Updated 01/19/2026 | Published 07/30/2024

Question:

Looking for retractable type transom straps for a 27’ bowrider we are purchasing used. Boat’s dry weight is 5,300, so with fuel, water, etc. probably weighs at least 6,000. The steel tandem axle trailer weighs about 1,400, so could you recommend some for me please?

Hi Matt,

The heaviest-duty retractable transom straps are the 833 lb working load limit BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Transom Tie-Down Straps # IMF08893.

Keep in mind you'll also need at least one of the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Bow Tie-Down Strap # IMF14220 and a couple of the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Gunwale Tie-Down Straps # IMF14221.

These also have an 833 lb WLL per strap; I also highly recommend using Loctite Anti-Seize Stick # LT37616 for the bolts when installing these straps.

Hey Matt, how did the BoatBuckle G2 retractable straps work out for securing your bowrider and trailer? Your results could really help others looking for a strong tie-down setup for a similar boat size.
