Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Power Module

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2012 Chrysler Town and Country

Today on our 2012 Chrysler Town & Country well be installing the Tow Ready T1 Connector, part number 118534. Now to begin our installation were going to open the rear tailgate to access the screws that hold the taillights in place. Well remove the bolts holding the taillights and carefully pry the taillight housing rearward away from the vehicle being very careful not to break the alignment tabs. Once weve removed the taillights from the vehicle we can pull the red tab here on the connector. Well then push the button and allow the connector to separate. Now here on the drivers side well take the T connector in with the yellow wire and connect it to the vehicle wiring and lock it into place.

Well now drop the entire wiring kit down behind the bumper cover where we can then move underneath the vehicle and route our green wire across between the bumper and the bumper cover itself. Well route the green wire up behind the fascia to the passengers side taillight area where we can then connect it to the vehicle wiring here on the passengers side. With the green wire connected, we can then connect the other side of our T connector to the passengers side taillight and go ahead and reassemble the passengers side taillight to the vehicle. Well now move underneath the vehicle where well find our modulite box. Well pass it back behind the bumper cover to the drivers side taillight area.

Now youll want to do this because the green wire that runs to the passengers side may be short if you dont run it first. Now that we have our modulite box here in the drivers side, well need to connect our black wire supplied with the install kit that will run up to our battery. Well use one of the two yellow butt connectors included with the kit. Well strip back the insulation and connect the two wires together using the yellow butt connector. With that done we can pass the black wire down to the bottom of the vehicle behind the bumper cover.

Well also take our 4-pole connector and pass it down behind the bumper cover to the bottom of the vehicle. We can then remove the adhesive tape protector on the back of the modulite box and after cleaning the surface of the vehicle go ahead and adhere it making sure to keep it clear of our taillight housing. At this point well also need to install our ground. In the modulite box kit is a self tapping screw. Well use that screw to make our ground.

Well put the white wire with the eyelet through the self tapping screw and make a ground connection here on the body of the vehicle. Now with all that done, we can go ahead and reinstall our drivers side taillight remembering to plug the other side of the T1 connector into the back of the taillight housing. Back underneath the vehicle here we can go ahead and pull out the remaining black wire as well as our 4-pole harness. Well route our 4-pole toward the center of the vehicle making sure its secure between the bumper and the rear bumper fascia itself. Were now ready to route our black wire. Now weve gone ahead and began our wiring installation before the hitch was installed. Well go ahead and install our hitch now just to show you what it would look like with the hitch on it. Well now route our black wire up toward our battery. Well need to make sure we stay away from any hot components such as your vehicles exhaust or moving components like the vehicle suspension. The way I like to run it is following a factory wiring harness or the brake lines. This will give you a good attachment point to attach the wire to using the black zip ties included with the kit. Up here with the engine compartment weve ran our black wire and were ready to connect our fuse holder. Well cut the excess black wire and strip back the insulation. Well then use the other yellow butt connector and attach it to the black wire. We can then grab our fuse holder where well cut the wire and strip the insulation and attach that end to the other side of the butt connector. Now on the other side of our fuse holder, well strip the insulation back and install our yellow ring terminal. With that installed we can then undo the battery positive terminal and connect our ring terminal to it. With that done well take our blue 15-amp fuse and install it into our fuse holder which will complete the installation of the Tow Ready T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness, part number 118534 on our 2012 Chrysler Town & Country.

I used a tip from another reviewer and ran wires for right side under plastic trim inside along bottom, back door opening. I put the control box in the left taillight housing. Trailer plug stays in Jack compartment when not in use. Heres a new idea tho- my van has a rear cigarette lighter plug. I ran the 12 v power wire to this plug. Remove face panel that has plug, disconnect power plug from back of lighter socket. Run new power wire from control box, fish thru side housing inside van to lighter plug, install spade terminal on wire, cut off one leg of spade terminal, plug into lighter wire plug (terminal connecting to center of lighter is the hot wire), fold wire back over plug and tape in place. The lighter is not reconnected and will no longer work. Reassemble all. I use dielectric grease on all connections. The lighter wires are small so only use for LED trailer lights! Note: all wires are inside. 553184

The manufacturer recommends connecting the power feed directly to the positive battery post for a pretty good reason. Doing so completely isolates the vehicles sophisticated and expensive to repair electrical system from any shorts that could occur in the trailer wiring. Will doom and destruction occur by installing it the way you have? Likely not, but any warranty protection offered by the manufacturer will be void. As you noted, the wires feeding the 12v socket in the cargo area are very thin gauge. A future owner of the vehicle might not know that, and use the harness with incandescent lights which could cause a problem.

