Reese Fifth Wheel - RP30075

Fifth-wheel trailer hitch provides excellent jaw-to-king-pin contact with a 2-jaw latching system. Non-binding, round-tube slider helps to eliminate clearance concerns during slow-speed turns. Rails and installation kit sold separately.

Features:

  • 2-Jaw locking system provides more jaw-to-king-pin contact than slide-bar models
    • Less rattle
    • Greater security
  • Round-tube slider provides clearance required for your short-bed pickup to turn safely at slow speeds
    • Prevents trailer from hitting the cab of your pickup during sharp, slow-speed turns
    • Inhibits binding and provides smooth operation
  • 4-Way pivoting head eases hookup on unlevel ground
  • 3" Height adjustment
  • Wide stance offers excellent stability
  • Black powder coat finish resists corrosion
  • Locking handle has cushioned grip
  • Above-bed rails and mounting kit sold separately
    • Fits Curt, Valley, Draw-Tite, Hidden-Hitch and Reese base rails
    • Cut installation time in half by using a vehicle-specific bracket kit instead of the universal kit

Specs:

  • Gross towing weight: 16,000 lbs
  • Vertical load limit: 4,000 lbs
  • Installed hitch height (including rails): 15" - 18"
  • Travel: 11" front to back
  • 5-Year limited warranty

Note: This fifth-wheel trailer hitch will not fit pickups with beds shorter than 6'. It also will not fit trucks with flareside/stepside bed. A minimum 13" extended trailer pin box is recommended. If using a slider, hitch will not adjust to lowest height setting.

Reese Double Jaw

Secure, 2-Piece Jaw

Unlike the more economical slide-bar models, the rounded, 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Round-Tube Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Video Transcript for Reese Fifth Wheel - Sliding Fifth Wheel - RP30075 Review

Today were going to review part number rp30075. This is the Reese Fifth Wheel Dual-Jaw Trailer Hitch with the round tube sliders and has a 16,000-pound weight capacity. This fifth wheel trailer hitch has the two-jaw locking system, which will provide more jaw-to-king-pin contact than the economical slide-bar models. Basically Im just going to show you the dual jaws here. If I pull open the hitch you can see the two jaws, one on each side, and when its closed it would wrap around the king pin and it will give less rattle and greater security. This hitch also uses a four-way pivoting head, which you can see goes side-to-side and also front-to-back.

Thatll help ease hookup on unlevel ground. Also on this hitch, Im going to rotate it here to show you, there are four sets of holes here on the crossmember so you can do a height adjustment to get it at the right height above your truck bed. Theres a range of three inches. If you put the bolts in the top set of holes that would be a 15-inch hitch height above the truck bed. If you bolt it into the bottom set of holes that would give you 18-inch maximum, so anywhere from 15-inch to 18-inch hitch height adjustment.

Now this hitch and these legs do have a black powder coat finish which will help resist corrosion. Also comes with the locking handle which has the cushioned grip. Now for demonstration purposes, I already have the sliders mounted on the base rails in this demonstration, but the actual above-bed rails and the install kit is sold separately. You would have to get the correct kit for your vehicle. Now we do recommend the custom mounting kit because that would use the existing holes in your frames so it will minimize the drilling and it would cut the installation time in half when compared to a universal kit.

This hitch will also fit the Curt, Valley, Draw-Tite, Hidden-Hitch, and Reese base rails. This hitch has a gross towing weight capacity of 16,000 pounds, has a vertical load limit of 4,000 pounds. I mentioned the hitch height adjustment of 15-to-18 inches. The travel on this round-tube slider is 11 inches from front to back and it does come with a five-year limited warrantee. I do want to show the features here on the handle.

Theres a handle latch right here that you would put in the open position, and with that open that will allow you the pull the handle out, and theres a notch here that the handle would lock onto. With that open, both dual jaws are open, ready for the king pin to come in. Once the king pin comes in, if you release it the jaws will wrap around the king pin. Once its fully installed you just take this handle latch, push it down over the handle, and that would lock it into place so nobody can operate the handle and open the jaws around the king pin. Another nice feature is if you look on this latch here, there is a hole right here and there is a hole down here on the bracket, so when you close this handle latch the holes will line up. You can put a pin and lock or a pin and clip through there, or you can put a padlock through there for additional security. Padlock would be sold separately. Now also I want to show you the handle for the round-tube slider legs. Basically with the handle in the straight upright position, that would be the unlock position, that will allow the legs on the round-tube slider to move front and back 11 inches. Now once you are pulling to a camping site and youre wanting to maneuver your fifth wheel around into position, you might have to do some sharp turns where the trailer would get close to the cab of the truck. What you want to do is right here, if you pull it this way it will say maneuvering position. Thats the lock position from maneuvering. What that will do is slide on the round-tube sliders until it gets as far as it can towards your tailgate or towards the fifth wheel, and then it would lock into place. That would give you that extra clearance between your truck cab and your fifth wheel trailer. Then you can do your maneuvering. Now once youre done camping and youre ready to get on the road, to tow your trailer what you want to do is you can push it into the towing position, which is the lock position. Then the slider legs will slide on the round-tube sliders all the way this way towards the cab and then lock into place. With that, the fifth wheel is moved closer to the truck cab for just your towing purposes where you wont be doing any sharp turns. One last feature I want to show you on the back of this fifth wheel is there is a large pivot bolt. The fifth wheel hitch head is on this pivot beam. This bolt slides through and holds it all into position. If you did want to take the hitch head off, you can just pop out this pin and clip, and that bolt would slide out, and then that whole top would come off so its a very quick installation or removal, either way. Again, this does come with a five-year limited warrantee. That should do it for review on part number rp30075.

Product is as it was described. Straight forward installation. Only problem I had was minor shipping damage. The ear of the 5th wheel plate was bent from it being dropped I would guess. Better packaging would've solved this... 312607

  • Converting Fixed Reese 16K 5th Wheel Hitch to Slider for Cab Clearance with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
  • It sounds like you have the Reese 16K 5th Wheel Hitch model # RP30047. If this is the case then you can simply replace the fixed legs with the Reese Square Tube Slider # RP30048 in order to convert it to a sliding model. Please keep in mind though that while a sliding hitch will certainly provide you with more cab clearance compared to a fixed unit, typically with a 5-1/2 foot bed a pivoting pin box on the trailer is needed to allow for 90 degree turns. The Reese slider will offer 10...

With fifth wheel hitch you actually don't really need them to sit higher than the bed rails of the truck. It's actually the opposite in nearly every situation that the hitch sits below the top of the bed rails. The pin box of the truck extends down far enough to compensate for that.
