Video Transcript for Brophy Hitch Anti-Rattle - Standard Anti-Rattle - RSCP Review

Today well be reviewing part number RSCP. This is the Brophy two inch receiver hitch stabilizer clamp and U bolt. This is going to stabilize your hitch accessories to eliminate rattle and prevent damage. Its going to fit most two inch cargo carriers, bike racks, steps and other non-towing applications. Again, two inch by two inch receiver style application. Its very easy to use.

It has a black powder coat finish so it is going to stand up well against rust and corrosion. It also has the nice slant here that way it can accommodate a variety of hitches. It comes with the plate, the U bolt and two lock nuts. Now for our demonstration today we are going to be installing this on a ball mount. Please keep in mind that you do not want to use this with towing applications.

This is for demonstration purposes only. Were going to place the stabilizer on top of our hitch, making sure that the slanted portion here is resting on top of the shank of our two inch by two inch hitch accessory. Then we would take our U bolt, place it around the underside of our hitch and bring it up through the pre-drilled mount holes. Once we have that on there we can then install the two lock nuts and then to apply the appropriate amount of pressure to your accessory you would want to go ahead and tighten those down using an open-ended wrench, a socket wrench whatever you have that would fit that to apply pressure to the top of the accessory, which would then apply pressure to the bottom of the hitch and help eliminate any rattle or wobble that you may have inside the hitch at the connection.Thats going to complete todays review of part number RSCP. This is the Brophy two inch receiver hitch stabilizer clamp and U bolt.

Pretty good. Still some wiggling even when this is cranked down as tight as I'm comfortable cranking it down, but MUCH better than without it. We drive two vehicles and two trailers. We use this to reduce sway and rattle on a hitch-mounted cargo basket. Since I can drive behind and watch it work, I know just how well it works. 728099

No noise, no movement starting and stoping. Very satisfied . Note : Had to install with bolts outside do to not wanting to cut out the plastic bumper guard or whatever it's called. 711583

The stabilizer is of good quality. The stabilizer works very well , as it is very strong. I have no issue with the stabilizer, But to be honest I have a 2014 Honda accord, and it is certainly not designed to tow a trailer. 470691

Trailer hitch anti-rattle clamp seems to do the trick. Had to reposition to adapt to my receiver and added lock washers with the nuts provided for a more secure fit. 707700

Great product, I bought this hitch anti-rattle to help keep my Thule bicycle rack from jumping in the receiver when I have it loaded with bikes. It does a great job of keeping the rack connected to the receiver and eliminating all of the up and down slop that would allow the hack to hop up and down as i drove down the freeway. 457364

We have a trailer that will be used for hauling 17 and 18 ft. Kayaks. Of course the trailer manufacturer made no mention in the initial literature that an additional $170. tongue extension would be needed for the 18 ft. kayak. We solved the problem much more cheaply, with the help of etrailer, by buying a hitch extender. The hitch extender will be much more stable and quiet with this hitch immobilized. I checked five different stores in our area for a hitch extender and immobilizer None had either. Finally found a hitch extender at Harbor Freight but no immobilizer there. Next time, I’ll go to eTrailer for everything and save myself time, gas money and cost. I ordered the immobilizer from eTrailer and received it on time!, so we could pull our kayaks to our 50th anniversary vacation destination. 563009

Nice, simple design. The flat plate design offers mounting flexibility to accomodate hitch variations and clearance issues. The use of elastic lock nuts for the u-bolt - an absolute must in this kind of application-shows the kind of thought that went into designing this. It's made right! Also rated for use with trailers- not all anti-rattle devices are. Yes, it meets its intended purpose- no rattles when installed. 256764

While the product is simple and of good quality it did not work on the factory hitch of my 2012 Grand Cherokee . The front of the plate hit the frame/hitch mount making it impossible for the U-bolt to be installed correctly. And even without the plate hitting the frame, the safety chain hook ups were in the way of the U-bolt on the Jeep. It does work on my Chevy K1500 so I'll keep it and try to find another solution for the Jeep. 327853

