch or mar up once you have them installed. For close quarter situations such as parking in your garage or parking in general, yo need more clearance in the rear, these arms do fold down.

To do that, you grab this red handle, lift up, let the arms fold down, realign the holes there and push it back down into place. If you need to gain rear hatch access, this does tilt away from the vehicle, although you cannot do this while the bikes are still attached. To do that, you come to the base here, loosen up this pin and clip, lift it up and tilt away. Now we have full access to our rear hatch to get whatever we need and we're going to have plenty of space on either side to do so. This bike rack is for two-inch hitches only and comes with its own anti-rattle bolt and that's going to take the shake and play out of the shank, which is going to make for a much smoother ride down the road. Now that we've gone over some of the features of the bike rack, let's go ahead and show you how it installs.

Let's go ahead and it put it into our two-inch hitch here. You want to line up the pinholes and then we're going to install our anti-rattle bolt and clip. With our holes lined up, we'll take our anti-rattle bolt and washer, put that through and screw it in. One of the nice features about this bike rack is the fact that it actually has its own tightening tools. You don't need any additional tools to install this in your vehicle.

You want to get it tight enough, just so all the shake and play is out of the shank. That looks good there. Now we'll go ahead and put our clip in. Next we're going to go ahead and lift the arm so we can actually put our bikes into place. Lift up, bring the arms up and then realign the holes at the top and reinsert the pins. Next, we're going to get our bike rack prepped to actually put bikes on it.

To do that, first we'll go ahead and loosen up the straps, move some of our cradles out of the way to make it easier for them to fit. You always want to put the heaviest bike closest to the vehicle. Okay. We'll go ahead and put our anti-sway strap on first, then our two top straps. With some alternative frame bikes, you may need to purchase a bike adapter bar, which you can find on "Etrailer.com". With all our bikes secured on the rack, let's go ahead and take it out on the test course and show you how it looks. First, we'll take it onto our slalom course. This will show you the side to side action, such as making turns or evasive maneuvers. Now we're at the alternating speed bumps. This will show you how it looks driving on uneven pavement or potholes. Finally, we're at the solid speed bumps, which simulate going into your driveway or parking lots. There you have it for the Rola TX 104 four-bike rack for two-inch hitches, part number 5-9-4-0-1.

Excellent product. Put a 16 inch, 24 inch and a 26 in bikes, all in one trip to Hilton Head. Safe and secure and I was moving 75-80 mph through the mountains and curves and it held strong, didn’t rock or move around and bikes and wheels were secure. Lock is awesome built in. Only complaint was it says it stores 4 bikes but that 4th bike would be too tight for my taste. I didn’t want to scratch the other 3, but it is possible. 5 stars all the way. 640141

I like this bike rack, I’ve used it a few times and it does the job it’s intended to do. Installing and removing is easy. I use it casually I take the family to the park or beach and we want to take our bikes out, the lock feature is a lifesaver. Would definitely recommend 638481

VERY disappointed with ROLA TX-104. Poor strength. Top section broke at weld the second time used. Rack is rated at 100 lbs. had less than 60 lbs. loaded, but still failed. VERY pleased with eTrailer, as they have been extremely helpful in standing behind what they sell. I decided to upgrade to a Thule rack and avoid the headache I got from the ROLA. You should avoid the ROLA too!!! Hope this helps-MD 27459

Easy installation. Great value. Not as sturdy as the Yakima or Thule, but half the price. Only complaint so far is their use of a threaded bolt that ties the rack to the receiver. This precludes the use of my locking hitch pin and means that anyone with a wrench can take the entire rack -- bikes and all -- within a minute. So now I have to buy another pin lock that'll fit the hole of this bolt. 277671

by:

Only complaint are exposed bolt heads that can scratch your bike frame. Will cover with tape. Other than that, strong and sturdy, and easy set up. Tilt down works great. 352051

The product is well built and a great value for the price. Straps are thick and hold the bikes well. I have 3 bikes, 2 of which are kids bikes and had no problem strapping them. This type of rack is not for off road use. Delivery was also quicker than I expected. 469247

