Video Transcript for Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II Review

Randy: Hey guys, Randy here at Today we're going to be taking a look at the Blue Ox line of hitch immobilizers. Now, these work out great in a lot of situations. Any time you're using an accessory in a receiver tube opening and it doesn't have an anti-rattle device on it, basically you get a lot of movement. Especially with cargo carriers, we get a lot of side to side movement, that weight transferring back and forth. Now before we get to the installation process, let's take a look at some of the test course footage before and after. Essentially, before we get this installed, you're going to see this cargo carrier move side to side quite a bit.

We've got it loaded down with about 120 pounds. That's when we're doing the slalom. As we go over the bumps, you'll see this back end tip up quite a bit. Now, the cargo carrier's going to have a little bit of that anyway, but we're eliminating all of that from the shank, so it keeps everything much more stable. Now you'll see in the after-footage, all that side to side movement is completely eliminated. Once we get into the bumps, you can see there's still a little bit there from the actual cargo carrier tolerance, but we've got nothing coming from the hitch. Now regardless of whether you're using a 2" hitch or 2-1/2" hitch, or what we've got installed here going from a 2-1/2" hitch with an adapter to a 2" accessory, they're all going to work the same way.

This part with the key stock comes in on the backside. Then this U-bolt you can see, as we tighten that down, it pulls down on the accessory. This U-bolt pulls over. That's going to lock it right into the side of our receiver tube opening. Especially when we're using adapters like this, there's so much slop in that system, everything moves side to side.

You can see it's nice, heavy duty steel construction with a black powder coat finish. Blue Ox always makes good products. Then we've got the zinc-coated U-bolts. They use locking Whiz nuts here. As we get everything tightened down, we really don't have to worry about it coming back apart.

Just does a great job in getting that set. The 2" by 2" version looks identical. This is the 2-1/2 by 2-1/2. Basically, it just takes all that discomfort and all that play and that movement out of the equation so you don't have to deal with it anymore. Now another option's the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch. This one, where the Blue Ox doesn't have an 1-1/4" fit, does have an 1-1/4" fit. Has a 2" and a 2-1/2" fit. Basically, this one, this loop goes down around the hitch. This bar is going to come down and press down on the item. Now I like this one quite a bit. On really heavy loads, on your really heavy trailers, or in really heavy flat tow setups, maybe you're hauling a 1500 4x4 Ram, it gets pretty heavy. This one only eliminates the up and down. It eliminates most of the side to side, but as items get really heavy, there is still a little bit of transfer or a little bit of motion side to side. I really like the Quiet Hitch. I think it does a great job. But for total containment, I think the Blue Ox is just a little bit better. Now for all of immobilizers, the installation process is going to be the same. This is the one that fits the 2-1/2" hitch down to a 2" product or 2" accessory. You've got the small lips here. It's going to sit in behind the lip of our hitch. We want to bring it right out to the edge of it. We've got a U-bolt that's going to go in this way. Place our nuts on there. Then we've got our U-bolt that's going to come in from the top. Same thing, throw our nuts on there. Now we want to grab a 9/16" socket and we're going to start tightening these down. It's going to help to pull over on the shank and also pull down on the shank just to help us ensure that we got a great hold on them. Now we're going to grab our torque wrench, want to get all four of those torqued down.As you guys can see, this takes care of a very common problem that we have. I really like this one. I like that it has the total containment on both sides. Really helps to eliminate that movement we experience. I think if you're having that issue or if you've got heavier items that you're loading up and you can feel that transfer, I think it's a great idea to pick one up.

Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II - 2-1/2" Hitches - BX88225

Tighten up your connection. This hitch receiver immobilizer keeps your tow bar, drop receiver, bike rack and other hitch-mounted accessories from rattling and shifting while you're on the road.

Put this on my 2018 Jeep Wrangler which has a two inch hitch receiver plus a hitch extender. The outside dimension of the hitch extender is 2 1/2" so that's why I went with this product instead of the 2" one. This one fits perfectly and the hitch extender is now very snug, no movement at all.

