Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Power Module

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan

Today in our 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan, what we'll be installing is Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector. Part number 118534. Here's what our wiring looks like installed. As you can see, we have an adequate length of wire to attach to our trailer. This wiring gives us the basic light functions that are required by law in order for us to tow a trailer. Included with this wiring harness is a nice dust cover to help protect the trailer connector when we're not towing our trailer. Also, one neat thing you can do with this is you can use this to secure your wiring up and out of the way so it's not dangling when you're driving down the road.

Just wrap the dust cover around your safety chain loop on your hitch and plug this in place. Now that we've gone over the features of our Tekonsha 4-Pole Flat Wiring Harness, we'll show you how to get it installed in your vehicle. To begin our install we have our tailgate open so we can access the screws that hold our tail light assemblies in place. There's two 10-millimeter screws on each of our tail light assemblies. With those screws removed we can grab the tail light assembly and pull it out towards us. We'll find a clip right there.

We'll slide the red tab away from the connector, push in on the tab, separate it. We'll repeat the same process with the other side. Okay we're on driver's side of the vehicle now. We'll drop down out T-connector here with the green wire. We'll do the same for our 4-pole flat wiring. Our yellow connector here we'll connect to the existing wiring that went to our tail light, push it in until it clips.

Now we'll take our black wire that comes with our kit and we'll attach it to our module here with the provided butt connector. We'll strip off a little bit more of the insulation and the black wire from our module. Take our butt connector. Stick it on. Clamp it down.

Here's our black wire roll. Let's strip off some of the installation from it. Insert it into the butt connector and crimp it down as well. I want to give it a nice tug and make sure it's secure. Okay now for a little added protection we'll take some electrical tape and tape up our butt connector. This will help prevent any moisture, dirt or debris from entering there causing a short or corrosion. The other end of our black power wire we'll drop down behind the fascia where the tail light is too. We'll make sure it comes out the bottom like our other wires did and we'll just pull the slack out. Now we'll take our white wire from our module. This is a ground wire. We'll attach this to the vehicle sheet metal using the provided self-tapping screw. It's a quarter-inch self-tapping screw. Okay now we'll make sure all of our wires are tucked up down below and we'll find a place to mount our module that's not going to interfere with our tail light when we reinstall it. Means we need to go down pretty low. We'll take our double-sided tape here, peel off the end of it and we'll place it on a flat surface. Right here on the side of the fascia will be fine. We'll press firmly to make sure it's secure. We'll take our tail light assembly and re-plug in the connector until it snaps in place and then we'll slide the lock tab, the red one, back down. Now we'll take our tail light assembly. Make sure pins go back in their perspective holes and I'll push it back in place. Now we'll take our screws and reinstall them. Okay we went ahead and routed our green wire with the connector for the passenger side and our 4-pole flat wire behind our fascia. We have these tabs here that secure our fascia to the bumper support. We went behind those. When we got next to the hitch receiver, we dropped our 4-pole flat wiring on down and our green wire just kept going all the way over to the end of the tab. Okay now we'll take a pole wire just using a piece of airline tubing. You can use a coat hanger. Okay we tape the end of our connector to the end of our pole wire and we'll just pull it up behind our tail light pocket making sure a wire goes above our exhaust. Now we'll plug our connector into our passenger side wiring. Make sure it snaps in. You have a little bit of excess wire here. Pull it up tight and secure the zip tie of the factory wiring. This will keep it from dangling below the vehicle. Now we'll plug our tail light housing back in. Again, we'll make sure we slide down our red lock tab once it's connected. Okay we went ahead and ran our power wire to the front of the vehicle making sure we took extra care to avoid any moving parts such as the suspension or any sources of heat such as the exhaust. We have it secured to the hitch here with a zip tie just to help keep it up and out of the way. Secure it here to this wiring harness for the ABS sensor. We went up and over the rear sub frame here. Went through this bracket for the upper shock mount. This'll protect it from the shock when it goes up and down. Came down. Went through this bracket her for our parking brake cable. We secured it to the cable in a couple of spots of zip ties and then went through this other support bracket for our front sub frame right behind our firewall. We went ahead and dropped down a pole wire right here from the engine bay and attach our two wires together and pull it on up into our engine bay. We'll cut off some of the excess right here. Strip off some of our insulation. Put a butt connector on. Crimp it down. Take our fuse holder now. You see it's a nice loop of wire. We'll cut it right in the middle. Strip off the insulation on both ends now. Place a ring terminal on one in the ends. Crimp it down. The other end will go inside of our butt connector. Okay now we'll take some electrical tape and just like we did our other connector in the back, we'll wrap it up so you don't have to worry about any shorts or corrosion happening from contaminants. We need to attach a ring terminal to the positive terminal of our battery so we're going to do that right here off this nut. It's a 10-millimeter. We'll also remove that. We don't have a fuse installed in our fuse holder at this point in time so I don't need to worry about anything. We're also holding this cable on so you don't have to worry about the computer being reset inside the vehicle. We'll just place that over the stud, reinstall the nut. We'll take our fuse and install it in the fuse holder and we'll close our dust cover over the fuse. Now we'll test all of our lighting. We're using a 4-pole flat trailer tester. It's part number I26 on our website if you'd like to purchase one. We'll start by turning our headlights on. You can see our tail light function's working for our trailer. Do a left turn signal. Right turn signal. I'll step on the brakes. That completes our installation of the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector. Part number 118534 on our 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan.

