What 5th Wheel Hitch do I Need to Pair with My MORryde Rubber Pin Box, in Silverado OEM Prep?

Updated 01/25/2026 | Published 01/18/2026

Question:

We just purchased a North Point 382FLRB with a Mor-Ryde Rubber Pin Box. I will be towing it with a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, that has a puck system installed in the 6-3/4 bed. The dealer rep wasnt too knowledgeable about what type of hitch and suggested an aluminum one that had a ball on the top. I dont think this is right for this pin box, but I cant say for sure. Figured Id better ask someone who knew. I was thinking this hitch was more of what I would need. I dont want them to install something that wouldnt work. The one they were planning on installing looked like an aluminum pyramid with a ball on top. Said it weighed 75 lbs.

Hello Dan,

Welcome to etrailer. I am really glad you found us!

First off, congrats on the North Point!!

You are absolutely right to question the salesperson’s recommendation. Unfortunately, some dealers focus more on moving units than on making sure the towing setup is actually correct. From what you described, it sounds like they were trying to sell you a gooseneck-style setup, but with a MORryde Rubber Pin Box, you definitely need a true fifth wheel hitch, not a ball-style hitch.

It looks like you were already on the right track when you asked about the B and W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Chevy GMC Towing Prep Package, 20,000 lbs # BWRVK3710. That is one of my favorite hitches as well. The # BWRVK3710 is a great choice if you have an 8 foot bed.

Since your truck has the standard 6 3/4 foot bed, I would strongly recommend going with a slider hitch so you have the extra cab clearance in tight turns. The last thing you want is to end a trip early because the trailer contacted the cab. In that case, the B and W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch with Slider for Chevy GMC Towing Prep Package, 20,000 lbs # BWRVK3775 would be the right option.

Is this your first fifth wheel, or are you just upgrading to a new one?

@Dan One of the states that touches us as we are located in Missouri. Fall Creek Falls Park is in Tennessee and is definitely up there on the list of places I have explored. The hike down to the waterfall is awesome, and the freezing water is so refreshing on a hot summers day!

Do you think I could install it myself? Maybe with help?

@Dan The install is very simple with the OEM prep package. The hardest part will be lifting it into the bed, I definitely suggest getting some help with that. The install is a easy as putting it in the puck system and then pulling the levers over.

I have a 2020 gmc sierra 3500hd with a short bed. What was recommended to me was the B&w companion but I did not get the slider. So far I’ve hauled my fifth wheel toyhauler from northern Nebraska down to Arizona with no problems. Key is just don’t try too tight of a turn. U have to watch ur bed clearance on tighter turns. What the dealer is trying to sell u sounds like a gooseneck which would allow u for tighter turns. I dont have experience with a gooseneck so cant give pros or cons there. I was told I should get a slide hitch by some ppl bc of the short bed but I was also told by others I didn’t need it. The guy I bought my camper from helped me install my hitch to the proper measurements and I haven’t had any issues.

@GwynnB Great pointer, Gwynn! We always recommend going with a slider when you have a standard-size bed, since it’s the option we know will work every time. Many newer 5th wheels are now designed with a more tapered nose, which can help eliminate clearance issues. If anyone is unsure whether they’ll have enough clearance, we have a great YouTube video that walks through how to measure and determine if a slider is needed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGuGzNDJJSA

Purchased the B&W Companion to tow our 35 foot Solitude with our Silverado 3500. This setup has worked flawlessly for the last 2+ years using the GM puck mounting configuration. I have a 8’ bed, so don’t have a slider hitch just the straight companion. Have had no regrets about paying a little more for the quality of the B&W hitch.

@Mike Not to mention that B&W will now take care of you for life Mike. There is a reason why we do not carry replacement parts for their hitches, all you have to do is give them a call =)

I have a 2025 gmc 3500 SRW with the standard 6‘7“ bed. I also have the OEM puck system. I also have a newer Jayco fifth wheel and chose to go with the B&W companion without the slide. I use my set up quite a bit and have zero issues. The Jayco knows is slightly cut on the corners plus companion is slightly adjustable to put the Hitch a couple inches closer to the rear of the truck. I have plenty of room for any turn.