Made the thule lectric bikes (ea 65 Lbs.)on our thule bike rack much more steady less bouncing on bumps helped keeping them both more stable@

Arrived quicker than I thought and was an easy install. Took all the play out of the hitch. Have yet to tow with it tho and I'll re-review when back from our next trip.

Easy to mount, secure and enjoy a rattle free ride. Works as advertised on the hitch receiver of my 9000 lbs trailer. Looks great

It is working great. A year later and it still looks like new and functions as advertised. Never have to worry about rattles in the hitch area any more.

So far so good it seems. I just put it on today. But the design looks like its about the best on the market. With the only exception being it recommended I use the "Loctite Red" on all screws. I don't have any on hand, and it would be cool if you could include it in the package. I'm planning on stopping by the autoparts store and seeing if they have a small container I could use. Other than that, it looks to be well designed. I expect it to work great.

The product looks well made but it will not fit on a 2022 ram 2500 pickup. Unfortunately I will need to return. Not enough clearance between the hitch and safety chain hookups. Would need to cut out the existing safety chain hookups and re-weld new steel plates. But the gen y iron grip hitch pin do work ok

I have a mixed feeling about the product as it does not fit the application I purchased it for. My Dodge RAM 3500 Diesel 4x4 bumper does not provide the clearance for me to install this product and I specifically purchased the product that is supposed to fit. I have not returned it as I may do some trimming to either my bumper or the receiver hitch [plastic guard].

As to the product itself, it is technically very sound and I can see that the method by which Blue Ox has chosen to eliminate rattling of the receiver hitch is very well thought out. The product itself would rate a five star review, but the fact that it doesn't fit the application for which it was ordered, part number appropriate, impacts my overall rating.

So, application rates a two star, doesn't fit as intended.
Product construct rates a five.
Service support, price and delivery rates a five as well.
Therefore overall rates a sound four considering all the above.
I hope you fully understand why and my rationale for this lower than usual rating for product I've purchased from you all.

My very best regards, and sincerely your service support and delivery always rates a five star!

Got this to stop the movement in my rock tamers . Certainly did what I was looking for. No more annoying rattle driving down the road . I showed my son in-law and now he wants the same set up . Not sure I will use the loctite or not as i like taking then off when we're not pulling the 5th wheel , i was thinking of changing the nuts to locking nuts . E trailer knew just what i was looking for and got it to me a day earl .

As shown and working as advertised. Stopped trailer sway and annoying clink clank clunk of the hitch. Time will tell how long it lasts. I was hoping for 1/2"- 20 threads. It is 3/8"-16. Maybe it will be strong enough for a 2 1/2" class V hitch. One thing for sure, I am going to TEST it. ;*)

The Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II, 2.5" arrived on time and without package damage. Unpacked and installed in less than 5 minutes. Zero knocking, noise, and movement of the hitch after Immobilized installed. Very Strongly Recommended.

Rock solid immobilizer using the Curt 34 inch hitch extension. Truck is a 2020 GMC AT4, 3500HD with a 2021 Cirrus 820 camper.

The product was easy to install; didn't take more than 5 minutes. I haven't had the chance to test it with my utility trailer hooked up yet but will soon, that will be the real test as to how satisfied I am with the product.

I will say this for, they are awesome. I originally passed up ordering the item from just to save a few bucks and ordered it from another site. I had to end up cancelling the order from the other site. I ordered it last Thursday, from, and they bumped up my shipping at no extra cost to me so I could get the part by Monday. They didn't have to do that but they did.

All my future towing purchases will be with not just because they are located in my home state of Missouri but because they provide great service. I have already recommended them to friends and co-workers.

I used to have a little forward and back movement in my hitch receiver. I could feel a clunk when leaving from a stop and then again while coming to a stop. I added this hitch immobilized and it all went away. I’ve had it on for close to a year now and wouldn’t tow with out it.