I installed this product exactly according to the online video. I put this kit on a 2015 Chrysler Town & Country. After putting it on, the left blinker on the van no longer works as it should. That backup light also doesn't light. It does ok at lighting the trailer lights, although it has the same problem with the left blinker. I contacted the company, who's rep first said I must have got dirt in the contacts, except they were clean like a new vehicle, and when I followed up again I got no response at all. 560862

I have not hoo me ed it up to a trailer yet, but the product is exactly as advertised. I utilized the convenient video provided by etrailer.com and had it put in properly in no time. The only thing I would suggest is that the manufacturer provide more than one battery connection loop and more than one wire quick connect. The ones provided slipped off and I had to run up to the store to get more which required me to put the project, tail lights etc., back on the car so I could drive safely. Even with this hick up I still had it fully installed with in 2 hours. 130717

2014 Chrysler Town and Country

I found the T-One wiring harness for my 2014 Town and Country to be a perfect fit. Some reviews indicated that the green wire going to the right-side rear lamp assembly might be a bit short, but I found that it was more than long enough. The installation video provided by etrailer is excellent and is a valuable addition to the thorough written instructions provided. The video was most helpful in routing the power wire up to the battery. I made two small changes to their recommended installation: 1) I used water-proof butt connectors that are heat-shrunk over the positive power supply connections instead of the ones supplied in the kit, and 2) I routed the flat 4-conductor connector up inside to the jack storage compartment. I live in upstate NY and the snow causes extreme environmental issues with connectors exposed on the underside of a vehicle. It's easily accessed when I use my boat trailer. Total installation time for me was about 1 hour. The most difficult part being routing the power wire along the underside of the vehicle and up to the battery. It's not hard, but just takes a little time to secure it and keep it away from hot exhaust parts and moving parts. I used a total of about 25 wire ties - all that were included in the kit and some additional ones that I supplied. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the quality of this product, the ease of installation, and I expect that it will provide me with years of service. Highly recommended product and supplier. Fast and free shipping (I also ordered the hitch) with email status updates that informed me of exactly what was going on between the time I placed my online order and when the product was delivered. Thanks etrailer! 476676

I have absolutely no complaints. Your products worked as advertised and I have had no issues with either the hitch or the wiring. Im still a very satisfied customer and should I ever need any trailer parts or accessories in the future, I will surely be a repeat customer of etrailer!

Purchased trailer hitch and wiring harness for my 2016 Chrysler Town and Country mini van. The installation video was "spot on" and allowed the installation to be a simple task. The installation allowed me to plan the installation. In less than 3 hours the job was complete. It only took about 1 hour to install the hitch after watching the detailed installation video. The key was having all tools available based on video. I am a first time trailer hitch installation. I was amazed at the product quality and price. I am a first time etrailer customer and "hitched" on being a return customer. Etrailer is an excellent company with excellent customer service! Thanks Heather H! 300859

Instructions are very clear. Everything is exactly the right length; for my Grand Caravan there is about 12 inches of lead from the bumper to the trailer hook up. Perfect! I chose to run the black power lead inside the car, up the driver's side, instead of underneath as shown in the instructions. I ran the wire through new holes I poked in the taillight wire gromet and then through the hood latch gromet, upper left side in front of driver's feet. Easy to install and works great!!! Thank you etrailer.com. 23609

My hitch installation went well. The wiring kit installation, however, did not. The wire that goes from the left rear lamp to the right rear lamp was about 12" too short. The black wire that goes to the battery was about 6' too short. In trying to figure out what went wrong, and then making about 3 trips to the auto parts store, and then splicing in additional length of wires, I spent pretty much the whole day completing this project. My suspicion is that the wiring kit was a returned package. The plastic enclosure was taped closed and the black wire inside was not neatly wound, like a new wire would be - and like what was shown in the picture on the instruction sheet. If that is the case, I would like to recommend that you do not sell returned wiring kits unless they are completely inspected, including measuring the wires. The job is done, it just took alot longer than it should have and cost me a little more than it should have. 129954