I have not hoo me ed it up to a trailer yet, but the product is exactly as advertised. I utilized the convenient video provided by etrailer.com and had it put in properly in no time. The only thing I would suggest is that the manufacturer provide more than one battery connection loop and more than one wire quick connect. The ones provided slipped off and I had to run up to the store to get more which required me to put the project, tail lights etc., back on the car so I could drive safely. Even with this hick up I still had it fully installed with in 2 hours. 130717

I installed this product exactly according to the online video. I put this kit on a 2015 Chrysler Town & Country. After putting it on, the left blinker on the van no longer works as it should. That backup light also doesn't light. It does ok at lighting the trailer lights, although it has the same problem with the left blinker. I contacted the company, who's rep first said I must have got dirt in the contacts, except they were clean like a new vehicle, and when I followed up again I got no response at all. 560862

I found the T-One wiring harness for my 2014 Town and Country to be a perfect fit. Some reviews indicated that the green wire going to the right-side rear lamp assembly might be a bit short, but I found that it was more than long enough. The installation video provided by etrailer is excellent and is a valuable addition to the thorough written instructions provided. The video was most helpful in routing the power wire up to the battery. I made two small changes to their recommended installation: 1) I used water-proof butt connectors that are heat-shrunk over the positive power supply connections instead of the ones supplied in the kit, and 2) I routed the flat 4-conductor connector up inside to the jack storage compartment. I live in upstate NY and the snow causes extreme environmental issues with connectors exposed on the underside of a vehicle. It's easily accessed when I use my boat trailer. Total installation time for me was about 1 hour. The most difficult part being routing the power wire along the underside of the vehicle and up to the battery. It's not hard, but just takes a little time to secure it and keep it away from hot exhaust parts and moving parts. I used a total of about 25 wire ties - all that were included in the kit and some additional ones that I supplied. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the quality of this product, the ease of installation, and I expect that it will provide me with years of service. Highly recommended product and supplier. Fast and free shipping (I also ordered the hitch) with email status updates that informed me of exactly what was going on between the time I placed my online order and when the product was delivered. Thanks etrailer! 476676

I have absolutely no complaints. Your products worked as advertised and I have had no issues with either the hitch or the wiring. Im still a very satisfied customer and should I ever need any trailer parts or accessories in the future, I will surely be a repeat customer of etrailer!

Installation went great, made possible by etrailer's instructional video (search YouTube for "etrailer wiring 2013 town and country"). Without the video, installation would have been much more difficult as the written instructions that come with the wiring kit are not very good at all. Like is stated in the video, you will need some additional zip ties that are longer than the ones supplied in the kit. 130091

Purchased trailer hitch and wiring harness for my 2016 Chrysler Town and Country mini van. The installation video was "spot on" and allowed the installation to be a simple task. The installation allowed me to plan the installation. In less than 3 hours the job was complete. It only took about 1 hour to install the hitch after watching the detailed installation video. The key was having all tools available based on video. I am a first time trailer hitch installation. I was amazed at the product quality and price. I am a first time etrailer customer and "hitched" on being a return customer. Etrailer is an excellent company with excellent customer service! Thanks Heather H! 300859

My hitch installation went well. The wiring kit installation, however, did not. The wire that goes from the left rear lamp to the right rear lamp was about 12" too short. The black wire that goes to the battery was about 6' too short. In trying to figure out what went wrong, and then making about 3 trips to the auto parts store, and then splicing in additional length of wires, I spent pretty much the whole day completing this project. My suspicion is that the wiring kit was a returned package. The plastic enclosure was taped closed and the black wire inside was not neatly wound, like a new wire would be - and like what was shown in the picture on the instruction sheet. If that is the case, I would like to recommend that you do not sell returned wiring kits unless they are completely inspected, including measuring the wires. The job is done, it just took alot longer than it should have and cost me a little more than it should have. 129954

Instructions are very clear. Everything is exactly the right length; for my Grand Caravan there is about 12 inches of lead from the bumper to the trailer hook up. Perfect! I chose to run the black power lead inside the car, up the driver's side, instead of underneath as shown in the instructions. I ran the wire through new holes I poked in the taillight wire gromet and then through the hood latch gromet, upper left side in front of driver's feet. Easy to install and works great!!! Thank you etrailer.com. 23609

Install was pretty simple, took about an hour. This kit was thought out and tested, this was obvious when you find that all of the wire lengths are perfect. One piece of advice, when removing the connector from the light assembly, slide red piece up, then press the black piece that was under the red slide, once you figure this out it slides apart easily. I am not a big fan of butt connectors, typically I solder wires together. I did use the butt connectors, but, I will probably go back and solder them together. 74753

A short circuit in the wiring on the trailer is the usual cause of a trailer taillight converter going bad. The fact that the converter failed prevented the short circuit from damaging the electrical system on your vehicle from being damaged. Before installing a new converter, its recommended to closely examine the wiring on the trailer, beginning at the trailer connector. Work your way back to each lamp, looking for loose connections, pinched wires or wires with the insulation worn away that would allow the copper wire to short out on the trailer frame.