I'm really disappointed in this rack... the ability to angle the rack down so you can get into the trunk is nice, but the design in the rola is so very flimsy that the bikes bounce all over the place. I've used it maybe 3 times so far and this last time the screws on the sway cradles came apart on the road, so now I'm missing sway cradle straps for 3 of the 4 slots. overall, it's a pretty flimsy rack. about the only thing it has going for it is the integrated bike lock, which is actually well designed. but I'm really wishing I had bought the thule. what a waste. 20118

Lots of features for the money This is a sturdy rack and offers lots of extras that other brands don't include, such as the self-stowing locking cable and anti-sway loops. The folding mechanism works great, allowing me to access the cargo area on my 2005 Honda Odyssey. The retention straps are probably not as well designed as competitors like Thule but work fine. The rubber straps on the Rola are very stiff and consist of oblong holes that are stretched over retaining hooks. The straps can be difficult to remove off the retainer hooks if tightly pulled over the bike frame, and I think, from looking at the Thule flanged-headed pegs system at the bike shop, that the Thule is probably does not present this problem and is better designed--of course the Thule is more base money and then one has to buy the locking cables and such. Regardless, I would probably still buy this Rola rack again--very solid construction. If you are loading a bike on and off very often and/or daily, then it may be worth buying the Thule to save one's patience regarding the better retaining system. I've used this rack to tote a smaller 14" framed Giant Boulder bike and my 17.5" Trek 7100. Getting the Giant Boulder loaded is tougher when a bottle cage is attached but certainly doable. 892

Well put together, had some paint scuffs on main tube before it was ever removed out of the box(not etrailers fault). Going on a 14 Jeep Wrangler JKU . If you have larger aftermarket wheels, you will need a hitch extender. Only other down side is if you have 4 bikes, weight is only 100lbs limit. Others are 120-140. 223289

Good value. Unfortunately one of the welds had a drip that caused the rack to not fit together. After 10 minutes of sawing furiously with a small hack saw, was able to remove the drip of dried weld and bolt it together. Other than that, pretty solid rack for the money. 152125

Overall I lke the unit I wish the 4" pipe going into 4" hitch fit a little tighter. It wabbles when driving. The rubber clamps fit very securly. Almost too secure for my wife to strap the bikes down. I love the tilt and fold down capabilities. I can fold down the rack and car fits in the garage easily. Since we ride weekly we don't have to bother removing it all the time. 1037

Well I was comparing 4-bike racks and found this Rola TX104. Made like the expensive ones but at a great price. Heavy duty steel with a nice powder coat. Includes bike lock and anti-sway hold downs. It's definitely heavy duty and handles the bikes easily. Everything about the product is well built and strong. Ordered on a Saturday received it by Thursday. Great service. I have always had great service from etrailer. We use the bike rack for long trips with 4 bikes. It replaces a much cheaper Walmart rack that couldn't handle the job. 338132

Excellent customer service and product is better than expected. minimal assembly and easy to use. My wife had a very difficult time with our previous bike rack but had no issues with this one on her first time out. Solid product and I look forward to getting a lot of use out of it. Do you have a question about this Hitch Bike Rack?

  • Recommended Hitch Mount Bike Rack for 2015 Honda Pilot
  • The 2015 Honda Pilot came standard with a Class III trailer hitch receiver, which is a 2 inch hitch. For a hitch mount bike rack that holds more than two bikes I would look at the Rola TX # 59401. This carries up to 4 bikes and will tilt away from you Pilot to give you more access to the rear hatch. The Rola TX includes anti-sway cradles and a cable lock that stores inside the upright support arm. A second option with a bit more features is the Yakima FullTilt # Y02462. The FullTilt...

  • Since the Rola TX-104 4-Bike Rack # 59401 has closely-spaced arms (14-inches from outside edge to outside edge) it will not require addition of a bike adapter bar # UB01 for many bikes. All you need to do is see if the girl's bike in question has a frame design that will allow the two 14-inch-spaced arms to fit inside the frame to suspend the bike level. In cases where the bike won't fit ideally the adapter bar provides an alterative mounting surface for the carrier. The bar simply connects...