Installation went great, made possible by etrailer's instructional video (search YouTube for "etrailer wiring 2013 town and country"). Without the video, installation would have been much more difficult as the written instructions that come with the wiring kit are not very good at all. Like is stated in the video, you will need some additional zip ties that are longer than the ones supplied in the kit. 130091

I used a tip from another reviewer and ran wires for right side under plastic trim inside along bottom, back door opening. I put the control box in the left taillight housing. Trailer plug stays in Jack compartment when not in use. Heres a new idea tho- my van has a rear cigarette lighter plug. I ran the 12 v power wire to this plug. Remove face panel that has plug, disconnect power plug from back of lighter socket. Run new power wire from control box, fish thru side housing inside van to lighter plug, install spade terminal on wire, cut off one leg of spade terminal, plug into lighter wire plug (terminal connecting to center of lighter is the hot wire), fold wire back over plug and tape in place. The lighter is not reconnected and will no longer work. Reassemble all. I use dielectric grease on all connections. The lighter wires are small so only use for LED trailer lights! Note: all wires are inside. 553184

The manufacturer recommends connecting the power feed directly to the positive battery post for a pretty good reason. Doing so completely isolates the vehicles sophisticated and expensive to repair electrical system from any shorts that could occur in the trailer wiring. Will doom and destruction occur by installing it the way you have? Likely not, but any warranty protection offered by the manufacturer will be void. As you noted, the wires feeding the 12v socket in the cargo area are very thin gauge. A future owner of the vehicle might not know that, and use the harness with incandescent lights which could cause a problem.

Install was pretty simple, took about an hour. This kit was thought out and tested, this was obvious when you find that all of the wire lengths are perfect. One piece of advice, when removing the connector from the light assembly, slide red piece up, then press the black piece that was under the red slide, once you figure this out it slides apart easily. I am not a big fan of butt connectors, typically I solder wires together. I did use the butt connectors, but, I will probably go back and solder them together. 74753

A short circuit in the wiring on the trailer is the usual cause of a trailer taillight converter going bad. The fact that the converter failed prevented the short circuit from damaging the electrical system on your vehicle from being damaged. Before installing a new converter, its recommended to closely examine the wiring on the trailer, beginning at the trailer connector. Work your way back to each lamp, looking for loose connections, pinched wires or wires with the insulation worn away that would allow the copper wire to short out on the trailer frame.

Product arrived promptly, and as described. Instruction sheet has an error, as it shows the Module being mounted in the tail light visible area on my 2013 Chry T&C . The green wire is too short Follow the VIDEO (!) , except, do not mount the module until you have the right hand tail light sockets done. (and leave handling length !) The GREEN Wire is too short to do that ! Had to remount the module down below the open area, about 6-8 inches lower in the cavity in order to plug in the sockets on the right side light. Also found vent flaps from the car jack area, so was able to feed the trailer socket and wire into the jack storage through this vent. Now the trailer plug is inside and only exposed when using a trailer by letting the door weather strip close on the wires. Used 3/8" flex cover (plastic conduit) from Home Depot so all wires are protected from the heavy winter snow undercarriage we get here up north. I think it is a very nice kit , and the wire ties included show the good thought that the manufacturer put into it. Too bad the green wire skimped on length about 6-8 inches 121126

Yes, I found the same thing, the green wire is about 12 too short when installing on a 2013 Grand Caravan. Very annoying.

First, I want to compliment etrailer.com for their excellent customer service. I received notification that my order had been received and was shipped, along with tracking, shortly after placing my order. I received the item in a reasonable amount of time. The item itself is exactly what I needed, at a fair price, with reasonable shipping fees. I have already installed the trailer light wiring kit using the directions provided and the "you tube" video. The installation was relatively easy, and the kit included everything required to complete the job. Everything has been tested and works perfectly. Overall, GREAT job and I will certainly keep e-trailer.com in mind for future purchases. 175029

SO PLEASED WITH THIS PRODUCT!!!!! I was a little apprehensive at first, since my van was new. After reading descriptions and reviews of other brands, I chose this one. I laid out everything, read and re-read the instructions, just to make sure. Installation was very easy! Dodge Caravans have cabin vents in the fender wells so you can run the wires through, to have the wires be protected and hidden. I did add some half-inch flex tubing for the underside wiring runs, for more protection, and some zip strips to hold it in place. Installing the yellow wire with the fuse holder went pretty easy too! This kit had enough slack to do the job right! After everything was in place, and the tail lights put back on, tested it and everything worked! Recently I replaced my trailer lights, from bulbs to LED's, and that also turned out great! Very bright too! Since the install last year, I have not ceased in telling everyone I know to go to ETrailer!!! Thanks!!! 524634

