Review of Tuson RV Brakes Brake Controller 335DL-100

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the Tuson DirecLink trailer brake controller. Now this brake controller is designed to activate your trailer brakes in proportion to your vehicle's braking action. So, it automatically adjusts the braking on real time, based on real time data, which is provided by your tow vehicle's computer network. This unit actually plugs into the OBD-II port on your vehicle, and feeds or receives information from your vehicle's computer system. It activates immediately, so there's no pausing like when using time delayed brake controllers. The unit features automatic leveling ability.

That means that the module, this box here, can be mounted in any orientation without affecting the operation. This allows you to mount the unit completely out of the way under the dash of your vehicle, or in a location that works best for you. It offers 20 braking levels, so that lets you adjust the initial braking power and aggressiveness. Also it has a large display. Now, a lot of the times the displays are tied into the control box, but on this one, it's separate because the control box is low profile. It can be under the dash, hidden out of the way completely.

Then you have your control, or your command, module. The colored display acts as a diagnostic tool for your dowable braking system. So this allows you to receive information and see what is going on with the control module. This is a user-friendly design. It has a large color display.

It's very easy to read. You've got the easy pushbutton navigation buttons there, as well as the home button. The diagnostics include trailer connection, tow vehicle battery voltage, OBD-II network connection, brake controller ground and power connections, brake switch voltage, blue wire power output, and engine rpm.The spring loaded manual override lever allows you to manually apply zero to 100% of your trailer's brakes at any time. It's an easy plug and play installation. You can use a custom vehicle wiring harness if your vehicle is equipped with that connection point.

If not, you can use the included wiring harness to hard wire into your vehicle's wiring. And then this harness right here plugs into the OBD-II connection point on your vehicle. The command module connects to the control module with the included spiral cables, so it just has like the telephone style connection on there. Plugs in, that's all there is to it. Plug it into one of the three ports here on the control module. This unit is designed to automatically configure to your towed vehicle and trailer brake system. It uses very smart technology. No drilling required. It comes with a flush dash mount, and a swivel dash mount, for mounting the command modules. So, this bracket right here slides into the connection on the back, and then it has adhesive backing on the bottom that we can easily peel, and stick it to a nice clean surface. Once you have the angle set, you just tighten up the knob to lock everything in place. That's really all there is to it. Nice, easy to use design. It comes with cable ties to secure the control module up and out of the way. This is designed for trailers with up to six axles, or 12 brake assemblies, and it is designed for use with electric, or electric over hydraulic trailer brakes. Last thing I want to mention is the dimensions right here of this box. It measures about 6 1/4" long x 3" wide x about 1 1/8" thick, or tall. That's going to do it for today's look at the Tuson DirecLink trailer brake controller.
