How to Haul a 180LB Mobility Scooter With a 2007 Honda Accord Sedan

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 07/03/2024

Question:

I have a 2007 Honda Accord V6 sedan and need to be able to take my mobility scooter with me. My scooter weighs about 180 with the batteries and the carrier itself weight 53lbs. Simply put can this hitch and a 1 1/4 to 2 inch adapter carry my scooter? Thanks

The only way you will be able to safely haul your 180lb mobility scooter is by putting it on Trailer # K2MMT4X6. The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24787 maxes out at 200lbs of tongue weight which your scooter and the 53lb carrier exceeds. Also the 1-1/4" to 2" Adapter # HTAD does reduce the receiver capacity by 50% so with the adapter you can only safely have 100lbs total for a hitch mounted accessory and the rack.

If you choose the trailer option you will also need a 4-Way # 118302 and Ball Mount # e47DR.

Hey, how did things go with using the trailer setup for your Accord and scooter? Your experience could point others in the right direction.

@RobinH. Unfortunately the transmission gave up the ghosts September and the car is long gone. Luckily I never purchased a hitch for the accord. Just continues to use my truck when I needed the scooter. The new Elantra I bought has a beautiful hideaway hitch available for it though and works flawlessly