The only reason I am giving this a 4 is because i had to run a cable all the way to the battery. But I think that's a VW problem not the wiring harness. It was super easy to install other then that. Just unplug the connectors that go to your tail lights and plug in the new harness and your good to go. Works great too, no problems with lights for the trailer after a full year of using it. 256278

After installing a receiver 13364 with my 12 yr old friend David, we were ready to install the wiring harness. In the past, I've always bought the el-cheapo kits that were available and dug around in the van wiring harnesses looking for the correct wires. Very time consuming and a lot of knowledge needed. This kit is a very reasonable price and as complete as they can get. After reading the directions, David did most of the work and enjoyed every minute of it. A perfect learning experience for a boy, which was both thought provoking and fun. It works as designed and the installation doesn't get any easier than this kit. 63574

OOPS! I guess I reviewed the wiring harness with my hitch review. The harness was also easy to install, just as your video showed. I read some reviews that said the green wire going to the right tail-light was too short. It wasn't. One has to adhere the box under the left tail-light, and then the wire has an inch or two to spare. It would be hard to send a photo of the wiring, as I did with the hitch review. Good price, short delivery, easy installation. Couldn't be more satisfied. 54613

You cannot just connect your trailer connector wiring to your vehicle wiring like the old days. You need to power the connection. Everything you need comes included, except for a couple of tools. I used a few extra zip-strips that I had laying around. The wiring and connectors fit right into place like they should, plenty of wire length so no pinches or tight corners. Connects right up to existing vehicle wiring. It would be easy to run the wire to the battery if the vehicle was on a lift, but even from the ground it was not difficult - not even a reason to swear. ;-) 473316

I found it easy to install behind the tail lites. Three problems though... 1. The green wire that goes to the passenger side tail light was about 4 inches too short. No matter how i tried to route the wire it was just too short. I soldered a 6" jumper in there and the problem was solved. 2. Running the black wire (it should be red by the way) to the positive (+) terminal of the battery was a real pain in the ass. Figure out a way to tap in to 12 volts another way please. 3. There was about 10 zip ties in the bag. I used all of them and about 25 more of my own. I am glad i had a bunch in my shop. The end result was it worked the first time. 166518

Installation of this wasn't too bad. The instructions are pretty good and there are some decent diagrams. However, I've got say that I was surprised and disappointed that I had to run a line from the tail light all the way to the front of the vehicle directly to the battery. I've done of these before on an older model Grand Caravan and it was all installed in the rear. However, it seems like all of the wiring kits for this model are like this, so I assume there's a good reason for it. Anyway, I've got two bits to offer. First, I don't believe that it's good practice to have a single wire exposed to the elements, like the road, debris, heat, etc. Because of this, I bought some of the split plastic loom stuff that's very common. I used 1/4" split corrugated tubing, part # 7840K81 from McMaster-Carr. It's currently $1.94 for a 5' length, so it's pretty cheap. I bought (4) 5' lengths and used it all. FYI, I already had the line run and put the tubing on after. If you do it right, it's not bad to do, but obviously you'll have to cut any zip ties if you already did that. Second, I didn't run the harness between the tail lights on the outside, I ran it on the inside. If you feel around in the driver's side tail light cavity with one hand and the inside of the jack cavity from the back, you'll feel a "bulkhead" kind of a barrier part that you can push out. Then you can run the harness on the inside. The black plastic piece that runs on the top of the door jam (above the bumper) just pops out, as do the clips that hold the fabric down. Run your harness under that fabric. Pull the panel aside a bit on the passenger side and look for the same "barrier" part in the tail light cavity and run your connector through that way. I *don't* have a lot of interior experience in cars and I thought this was pretty easy. Good luck..... 82097

Product installs as shown on etrailer videos. I tried the video for a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan first but found the install video for the 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan more helpful due to the detail on running the power wire to the battery. It is a time consuming job. Took me several hours. Had to loosen the bolts on the hitch receiver in order to run power wire behind the slanted receiver bracket on the drivers side. The bracket is very close to the gas tank and loosing allowed me to pull the wire through. In the end it was a clean install with a well secured power wire and the unit works perfectly. 489020

The hardest part about the whole thing is if you don't have a lift you have to crawl under the vehicle to run the power wire to the battery. I was able to pull it up on some ramps to help. Still was so simple and has been working great! 724459

