The Tuson DirecLink Base Model Trailer Brake Controller reads your vehicle’s computer directly through the OBD-II port to match trailer braking precisely to your driving. This gives a true proportional response—no delay, no harsh jerk—just smooth stops that feel natural. It applies the right amount of power to trailers with up to 4 axles (8 brake assemblies) and works with both electric and electric-over-hydraulic brakes. Whether slowing gently in traffic or braking hard on the highway, your trailer stays steady and in sync.
Every trailer and load feels different on the road. The DirecLink gives you 40 levels of brake scale to dial in exactly how much power you want. Use lighter settings for smaller or empty trailers, and ramp it up for heavy ones over 10,000 lbs. You can even add a separate low-speed brake adjustment that takes over below 30 mph for smoother braking through town. Once set, everything runs automatically, keeping your stops balanced at any speed.
When sitting at a red light or on a steep grade, full brake power can wear down your trailer brakes fast. The DirecLink solves that with a stop-brake feature that holds between 5% and 30% of the brake scale whenever you’re stopped. It keeps your setup planted without cooking the brakes so they’re ready when you roll again.
The handheld remote puts all control and information right in your hand. The color LCD screen shows real-time data like trailer connection status, battery voltage, OBD-II link integrity, and brake controller output. For certain vehicles, it even reads engine RPM and transmission temperature. You can make quick adjustments using simple up/down buttons or squeeze the spring-loaded trigger to manually apply the trailer brakes whenever you need extra control.
No drilling or bulky boxes under the dash—just plug into your OBD-II port and connect the included harness. The main unit mounts out of sight in any orientation, and the compact remote mounts flush or on a swivel pad using adhesive. Once connected, it automatically syncs to your vehicle’s system for fast setup and dependable braking every time you hitch up.

It wont work if you need to hook up another thing on the OBD2 port.

The brake controler itself works great... I had only 1 problem... I was told to wire it direct to the batteries and not to try to connect to the ignition switch... I found later when not in use and my truck parked it was draining my batteries.... So I put a switch in it.. Other than that its a good system...

This product is excellent for the Simi Truck conversion. It works seamlessly with the Jackalopee as the interface to my Fifth Wheel.

Complicated to install - used mechanics shop for install - had the wrong OBD interface cable initially, delayed / complicated further.

Bought a direct link brake controller and 9 pin for my semi hdt. Clearly the brake controller is used. It’s scuffed and scratched to death. No packaging. Just loosely Theon in a box. Looks like someone used a screwdriver to disconnect one of thr ports. $[XX] for used parts? Pathetic. I’ll never buy from this co again. If I didn’t need it for my trip in 3 days I’d send it back and get a refund. I’m beyond mad.
Have a 6 year old unit in my 2001 7.3. Kept Old Red and bought a new truck. Tired of factory brake failures and underperformance. Replaced with DirecLink. The low speed braking and holding brakes are available nowhere else. Awesome Tech Support.

Great controller and easy to use. The hand held feature makes this tremendously easier to utilize especially through the mountain passes along with being less obtrusive when not in use as you can just disconnect the controller and put it in your storage compartment.

Make sure you read into it further to make sure you are buying all the parts needed to make it work. Will need to add another Tuson Heavy Duty Truck Module Kit for DirecLink Brake Controller - 16 Pin 335HDCON-16PIN to make it work on HD Trucks.
Works flawless on my 2022 Western Star HDT. Towing a very heavy 22k lb RV and everything else I own means I dont take short cuts. This product is the top standard for break controllers.
I installed this in a 2018 Volvo Vnl 730 so i could pull a 5th wheel camper. Directions were straightforward and was an easy install.
