Does Malone Anti-Rattle Device part # MPG908 Come with Lock Nuts
Published 08/05/2025 >
Question:
Hi. My clamp came with nylocs, which is different than what is shown in the listing, and those will be a pain to install and remove every time I want to install or remove the cargo carrier. The description says corrosion resistant, so Im assuming 18-8 / 304 or similar, but can you please confirm what material I should get for the nuts? Thanks.

Hey Greg, yes it does look like they replaced the nuts with locking nuts that have nyloc inserts and still have the locking washers which is a bit redundant but I get it if they feedback was that the nuts were coming loose. With that said you don't have to completely remove the nuts to remove the anti-rattle system. You would just need to get them loose enough so that you can slide the shank of the cargo carrier out of the hitch and then it would come right off. So just a couple turns which you'd have to do even if you didn't have the locking nuts.
And then when you go to install the cargo carrier you'd just need to slip the anti-rattle over the shank, put it in the hitch, and then slide the anti-rattle back over the hitch and shank and then tighten it. These are galvanized though so if you wanted to replace them still just grab some galvanized nuts from a hardware store and you'd be fine.

Good point regarding the installation and removal. I haven't even bought the cargo carrier yet, so I won't be able to try this out until I have one, but yeah, I'll just do as you suggest and see how it goes. Regarding the material, that's interesting, I wouldn't have guessed galv ... but if I'm not going to replace them then the point is moot, so I won't worry about it ... and shame on me for not sticking a magnet on the nut before asking my question ... my apologies. Thanks for the reply.
