Can Tuson DirecLink Brake Controller 335DL-100 Install on 2016 Volvo VNL780

Question:

2016 vnl780, does it require a special adapter for any portion of the installation? Does the factory wiring in the Volvo harness include electric brake capability?

I don't believe a 2016 Volvo VNL780 has electric brake wiring since they are setup for the air brakes of a semi truck trailer but the Tuson DirecLink Base Model Trailer Brake Controller # 335DL-100 can still be used as long as it has a 12 volt electrical system. You'd just need to hardwire the controller to the truck using it's included universal wiring harness.

The white wire goes to ground, black to 12 volt power, red to a stoplight circuit (typically at the brake pedal switch), and blue to the trailer wiring connector circuit for the brake output circuit.

I asked a question about installing the electric brake controller in my vnl Volvo. A more direct question would be: is there a wire harness connector that plugs into the diagnostic port such as ob2 to pick-up progressive braking signals?

@RandyH It doesn't look like your VNL780 has an OBD2 port and instead has a 9 pin J1939 which this specific controller does not have ability to connect to.

@RandyH We don't have anything that can connect to the computer of your vehicle to detect the brake output so best option would be a brake controller like the P2 part # 90885 which has an internal inertia sensor that can detect how hard to apply the trailer brakes.
