Installation of Brophy Anti-Rattle Stabilizer Clamp and U-Bolt Upside Down
Updated 08/08/2017 | Published 08/06/2017 >
Question:
Because of the safety chain positioning on my 2008 Pathfinder, Im forced to use the clamp upside down. This would pull the ball mount up instead of down in the hitch. My tongue weight is under 500 pounds. Can the u-bolt handle the weight of the tongue in this scenario?

Expert Reply:
The Brophy Stabilizer Clamp and U-Bolt for 2" Hitch Receiver # RSCP holds the ball mount up against one surface of the receiver opening. The location as the top or bottom does not effect function. The u-bolt will be able to handle the weight in any of these locations as the ball mount and receiver are really doing the lifting and this adapter is securing the position to avoid rattle. You can see in the attached installation details that they have installed it in both ways and state "Note: The Anti-Wobble plate can be installed from the top or the bottom as needed, depending on hitch
installation and available room." So, clamp side down will work fine on your 2008 Nissan Pathfinder.