Product arrived promptly, and as described. Instruction sheet has an error, as it shows the Module being mounted in the tail light visible area on my 2013 Chry T&C . The green wire is too short Follow the VIDEO (!) , except, do not mount the module until you have the right hand tail light sockets done. (and leave handling length !) The GREEN Wire is too short to do that ! Had to remount the module down below the open area, about 6-8 inches lower in the cavity in order to plug in the sockets on the right side light. Also found vent flaps from the car jack area, so was able to feed the trailer socket and wire into the jack storage through this vent. Now the trailer plug is inside and only exposed when using a trailer by letting the door weather strip close on the wires. Used 3/8" flex cover (plastic conduit) from Home Depot so all wires are protected from the heavy winter snow undercarriage we get here up north. I think it is a very nice kit , and the wire ties included show the good thought that the manufacturer put into it. Too bad the green wire skimped on length about 6-8 inches 121126

SO PLEASED WITH THIS PRODUCT!!!!! I was a little apprehensive at first, since my van was new. After reading descriptions and reviews of other brands, I chose this one. I laid out everything, read and re-read the instructions, just to make sure. Installation was very easy! Dodge Caravans have cabin vents in the fender wells so you can run the wires through, to have the wires be protected and hidden. I did add some half-inch flex tubing for the underside wiring runs, for more protection, and some zip strips to hold it in place. Installing the yellow wire with the fuse holder went pretty easy too! This kit had enough slack to do the job right! After everything was in place, and the tail lights put back on, tested it and everything worked! Recently I replaced my trailer lights, from bulbs to LED's, and that also turned out great! Very bright too! Since the install last year, I have not ceased in telling everyone I know to go to ETrailer!!! Thanks!!! 524634

The only reason I am giving this a 4 is because i had to run a cable all the way to the battery. But I think that's a VW problem not the wiring harness. It was super easy to install other then that. Just unplug the connectors that go to your tail lights and plug in the new harness and your good to go. Works great too, no problems with lights for the trailer after a full year of using it. 256278

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring for a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan
The wiring options for your 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan all install the same way and provide you with a 4-Way flat connector for your basic lighting functions on your trailer. The only exception is the Tekonsha part # 22121 which provides a 7-Way and the ability to add a brake controller. Since your trailer doesn't have brakes it would be better to stick with a 4-Way. Out of the available options, I recommend going with the Tekonsha T-One # 118534. We have found that Tekonsha is the most...

Whether you'd install the brake controller and 7-way now or later would not make a difference as first you'll always need to install a 4-way and then use the # ETBC7 to convert to a 7-way and install the brake controller. There may actually be 2 problems. First, you will need to test the 4-Way end on your 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan without the trailer connected to see if it is working. I have included a link to a help article that will help troubleshoot. If the unit does not have power at all make sure that the fuse for the power wire isn't blown and that it is still attached to the positive battery terminal. You will also need to make sure that the unit is still properly grounded. You may need to re-establish...

  • Troubleshooting A Curt Trailer Wiring Harness On A 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan
On your 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan, the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness most likely did have the powered converter go bad if the fuses are still good. You can check the power going into and out of that unit using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 as well as both sides of your fuse to make sure the connections are good coming and going from the fuse itself. If you are interested in another brand of wiring harness because this one failed so soon, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle...

  • Troubleshooting a Tow Ready Wiring Harness on a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan that Keeps Blowing Fuses
Something is going on with the installation of the Tow Ready Wiring Harness part # 118534 on your 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. It should not be blowing the fuse under normal towing situations, but even more so without a trailer being connected. What I would recommend you do is go over all of the connections this harness makes to your vehicle to see if there is anything out of place that could be causing a short. Also, check that there aren't any cut or exposed sections of the power wire...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Blows Power Fuse when Starting 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan
You might need to check the power wire connection on wiring harness # 118534. Make sure it is connected to the positive battery terminal and not to any other power source such as the alternator. Also check the ground connection for the converter box. It needs to be attached to a clean bare metal surface; no paint either. And I also recommend grounding the converter by itself and not to share ground locations with other electrical components.

