How to Secure Loose Fit for Trailer Hitch Adapter

Question:

Hi, I ordered this hitch and an adapter, and neither one is 2 inches. The hitch opening is closer to 2 1/8 inches than to 2, and the adapter I received is 1-15/16, not 2. That combination makes for a very loose fit, which I assume is not normal or safe. Is it normal, or is something wrong? Do you have a 2 inch to 1.25 inch adapter that is a full 2 inch so it will better fit that overly-large hitch opening? I ordered a setup from Amazon that didn't work, so that's why I went with you guys and waited almost 3 weeks to receive. Please respond as soon as possible so I know if there's something I can switch this adapter for that will work better so I can start using my bike rack. Thanks!

Trailer hitches as well as adapters have some tolerances that means they may not be exact in regards to the opening being 2 inches or an adapter being fully 2 inches such as you may be seeing with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13392.

So what you are experiencing is not irregular and there isn't a 2" to 1-1/4" adapter that is a full 2 inches, they will all likely be just slightly smaller to accommodate a hitch opening. The only way to counteract a loose fit is to use an anti-rattle device like the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061 or Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System # MPG908.

I have added links to video reviews of these parts for you to check out as well.
