Recently purchased the wiring harness for my new vehicle. I called customer service and the lady was very helpful in getting the right harness for me. The harness was MUCH easier to install than expected. I had an electrical short on MY end of the trailer connection that I got fixed (had nothing to do with the harness product), and the harness worked perfectly. Very satisfied with the product and support from the company. The video showing the installation process was very helpful. 87795

Still very pleased with the harness. I have used it multiple times and it is still perfect. Would absolutely recommend both the product and the company because of the quality of product and customer service

2011 Ford Explorer

I just bought a new 2011 Ford Explorer, I need to tow a small utility trailer. I was unsure how this harness would be plugged in, but it was so easy a 5 year old could do it. I found the Ford provided trailer harness behind the right rear tire above the muffler, this harness clipped right in, I used the original cap on the other end to cap the male end off. I have only one bad comment, the zip ties provided are not long enough to go around the trailer hitch pipe. So I doubled up or used ones I had. There is plenty of length to get me to the hook up. Make sure you keep it away from the hot pipes. See attached pics. I submitted a couple questions to etrailer.com and they were very responsive. 24303

2013 Ford Explorer

Only had it a few days, but already loving it. Some cold weather and non-ideal working angle(see photos) made for an extended install on my '13 explorer base, but install was smooth as can be. Build quality seems second to none. Only thing left is to hook it up and take it for a spin!! Only 1 thing regarding the matching T wiring harness: more zip ties please Thanks guys and gals at etrailer !! 359642

2014 Ford Explorer

Perfect fit. I watched the video for installation and found that my 2014 Ford Explorer didn’t have the same connection pictured. Mine terminated with a cap instead of being connected in series like the video. Once I figured that out with the help of customer service (who was awesome by the way) I pulled it off and hooked it right up. Zero problems. These folks do a great job of knowing their product and providing great service. This is my third hitch install with etrailer.com. 619926

Worked out just perfect. It was a little tough getting my cars plug unplugged but that was an issue with wiring harness. It was a perfect fit. I would suggest that the manufacture include longer zip ties to help with the installation. The ones that are provided are way to short. I watched several install videos for both the hitch and the wiring harness and each video said the same thing. The zip ties that are included are way to short and you really need ties that are at least 10 inches long. 792966

Perfect fit, plug and play no additional ground wires to connet. Este es el mejor harness para mi explorer, me dio un poco de trabajo separar el conector original por que tenia mucho polvo acumulado y lo tuve que limpiar muy bien con electrical contact cleaner para que despegara, pero el harness se ploguetea de maravilla. Ford Explorer

Can't say enough good things about the company or product. I love to get things done right with the smallest amount of money possible. Price was beyond competitive. I saved over 100.00 on the hitch itself...40.00 on the wiring. And thanks to the extremely easy to follow instructional videos! I saved 200.00 plus on labor. Im not very mechanically inclined probably less than mediocre. And it was tough but simple. I spoke to a mechanic and he told me not to worry about torquing the bolts and I had enough ground clearance on my explorer to do it with any lift or jacks. Thanks 779254

Ask the Experts about this Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring

  • Difference Between Curt # C56172 and Tekonsha # 118540 T-One Wiring Harnesses
Both the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56172 and the Tekonsha T-One Harness # 118540 referenced in your question are confirmed to fit the 2011-2018 Ford Explorer. Both harnesses will install the exact same way, by plugging into a built-in port located beneath the rear of the Explorer, on the passenger's side. They will provide you with a 4-Way connector that connects with and powers a trailer's basic signal lights. The only difference between the two harnesses is simply...

  • Does Trailer Wiring Harness for 2019 Ford Explorer Need a Converter
No, your 2019 Ford Explorer doesn't need a converter for its trailer wiring so part # 118540 is exactly what you need. Some vehicles need a converter to protect their wiring from being damaged if there's a back feed from the trailer. Usually it's on harnesses that connect inline with the rear tail lights. Since your Explorer has factory connectors that this harness mates right up with it's already protected and a converter on the harness isn't necessary. I've linked a video from when...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2012 Ford Explorer without Factory Tow Package
If your 2012 Ford Explorer did not come with the factory tow package then there is no guarantee that the proper connector will be present on the vehicle or, if it is, that it is active. The safe option then is to use a harness that will work with models that do not have the factory tow package such as # HM40285. You could then add a 7-Way and retain the use of the 4-Way by installing # ETBC7. And if a brake controller is needed I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it is easy to set up...

  • Differences Between Available Trailer Wiring Harnesses for 2012 Ford Explorer
You can use the Tow Ready # 118540 with no problems, as long as your Explorer is equipped with the connector shown in the photo I provided. The signals used at this connection point are already converted, so no additional converter is needed. This connection is circuit protected by existing fuses, so there is no risk involved with using this harness. The Curt harness that uses the converter attaches directly behind the tail lights, at which point the signals are not converted, which...

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness With 4-Way And 7-Way Connector For 2014 Ford Explorer
If you have no trailer connector on your Explorer there are a couple things you will need to get a functioning 4-way and 7-way connector. First you will need to install a 4-way wiring harness like part # 118540. This is a simple installation.