  • Does Trailer Wiring For 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan have to Run to Battery
Not all vehicles can handle the additional amperage draw of the trailer taillights on the vehicle taillight circuits. Those vehicles need setup that draws power from the battery. Some vehicles have higher rated circuits that can handle this, and others need to have the power drawn straight from the battery to protect the taillight circuits to protect them. For your 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan you need to install a harness that draws power from the battery to protect the taillight circuits....

  • Trailer Wiring on 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan Not Working After Connecting to Miswired Trailer
I am assuming that you also checked the fuse for the trailer wiring harness (if it is one that requires power from the battery). If not be sure to check that one on your 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan. If the power wire fuse is still good then what likely happened is the short was bad enough to blow the converter box. That means it did exactly what it was supposed to do; it took the hit to protect the vehicle. A noble death indeed. To test the converter you can use a circuit tester such...

  • Troubleshooting Tow Ready 4-Pole Wiring Harness 118534 on 2012 Chrysler Town and Country
Tow Ready 4-pole harness # 118534 is a confirmed fit for your 2012 Chrysler Town and Country. When a specific light function does not work, while others do work, usually the ground is the culprit. It sounds like you have checked both the wiring harness ground at the vehicle and the trailer wiring harness ground at the trailer frame to make sure both are making solid bare-metal-to-bare-metal contact. The next thing to check is the black power wire that you ran up to the battery positive...

  • Running Wire Inside Vehicle When Installing Wiring Harness On 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan
Since the area we live in does not have the harsh weather you have we do not have a video of the wiring being run as you requested. The T-One harness that is designed to fit your 2015 Grand Caravan is part # 118534. when installing this harness, you have only one wire that needs to be run to the battery. The harness plugs into the vehicle wiring behind the tail lights. Since you remove the tail lights to access the wiring connectors, you do not have to worry about exposed wires there....

  • How Long Does it Take to Professionally Install Trailer Wiring on a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan
Installation of wiring harness # 118534 on any given vehicle depends on how the power wire is routed from the back of the vehicle to the front of the vehicle. It does take some time. If the tech just zip ties the wire to the bottom of the vehicle then it should not take very long at all, definitely not 3 hours. But if he takes care in where the wire gets ran to protect it I could see it taking that long. Also, there could be unforeseen complications that extend the installation time....

  • How to Install a Brake Controller in a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan
That we are aware of there isn't a brake control install port on a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. The only way to install a brake controller is to hardwire one in. You will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # 118534. From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions...

  • Tail Light Fuse Blows on Chrysler Town and Country with Tow Ready T-One Harness Installed
I'm sure you are already aware of this, but the M17 fuse is the fuse for your left tail light and license plate light. Since the fuse keeps blowing when the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, # 118534, is installed and it does not blow when the harness is removed, then that is a pretty good indication that the harness is the problem and it should be replaced. There is a good chance that the converter box shorted out causing the fuse to blow. A new wiring harness will most likely fix the...

  • Continuous Voltage on Trailer Connector Pins with Ignition Off
The issue you are describing does indeed sound like a failed converter box. It is not uncommon for converter boxes to fail over time especially if they are not properly secured. You will need to replace the entire unit in order to get your trailer lights functioning properly again. Through our experience, we have found that Tekonsha wiring products last much longer and experience fewer problems than most other brands. In order to replace the trailer wiring harness on your 2014 Dodge...

  • Drivers Side Tail Light Fuse Blows Again on Chrysler Town and Country with Curt Wiring Harness
The chance of receiving two faulty converter boxes is very low and we have not had any recurring complaints on trailer wiring harnesses for the Chrysler Town and Country or Dodge Grand Caravan minivans. A blown tail light fuse could indicate that the converter box has shorted out allowing power to back feed onto the tail light circuit. The main causes that we find for faulty converter boxes are short circuits on the trailer, excessive power draw, and faulty installations. Before installing...

  • Does Computer of 2015 Chrysler Town and Country need to be Flashed to Install Trailer Wiring
Long story short...they were tired of dealing with your problem and either willfully lied to you or did so out of ignorance. They should know based on how the Tekonsha trailer wiring kit part # 118534 installs that it has nothing to do with the factory computer of the vehicle. That will not fix you problem. This installs by plugging inline with your taillight connectors and interprets the signals that are running to your taillights. Try checking to see if the taillights of your vehicle...
