Video Transcript for Blue Ox Hitch Anti-Rattle - Standard Anti-Rattle - BX88225 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II. Now the component that I'm talking about is this right here. So, for demonstration purposes, I have a hitch with a hitch extender in there. Now, the immobilizer keeps your tow bar, drop receiver, bike rack, cargo carrier, extender or other hitch mount accessory from rattling and shifting while you're on the road. So, right now, we have our extender installed in our hitch. It's held in place with a traditional pin and clip. And as you can see, we have a lot of up-and-down movement and we have a lot of side-to-side movement.

Now, the immobilizer keeps the hitch mount accessories stable and secure, so it helps to eliminate rattle and sway within the hitch. It stiffens and reinforces the receiver and mounts quickly and easily. It includes the bracket, U-bolts and nuts necessary for installation. It is designed for a two inch by two inch trailer hitch receiver with part number BX88224, and it's going to fit a two and a half inch by two and a half inch trailer hitch receiver with part number BX88225.The bracket, itself, is made from a durable steel construction with a black powder coated finish to resist rust and corrosion. And the product's made in the USA.

And so, when we're ready to install it, basically what we're going to do, is we're going to take one of our brackets, and it does come with detailed installation instructions. So, we're going to take one of our brackets and we're going to go ahead and place it on to the unit. So, it's just going to go onto the shank of our accessory, just like that. Then, what we'll do . Actually I'm going to place it on the other way. Makes it easier to see when we install the hardware for you.

And then we can take our actual bracket, and it's got these welded on plates that stick out, so these plates right here go onto the back of the rolled lip of our receiver. Just like that. And then our U-bolt comes through the appropriate slots. And then, what we're going to do, is go ahead and just loosely install our hardware. And then, the other plates right here, they grab on to the U-bolt. So, we'll place on our other U-bolt.

And these U-bolts run different directions, and so as we tighten the hardware, it really draws the shank of the accessory to one side of the receiver tube. And the tighter we get it, the more we're going to notice that it takes out that rattle and wobble from within the hitch. So, with all of hardware started, we can go ahead and take a socket wrench, and begin tightening all that down. Once we have all of these tight, we'll go and give it another shake test. Then you'll be able to see how drastically it takes out that rattle and wobble from within the hitch. And I do like to make my way around to each individual nut, and try to make sure that it has the same amount of pressure or torque applied to it. Those are all pretty tight. So, now with all of our hardware tightened down, I'm going to hold on to the top tube here, put some pressure on it. And you'll see as we move it side-to-side, we don't have that annoying rattle from within the hitch. And when we move it up and down, we don't have that annoying rattle. It's actually moving the entire receiver tube. So, again, this hitch receiver immobilizer really does a great job at keeping your accessory from rattling and shifting while you're on the road. That's going to do it for today's look at the Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II.

I've used the 2.5" X 2" before and now needed the 2.5" x 2.5" anti-rattle. Great product and easy to use 421940

- BX88225

Very happy with this product, was looking for something to tighten up the hitch area and this Immobilizer has done the job. 440968

- BX88225

As shown and working as advertised. Stopped trailer sway and annoying clink clank clunk of the hitch. Time will tell how long it lasts. I was hoping for 1/2"- 20 threads. It is 3/8"-16. Maybe it will be strong enough for a 2 1/2" class V hitch. One thing for sure, I am going to TEST it. ;*) 317873

Got this to stop the movement in my rock tamers . Certainly did what I was looking for. No more annoying rattle driving down the road . I showed my son in-law and now he wants the same set up . Not sure I will use the loctite or not as i like taking then off when we're not pulling the 5th wheel , i was thinking of changing the nuts to locking nuts . E trailer knew just what i was looking for and got it to me a day earl . 620408

- BX88225

So far so good it seems. I just put it on today. But the design looks like its about the best on the market. With the only exception being it recommended I use the "Loctite Red" on all screws. I don't have any on hand, and it would be cool if you could include it in the package. I'm planning on stopping by the autoparts store and seeing if they have a small container I could use. Other than that, it looks to be well designed. I expect it to work great. 490175

The Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II, 2.5" arrived on time and without package damage. Unpacked and installed in less than 5 minutes. Zero knocking, noise, and movement of the hitch after Immobilized installed. Very Strongly Recommended. 308599

I've not actually installed this immobilizer yet, but have held it in place, where it fits perfectly, and can imagine exactly how it will do the job I was looking for something to do. I was pleased to find it, and the helpful customer service rep pointed me to it immediately. Thanks, ned 160146

The stabilizer used with the double 2" hitch receiver took all wobble & wiggle out of the bike rack. Excellent product! 141234

- BX88225

The product was easy to install; didn't take more than 5 minutes. I haven't had the chance to test it with my utility trailer hooked up yet but will soon, that will be the real test as to how satisfied I am with the product. I will say this for etrailer.com, they are awesome. I originally passed up ordering the item from etrailer.com just to save a few bucks and ordered it from another site. I had to end up cancelling the order from the other site. I ordered it last Thursday, from etrailer.com, and they bumped up my shipping at no extra cost to me so I could get the part by Monday. They didn't have to do that but they did. All my future towing purchases will be with etrailer.com not just because they are located in my home state of Missouri but because they provide great service. I have already recommended them to friends and co-workers. 96182

Thanks. 40282

  • Will the Immobilizer II # BX88225 Work with a 2 Trailer Hitch Receiver Collar
Even if the Immobilizer II # BX88225 did fit around your receiver, since it is for a 2-1/2" receiver opening anything that you put in the trailer hitch receiver would be too small for this to work properly. Instead I believe what you would need is the Immobilizer III # BX88312 which has a bracket that is 4" x 4" and is compatible with a 2" receiver opening. I have attached a photo showing these dimensions. I recommend trying to mock up this on your trailer hitch to see if this is compatible...

