Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 20135 Review

Today, we're going to review part number 20135. This is the Tow Ready multi-plug OEM replacement harness. This kit will let you add a 7 way RV style trailer connector and a 4 way connector to your vehicle. It has the factory tow package. This is a custom fit part number. It is designed to plug into a Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, and Mitsubishi vehicles, starting in the year 2000, that have the factory 7 way connector.

I would recommend this to go to our fit guide on our website, and you can put in your year and model of those vehicles, and it would tell you if this would be the correct part number for your application. This is a plug in, simple installation. There's no cutting or splicing required. This wiring harness, basically, will plug into your factor wiring at the back of the vehicle. The plug right here is extremely durable ABS plastic construction. It has a nice, oversized lid hinge right up here.

It helps keep out any dirt and moisture from getting to the terminals. It also has nice, enhanced weatherproofing. They do use seals on the cap itself, and the terminals are corrosion resistant. It does include the mounting bracket and the screws. They're all included. Basically, what you would do is, before you go and plug this in to the back of your vehicle, I would take your mounting bracket, slide it on.

Slide the four way also through there. Bring it all the way up, and you can see that it will line up. The holes on the mounting bracket will line up with the holes right there. At the very top, you'll see the holes for mounting it to the vehicle. Then, what's nice is, you'll see this little cutout on the side.

Basically, that's where you can just slide in your 4 way just like that. Then, plug this in and with this plugged in, this would be at the back of your vehicle. You have access to the 7 way, and then the 4 way, just like that. That should do it for the review on part number 20135, the Tow Ready multi-plug OEM replacement harness. .

Ask the Experts about this Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring

  • Is Prodigy P3 Brake Controller a Plug and Play Installation on 2006 Freightliner XC Chassis
The Multi-Plug T-One Connector Assembly # 20135 is not a fit for your 2006 Freightliner XC chassis; it is a replacement socket for some vehicles that have a factory 7-way already. That said, if your '06 Freightliner XC has the factory tow package the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195 is a plug-and-play installation. The only other part you would need is the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3027-P which plugs into brake controller harness under your dash. The 6-way you have on your...

  • Need A 7-Way Plug For 2003 Dodge Ram Pickup That Has 4-Way Wiring
Thank you for the photo. The picture you sent is a 4-way connector on the Ram pickup. The Multi-Plug T-One Connector Assembly for 7-Way & 4 Pole Trailer Connector part # 20135 is designed for pickups that came with the factory 7-Way connector because it is intended as a replacement part. It is possible that you have the correct connection point but it is further up behind the bumper and someone installed a 4-Way connector there. If you follow the wiring up behind the bumper and the wiring...

  • Installing a 7-Way Trailer Socket on 2001 Dodge Ram Pickup
If your truck had a factory 7-way installed, then the part you referenced, TowReady # 20135, will receive all required signals from the vehicle connector where it plugs in. If you are installing a 4-pole to 7-Way adapter like the Hopkins # 37185 in order to use your Hayes trailer brake controller, you will find the extra wires for the 12V trailer feed (the black wire on the Hopkins) and for the trailer brake signal feed (the blue wire on the Hopkins adapter) under the vehicle on the...

  • Troubleshooting Replacement 7-Way on 2002 Dodge Van Not Powering Trailer Lights
If you are replacing a factory 7-Way on your 2002 Dodge Van then the Tekonsha Multi-Plug T-One # 20135 that you referenced is the correct harness. If you plugged this into the factory port under the vehicle and it's not working to power the trailer lights then there are a couple of things you can look at. With the new plug installed I first recommend using a circuit tester like # 40376 to test the light circuit pins on the 7-Way with the corresponding function powered on the van. Check...

  • Where Does 7-Way Trailer Wiring Install on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
If you had the 7-way wiring connector on your 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee to install the wiring harness part # 20135 the connector would be under the rear of the vehicle near the rear bumper. It would be a square connector typically found right behind the bumper.

The multi-plug connector # 20135 does have the mating rectangular connector that will plug into the one on your 2003 Dodge Van. This connector is meant as a replacement. If your van did not come with a factory installed 7-Way then it is possible that only the light functions will be active. If the van did not come with a factory trailer connector and the pins on that rectangular connector are not active (which you can test with a circuit tester such as # 40376) then to add a 4- and 7-Way...

All you would need to install a brake controller in your 2001 Dodge Ram is the correct install harness. For that you would want the # 3020-P harness. If this is the case, all you would need is a brake controller and the wiring harness to plug the controller into the port under the dash. Our most popular brake controller is the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. It is a pretty easy controller to use and is quite effective. As long as the corresponding socket located behind the bumper is still intact, the Tow Ready # 20135 will replace the damaged 7-way trailer connector. You can use a circuit tester like part # 40376 to test the existing connector to ensure it is still functional. This is done by activating the lighting circuits (headlight, taillight and turn signal) and testing the pins and making sure they light the tester. I have linked you to a video showing how the tester is used.