The stabilizer used with the double 2" hitch receiver took all wobble & wiggle out of the bike rack. Excellent product!

Great product, Worked very well on my long neck Torsion bare Hitch. E trailer's sales consultant Bridget was very helpfull, very knowledgeable. E trailer was very fast about getting me the part i needed. I am very pleased not only with the product but very pleased with E trailer. I have been recommending E trailer to my friends. Thanks.

Easy to install and works like a champ. Added bonus, when you have an expensive hitch attached, is more security.

Very happy with this product, was looking for something to tighten up the hitch area and this Immobilizer has done the job.

300 miles of hwy and 100 miles of washboard roads towing 8500 lbs... Welded lips ripped off the plate. Not worth its weight in scrap price. Pictures are on an older phone, if i can edit the review later I will try.

used it to take the sway/bounce out of the my 48" hitch extension. Worked!

Received on time and packaged well. Installed in less than 10 minutes onto my 2.5 inch hitch. No more movement.

I've used the 2.5" X 2" before and now needed the 2.5" x 2.5" anti-rattle. Great product and easy to use

I've not actually installed this immobilizer yet, but have held it in place, where it fits perfectly, and can imagine exactly how it will do the job I was looking for something to do. I was pleased to find it, and the helpful customer service rep pointed me to it immediately. Thanks,

Customer service is great on answering part questions

  • Recommended Blue Ox Immobilizer for 2 Factory Hitch Receiver
It sounds like your 2017 F-150 has a 2" hitch. You will want the Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II item # BX88224. The inner measurement where the ball mount or accessory installs is what you want to go off of. The Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II item # BX88225 you were looking at is for 2-1/2" hitches so it would be too big for your truck. I have linked a review video below.

  • Blue Ox Hitch Immobilizer Recommendation for Front Hitch of 2014 Jeep Wrangler
The two popular trailer hitch sizes are 2 inch and 2-1/2 inch which we have Blue Ox Immobilizers for both sizes as the part # BX88224 for a 2 inch hitch or part # BX88225 for a 2-1/2 inch hitch. Front hitches are basically always 2 inch hitches and on a lighter duty vehicle like a Jeep Wrangler this would especially be the case. I would be shocked if you didn't have a 2 inch hitch size but what you can do is double check by measuring the inner dimensions of the hitch.

  • Will Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer III Fit on 2016 Ford F250 Factory Trailer Hitch Receiver
The Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer III # BX88312 is a universal fit and we haven't had the opportunity to test it on a 2016 Ford F-250 factory trailer hitch so I can't verify how well it will fit on your truck. The same goes for a 9000 pound trailer since it doesn't actually carry a weight capacity rating. However, the Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II # BX88225 has reviews of customers reporting it worked very well with their trailers weighing 7000 pounds.

Even if the Immobilizer II # BX88225 did fit around your receiver, since it is for a 2-1/2" receiver opening anything that you put in the trailer hitch receiver would be too small for this to work properly. Instead I believe what you would need is the Immobilizer III # BX88312 which has a bracket that is 4" x 4" and is compatible with a 2" receiver opening. I have attached a photo showing these dimensions. I recommend trying to mock up this on your trailer hitch to see if this is compatible...

I went out to the warehouse with digital calipers to get the exact measurement of the receiver of the Curt Trailer Hitch # C15703 and found it to be 2.55" though it is possible for the hitch that is shipped to you to have slightly (and by slightly I mean a couple hundredths or thousandths of an inch) more or less room in the receiver. The Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer # BX88225 works on 2-1/2-inch hitches like yours to reduce motion of the connected item. This device uses two u-bolts that each pull in different directions - one up/down and the other left/right - to steady the connected item. Whenever additional connections are introduced in a system, such as by using a reducer sleeve like the Curt # 45405, there will always be more potential for random motion.

That said, you will need to measure as we have not yet tested this.
