Why Would Trailer Push and Pull Over Bumps on Highway

Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 04/17/2025

Question:

I have a 23 Lightning rated for 10k and pulling 10k with a chain-type WDH. When there are rolling bumps I get bad surging. Cruise and trailer e brake do not affect it. I doubt it is just hitch rattle. Tires all aired up. Havent seen anything on internet to fix it. Do u have a solution?

Hey Eric, is the trailer sitting level or is it maybe too nose down in the front? Typically this is caused by a trailer that is sitting low in the front or too much tongue weight relative to the total trailer weight. It should be between 10 and 15 percent of the total trailer weight.

Hey Eric, did adjusting the trailer to sit level help with the surging issue? I'm asking because your experience could really help others facing similar challenges.