Ordered this product for a friend. He likes it. He does not remove hitch from the receiver very often and can leave it attached. It does work to eliminate the rattle. I remove my hitch after every use and find needing a wrench is a hassle. 293919

Still working to stop the rattling however someone else owns it because it would not come off the truck. Rusted solid. Would have been fine had it been oiled or taken off regularly

Good product however it did not fit the hitch on my 2011 Ford Edge because of the bumper, I was able to trim 1/2 " off of the flat (black) part of the clamp which allowed the clearence I needed for it to fit ontop of my hitch and it works great!! Very happy with it..And as with my past purchases from E trailer your service was excellent very happy with E trailer !!! 289887

This is the third anti rattle device I have purchased from etrailer along with hitch extensions for a motorhome and other equip I can't recall. But in each case the equip was high quality and no matter who I spoke with was always helpful, polite and courteous. Thanks etrailer, you have my business for however long my life is. At 72 my longivity is just a bit dubeous. 673194

Works pretty good to get 85-90% of the “wobble” out. But can be difficult to install on some vehicles due to the location of the receiver in relation to the vehicle bumper of some SUVs. Worth the money though. It is a must have for extensions like when using a bike rack. I would recommend and would buy again. 667193

It stopped all the movement and noise on my hitch. Make sure you look at the installation pictures to understand how and where it mounts to confirm you have room for the bolts. I had to trim 1/4 inch off of each bolt with a grinder because my hitch is immediately below the bumper. Arrived on time with good shipping protection. Quality of metal parts was good. It was just as described and shown in picture. Lock nuts with nylon inserts. Black metal was painted, mostly okay finish that I would give it 4 out of 5 on the paint due to some imperfections and scratches from handling and manufacturer. The U-bolt is smaller than my previous one, but seems to be working fine. 601807

  • Comparison Of 2 Inch Hitch Stabilizer Clamps
We have had several reviews for both of these products and have approval ratings that are very high. They are each designed for different purposes. The Roadmaster Quiet Hitch, part # RM-061 uses a U-bolt to hold the beveled bar in place. The Brophy Stabilizer Clamp, part # RSCP uses the lip of the included plate to secure the shank in place. If you are towing your boat, this is the correct stabilizer to use.

  • Hitch Immobilizer Recommendation for a 1-1/4 inch Hitch
I have a solution for you, but the # RSCP is designed only to fit 2 inch hitches. Instead you would want the part # RM-061-125 as it will work well on a 1-1/4 inch hitch and is very similar to the # RSCP. I attached a review video for more info as well.

  • Installation of Brophy Anti-Rattle Stabilizer Clamp and U-Bolt Upside Down
The Brophy Stabilizer Clamp and U-Bolt for 2" Hitch Receiver # RSCP holds the ball mount up against one surface of the receiver opening. The location as the top or bottom does not effect function. The u-bolt will be able to handle the weight in any of these locations as the ball mount and receiver are really doing the lifting and this adapter is securing the position to avoid rattle. You can see in the attached installation details that they have installed it in both ways and state "Note:...

Where exactly is the rattling occurring? If the looseness is between the 1-1/4 inch shank and the 2 inch adapter sleeve, make sure the Allen head screw that secures the sleeve onto the shank is fully tightened. You can try a wrap or two of electrical tape around the 1-1/4 inch shank to act as a shim and hopefully tighten things up a bit. If the rattle is between the 2 inch sleeve and the inside of your receiver tube, you'll need to snug up the hitch bolt a little bit so it fits more tightly....

I'm assuming you're speaking of an anti-rattle device. Many anti-rattle devices depend on the receiver tube to have a lip around it. The Roadmaster # RM-061 or the Brophy # RSCP are examples of this type. An anti-rattle device like the # 63232 or the # 93347 doesn't depend on the receiver tube having a lip in order to work.