I made a mistake on my original order and got a harness that would not fit the connections for our van. Again, my mistake. I received great phone support from Natalie who helped correct my error and get the correct harness sent out in a timely fashion. As far as the actual product: This is the second wiring harness I've purchased and both have been quality products and installed as expected (simple). I would 100% recommend both the product and working with etrailer to others. Very pleased with the experience. 713430

2015 Chrysler Town and Country

Item was shipped right away and was received in 2 days. I installed it in a 2015 Chrysler Town & Country. I do not want to the plug out in the environment when not in use, so it is mounted in the tire jack well. On both sides of the vehicle, with the tail light assemblies removed, there is access to the inside space through a vent and removable foam rectangle. The right side plug (the green wire) did not fit through the vent, so I cut the green wire, which made fishing under the rear carpet from left to right side easy. The rear plastic panel along the rug edge is easily removed by prying up with a plastic trim tool. The connectors plug in perfectly. However, remember that the plug is removed by prying out the plastic locking piece and squeezing the tab under that. I lifted up and snapped the tab off on the right side. I was still able to reinsert the tab and locking piece on the original vehicle plug. The locking piece is not necessary on the new plug. I used dielectric grease on all plugins. I am not a fan of crimped connectors, so all the splicing is soldered with self sealing heat shrink tubing over the connections. The controller module is mounted on the sloped edge at the bottom of the left light assembly opening using the supplied adhesive strip. I used glass cleaner and alcohol to ensure a clean spot. I attached the white wire lug using the supplied screw by screwing it through the module screw hole. This helped keep the self tapping screw from moving around and adds support for the module. I squirted a liberal amount of dielectric grease into the screw hole in hopes of minimizing corrosion. I ran the power cord under the vehicle as described in the videos. I used the supplied lug for the power cord and crimped it. Located next to the battery, it is easily replaced if corroded. I had 4 zip ties left over as well as the single long one. I did not cut off excess wire, but coiled and zip-tied the coils out of the way. Because of the comments of not enough green wire, I ran all the wires prior to plugging in the connectors and mounting the module. There was plenty of green wire, with about 9 inches extra under the right side trim. Had over a foot of black power cord left and coiled that with the yellow fuse wire next to the battery. Total time was about 2 hours to install the wiring and plugs in the rear, including removal and reinstallation of light assemblies and trim pieces. Running the power cord to the battery and installing was another hour and a half, including cleanup, testing and putting tools away. Best of all, everything works on the vehicle and tow plug! Have not used it yet with a trailer. 699605

2019 Dodge Grand Caravan

Purchased hitch, wiring package and J-pin for 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan. All parts came in on time and in good condition. Last time I did a hitch was 10 years ago so was kind of starting from scratch again. Hitch is heavy & clumsy for one person but managed to balance on a scissors jack, with "shims", and maneuver into position. Directions were clear but I removed the two rear exhaust hangers instead of just one to get better access, and I pulled the left rear tire off. Fit like a glove. Wiring pkg. easier to install than my prior one (less splicing) although I had to fiddle with the OEM plug a bit to figure out how to unlatch it. Had a little red piece of plastic, maybe a lock?, that had to be pushed back or removed to be able to squeeze and unlatch the plugs. Did not run the power wire to the battery. Have a 12 v. outlet on a rear door post and used my prior male plug-in to feed the trailer lights. Over-all went faster/easier than I expected. Have not tried the J-pin yet so don't know if it will quiet the hitch racket/noise as advertised, 688222

This is the 3rd or 4th time I have purchased a hitch and wiring from etrailer. I have never been disappointed by this company! Yesterday I installed the hitch and wiring on my 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan GT. The hitch took a few more minutes than anticipated, only because the exhaust system resonator was in the way, more than expected. A minor delay. Running the power wire to the battery always takes the most amount of time, if you do not have a lift. I just move slowly and tie-wrap it in several places so I know it will remain out of the way. 668764

For example: - 1 to 2 Persons & Luggage = 3,600 lbs Towing Capacity - 3 to 5 Persons & Luggage = 3,350 lbs Towing Capacity - 6 to 7 Persons & Luggage = 3,000 lbs Towing Capacity Also, for vehicles equipped with "Fold-in-Floor"...

  • Why Does 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan Require Powered Converter Type 4-Pole Trailer Wiring Harness
  • The taillights in your 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan are the highly-efficient LED type that need very little power to operate brightly (a good thing). For this reason the OEM vehicle wiring that brings power to those lights can be very light in gauge which saves both cost and weight since copper is both fairly costly and fairly heavy.