  • Difference Between Blue Ox Immobilizer III and II for 2-1/2 inch Hitches
The Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II # BX88225 is designed for applications where the hitch is 2-1/2 inch sized and you are using a 2-1/2 inch accessory. Whereas the part # BX88312 is for 2-1/2 inch hitches that are using an adapter to then use a 2 inch hitch accessory.

  • Recommended Hitch Stabilizer to Reduce Motion of Ball Mount in 2-1/2-Inch Hitch
The Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer # BX88225 works on 2-1/2-inch hitches like yours to reduce motion of the connected item. This device uses two u-bolts that each pull in different directions - one up/down and the other left/right - to steady the connected item. Whenever additional connections are introduced in a system, such as by using a reducer sleeve like the Draw-Tite # 58102, there will always be more potential for random motion.

  • Anti-Rattle Device to Use with Rock Tamers on a 2016 Chevy Silverado 3500
Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II - 2-1/2" Hitches Item # BX88225 would not work with your Rock Tamers because it needs some of the same space occupied by the Rock Tamer mounting bracket. If you are using a hollow shank ball mount I recommend using SilentACT Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 1-1/4", 2", and 2-1/2" Hitches Item # SHP2082 to reduce movement. • Can Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II Be Used with Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System
Yes, you can indeed use the Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II # BX88225 that you referenced to secure the shank of your Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37140ET in place. The Immobilizer will work to eliminate any rattle/movement you are getting at the hitch connection. This is compatible with 2-1/2 inch hitch receivers. If you happen to have a 2 inch receiver you will want the Blue Ox # BX88224 instead. I have attached a short video demonstration that you can check...

  • Reducing Movement in Reese Titan Hitch Box Extension on 2017 GMC Sierra 3500
The product I recommend to help reduce the play when using your Reese Titan Hitch Box Extension # RP45292 is the Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer III # BX88312. This immobilizer is made specifically to keep a 2" hitch adapter stable inside a 2-1/2" receiver. Due to the length of the Reese extension, there is still going to be a bit of play with this set-up, but the immobilizer is going to make a noticeable impact when towing with your 2017 GMC Sierra 3500.

  • Anti-Rattle Device Recommendation for a 2-1/2 inch Hitch
We've had customers have the U-bolt of the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 2-1/2" Trailer Hitches # RM-062 facing up and down and it has worked just fine. I would probably use it in the configuration you referenced. That way the # RM-062 isn't supporting the tongue weight of the setup. Since this is only recommended for flat-towing setups you would be better of with the Blue Ox Immobilizer II part # BX88225 since this can be used for towing a trailer. • Extension for Hitch Receiver to Allow Trailer Towing with Truck That Has Slide-in Camper
We do offer hitch extensions in various lengths to fit 2-inch and 2-1/2-inch truck hitches. These are shown on the linked page. The issue with hitch extensions is that they typically cause a loss of hitch capacity, a 50-percent loss! This happens due to the additional leverage applied by the extension to the hitch tube. This is much like slipping a pipe over the end of a tire iron to give you more leverage to loosen a lug nut. For this reason very long extensions such as the 60-inch...

Blue Ox says that as long as the RV receiver height and base plate height are within three inches of each other, no adapter or riser is necessary, so you should be fine. However, if you did feel the need to use a High-Low adapter, they do offer one with a three inch rise/drop that's rated at 10,000 lbs, part # BX88235. • Blue Ox Hitch Immobilizer Recommendation for Front Hitch of 2014 Jeep Wrangler
The two popular trailer hitch sizes are 2 inch and 2-1/2 inch which we have Blue Ox Immobilizers for both sizes as the part # BX88224 for a 2 inch hitch or part # BX88225 for a 2-1/2 inch hitch. Front hitches are basically always 2 inch hitches and on a lighter duty vehicle like a Jeep Wrangler this would especially be the case. I would be shocked if you didn't have a 2 inch hitch size but what you can do is double check by measuring the inner dimensions of the hitch.

I went out to the warehouse with digital calipers to get the exact measurement of the receiver of the Curt Trailer Hitch # C15703 and found it to be 2.55" though it is possible for the hitch that is shipped to you to have slightly (and by slightly I mean a couple hundredths or thousandths of an inch) more or less room in the receiver. You are correct, you would not be able to use locking anti-rattle device # SHP2040-XL on a Weigh Safe adjustable ball mount for 2-1/2 inch hitches because of the solid shank. And that is why we do not recommend it as a related product on any of the 2-1/2 inch Weigh Safe ball mount pages.
