BoatBuckle's second-generation bow tie-down strap bolts to the frame of your trailer and simplifies the securing and unloading of your boat. It is designed to keep constant tension on the strap and requires minimal ratcheting to secure your load. Instead of always having to find and store a tie-down strap that hooks to the tie-down anchors on the front of your boat, you will find that BoatBuckle's bow strap is always right where you need it. Just pull up on the hook and strap, attach the hook to the bow, and then operate the ratchet several times. No more dealing with extra webbing or looking for the tie-down strap. And when unloading, simply push the release button on the ratchet, free the hook from the bow, and let the strap retract back down into the ratchet.

Installation

This strap comes with the mounting hardware that you'll need to install it. It is recommended that you use anti-seize (LT37616 - sold separately) to ensure that the nut is properly tightened down over the bolt. You can use the included bolt to mount the ratchet directly to the trailer frame or crossmember. If you need to angle the ratchet strap or move it a little farther off the frame, a universal mounting kit (IMF14254 - sold separately) is available.

Note: A bow tie-down should always be used along with a winch strap and a set of transom or gunwale tie-downs. All straps and cables should be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). To determine the maximum load, or break strength, of the strap, simply multiply the WLL by 3. The WLL is always one-third (1/3) of the maximum load.

The best investment I have made in my boat trailer. So much easier than the old tie down straps.

Was looking to replace (1) BoatBuckle for my Ranger Boat Cover that I lost. Ranger had them for $99.80 for two and wouldn't sell just one. Order this item which is an exact duplicate from what was on my Ranger (minus the "Ranger" sticker). I can live without the Ranger name for the money I saved. Thanks etrailer.

Towing my 25 boat up and down the west coast multiple times this year, the Boat Buckle is working flawlessly. I am very pleased with the product quality and ease of operation.

It is so nice to have the straps on the trailer, instead of storing the straps on the boat or RV and then remembering where you put them.

Still working as good as the first time I used it!

by:

Easy to install--attached to an existing bolt for the spare tire holder. Easy to use and works great to hold down the bow of a 16' skiff. I sprayed all metal parts I could reach with CRC Heavy Duty Corrosion Inhibitor. Will be interested to see how long the tiedown holds up in a saltwater environment. Only a couple of weeks old at this point.

Still works great. I am pleasantly surprisedno sign of rust. Dont know why I gave it only 4 stars. No problems whatsoever.

by:

This appears to be a quality product. I installed the bow tie-down and a pair of BoatBuckle stern tie-downs on my 26' center console and new trailer. Installation is simple and connecting/disconnecting the tie-downs takes seconds. I anticipate a long service life and will be washing them with one of the salt-dissolving washes, along with the trailer brakes, to help assure that.

Still love the Boat Buckles. They make loading and unloading easier and faster, a big plus at todays crowded boat ramps.

by:

This is not a very intuitive design, very limited option to attach to trailer, live and learn, just hope to do it as inexpensively as possible. Very tight , small, difficult area to access to attach, needs a much more user friendly design, not a good fit at all. Great idea, needs major overhaul and re-engineering on trailer attachment point design. Not able to use as intended.

This doesn't sound like the best experience Michael. There is a 1 year limited warranty on this. I'll make sure the right information is sent to you.

by:

Works great! Used as a secondary bow strap while trailering.

by:

Excellent product. Mounted it and was very secure. Have not used the boat until June, 2026 then I will see how it does. Representative was also very helpful!

by:

Love the boat buckles, put this on my Triton bow tie down...works great! Very fast shipping and great service from Etrailer as always!

by:

Quality product competitive pricing reasonable shipping I firmly believe I will not have to worry about this component for a lifetime of trailer ownership

by:

It came a day late, and it was actually broken out of the package. It should’ve been held into, but it was still functional.

by:

Equipment was in original packing with all components and instructions. Easy install. I could have made a DIY strap to hold down the bow as a third safety belt. The boat buckle is more secure and easily operated by one person. I will look to etrailer.com first for future trailer and accessories in the future.

by:

The bow buckle its self is really good. Just like the boat buckle transom straps that came on the boat new.

The only issue that I had was the nut that came with the bolt for installation was the wrong nut. I had to use a nut, bolt and loctite that I had laying around.

Etrailer shipped the product super fast.

by:

We recently installed a set of boat buckles and I have to tell you they are everything they claim to be and more. Installation was easy, and in use, they are the fastest, easiest way to secure our boat that I have ever seen. I would definitely recommend them. Thank you so much for a great product. Here are a couple of pictures.

  • How to Choose the Correct Tie-Down for a Boat and Trailer
When choosing tie-down straps like the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable Tie-Down Strap, # IMF14220, you will want to keep a few things in mind. Boat tie-downs are designed for normal highway driving. The purpose of most boat tie-downs is to strap the lightest object to the heaviest object, meaning you will want to choose a tie-down with a break strength that exceeds the weight of the lightest object. For example, if your boat weighs 4,000 lbs and your trailer weighs 2,000 lbs, you will want to...

  • How To Select Best Ratchet Straps For Securing 1,500 lb Boat And Trailer
Hello Chris, thanks for reaching out. For ratchet straps you want the WLL to be equal to or greater than the weight of your boat. We do not use the break strength when selecting straps. So the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Bow Tie-Down Strap # IMF14220 has a 833 lb WLL and might be more suited for you depending on the weight of your boat. Do you know approximately how much your boat weighs? Let me know.

  • How To Choose the Correct BoatBuckle G2 Retractable Ratcheting Tie-Downs
In order to secure your 1994 Regal Ventrua 6.8 with the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable Ratcheting Tie-Down Straps you will need to use one tie down at the bow and two tie downs at the transom. For this you will need both part # IMF14220 and part # IMF08893. This will give you a break strength rating of 7,500 lbs (2,500 lbs per tie down) therefore will be sufficient. We also have the Mounting Brackets part # IMF14254 if the tie down points on the trailer are not where you need them to be. I...

So for example, you could use the 833 lb BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Bow Tie-Down Strap # IMF14220, the 833 lb BoatBuckle Heavy Duty Ratchet Transom Tie-Down Straps # IMF14207, and two of the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Gunwale Tie-Down Straps # IMF14221. This has a break strength of 2,500 lbs but a safe working load limit of 833 lbs. You want to stay in the working load limit of the strap and not the break strength because that is the worst case scenario not the ideal. • Transom Strap Recommendation for Boat Trailer Carrying 10,000 lb Boat
What's really interesting about boat straps like the # IMF14220 is that while they do secure the boat, which in your case is pretty heavy, the amount of weight capacity needed is really the weight of the trailer since basically you need the strap to keep the boat connected to the trailer in an emergency. This strap kit would be what I recommend for you. It has a break strength of 2,500 lbs per strap which would be more than enough for the weight of your trailer.

Transom tie downs # IMF14256 have a break strength of 1,500 pounds and working load limit of 500 pounds. What this means is that it can have up to 500 pounds on it constantly and be fine. It is not really supporting the whole boat weight and you are likely using other tie downs, a winch cable, and so on so the transom tie downs will be adequate.
