Curt T-Connector 56407 - Can The 4-Flat Plug Be Routed Inside The Vehicle And Stored In The Trunk?
Updated 08/05/2026 | Published 07/28/2026 >
Question:
Is it possible to route the 4-flat connector into the inside of the vehicle and run it out of the rear door when needed? Not used much and lots of salt in winter.

Hey Jon, thanks for reaching out. Yes, with the Curt T-Connector # 56407 on a 2026 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited the 4-flat plug is stored in the trunk when not in use. Then you can just route the plug out the trunk when you need it, and store it in and out of the way location in the trunk when not in use. This is how it's intended to be installed, and the instructions go over exactly how to do this.
What kind of trailer will you be towing?

Jesse, Thanks for the reply. Good to know it can be stored in the trunk area. The video I watched showed it being attached to the receiver on a bracket. We will be towing a utility trailer on occasion. This hitch is a backup to our truck. Jon

The rubber cap on it is a pretty darned snug fit, so I wouldn't worry too much about it even with the salt. once it's routed to the hitch area, it would be a pain to disconnect and pull it back to the inside of the vehicle. But then again, all would be the same. Tip: If your Jeep has the 12VDC outlet on the drivers side in the back, that's a good source for power instead of running a wire all the way to under the hood. If it's set to power even when the key is off, just move the fuse to make it switched (search internet for how to do this).
